  1. I feel left out! :-( If my wife hadn't lost her job, I'd have been there this year.
  2. Gee, I thought the magical, revolutionary, super-camera on the iPhone 4 would be all the camera anyone ever needs... Hahaha...all kidding aside, I know a pair of semi-professional photographers, and they both recommend Canon. They told me that Nikon makes a great camera, but, with Canon, you get the same level of photographic quality with a higher level of reliability. Basically, they were of the opinion that Nikons are a little delicate and described Canons as tanks... That being said, I was talking to them about this last year when thinking of buying a Rebel XTi...I went with a point and shoot for the time being (Canon G9), which I love. I needed something that would also take decent video, and DSLRs didn't do that at the time (though some do now). Just my two-cents...hope it's useful...I know the Apple-quips always are!
  3. I still don't really see a need for a tablet, but this one has some pretty awesome specs and is coming out of nowhere: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/icds-tegra-2-powered-gemini-is-the-most-feature-complete-tablet/ If I did suddenly have a need for a tablet, I think this beast would be it--at least for now, but I have no idea when its releasing. Just figured some of you guys might be interested in it.

  5. SJ, you're cute: PC MAG http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/07/apple-claims-iphone-signal-loss-is-software-mirage/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wired%2Findex+%28Wired%3A+Index+3+%28Top+Stories+2%29%29&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/06/putting-hard-numbers-to-the-iphone-4-antenna-issue.ars http://fscked.co.uk/post/751030001/more-on-the-iphone-4-signal-issue And those are the first 4 I found in a few minutes--Wired and PC Magazine are both respected tech magazines. Every human being has a unique electrical field, just because yours may not affect the phone as much as someone else's, it is an extremely common problem, and people are doing lab-tests to prove it. Apple, just like MS, Google, and every other tech company in the world CAN screw up from time to time--it's OK to admit it.
  6. I was trying really, really hard to resist posting anything about all of the negative press Apple has recently been receiving over its antenna on the new iPhone 4. I didn't want SJ to tear up in anger--however, this Hitler video was just too funny not to post. (not to mention accurate) Seriously, shield your antenna.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h3Ogt2L44Q&feature=player_embedded
  7. Words can not do this justice...just go look (and read their description) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-Built-Motorcycles-Pro-Street-%20%20LightCycle-Tron-Lightcycle-Light-Cycle-Bike-Full-Size-Running%20-/220627957724#v4-39
  8. Have you played the most recent iteration?
  9. http://cspromod.com/ Apparently there's an HL2 mod that calls itself Counter-Strike Pro and attempts to combine the best from 1.6 and Source into one. Anyone tried it? I admit, I'm slightly curious . . . If they fixed certain things like grenade damage . . .
  10. robots scare SJ . . .

  11. I've noticed with non-HD signals during dark scenes there is some ghosting...however, when I plug my computer into it, I'm consistently impressed with the clarity of picture. I haven't done much gaming on it though, and I don't know if the ghosting issue is present when playing a game with a dark setting--I will plug it in tonight and find out for you before you buy, however.
  12. Duke Nukem Forever And now I'm sad...I miss the Duke
  13. <===sums up my feelings on the above video.

  15. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/28474/Interview_CounterStrike_CoCreator_Minhs_Tactical_Intervention.php This is interesting--it's too bad he's using a (now) dated engine like source, but the game looks like a LOT of fun...what do you guys think? There's a game-play video on the official website here: http://www.tactical-intervention.com/
  16. In my tin-roofed building I get 1018 kbps down and 491 kbps up....the data signal in here is weak compared to what I get down the street outside. The fastest I've ever downloaded a file on the 3G network here (on my Moto Droid), is around 136 kb/sec, which is pretty fast for a phone, though I don't feel like calculating what megabit connection that is . . . lol
  17. Then you have to pay the $10 "I have an EVO" fee. It's to get on their 4G network. I agree with you though, the data prices for ALL of the carriers in the US are ridiculous.
  18. I would definitely replace the mobo and the PSU...I've seen at least 3 cases where the PSU cooked the mobo in some way or another. (once was lightning-induced power surge)
  19. http://www.pcworld.com/article/198496/motorola_droid_plus_free_bluetooth_headset.html That's a pretty good deal. The Moto Droid is screaming fast with the new Android OS (2.2) which isn't officially released, but may have found its way onto my phone...
  20. A good deal of those negatives go away with 2.2 (I'm running it on my Moto Droid right now). My droid now benchmarks right up there with the fastest stock droids (with Froyo alone, it's right below the upcoming Shadow running 2.1). I have also installed an on-demand overclocking app that works very well (still get great battery life as it clocks down to 250 mHz when idle), and with that, I get a hair below the Nexus One (still the fastest stock phone out there) running 2.2. I can get it to go faster if I want, but I don't NEED it. 2.2 also has built in tethering--I've used it, it works. Root your phone and you can have that option without 2.2 (I was using Barnacle previously). As far as games are concerned...SNES and NES! Hahaha...I agree though, a lot of the Android-specific games do suck, but they haven't been developing nearly as long as the iPhone OS games. Over-all, I like the iPhone's GUI, I like the feature set, but it comes down to being ridiculously restrictive--which Apple claims it needs to ensure a good end-user experience. I dunno, my wife, who had a lot of trouble easily using the Blackberry OS, and is not nearly as technologically inclined as I am, loves her Droid. She finds it easy to use--which is saying something. If the iPhone had expandable memory, wasn't on AT&T, and didn't keep coming out with features that other phones already have and call them "revolutionary" (that's just annoying)--I would recommend it to people. IT does look good, and the interface is also good. I just like my Droid better. Ahh...SJ, doesn't arguing about OSes bring back fond memories? ZD, if you want to know where to get 2.2 (Froyo), let me know.
  21. The Windows Phone 7 GUI is awesome--SJ is going to love this--but it's very similar to the Zune in its layout (the Zune HD that is), which I absolutely love. If you look at the interface, it is awesome. Personally, I think the Windows is a better platform for tablets, because they're planning on using essentially the netbook version of Windows 7 with some GUI tweaks. That means that you can put things like Office and other Windows programs on there which is slick. Now, if they change that, I'm going to have high hopes for Android. I prefer my Android phone to the iPhone for the following reasons: 1.) no iTunes...I'm with Clue on that..iTunes is HORRIBLE (which is odd, because the GUI on the iPhone/iPod touch is pretty slick) 2.) I can change my battery 3.) I can root my phone and it doesn't void the warranty, nor does it go against the user agreement (that I know of)--heck, I even have my Droid overclocked with WiFi hotspot capability 4.) AT&T 5.) SNES/NES Emulators :-) 6.) The ridiculous reasons Apple gives for turning down apps (journalists with sarcastic cartoons can't get on, despite having clean language/gui/pictures?) 7.) I have Flash on my phone The list is longer, but hey, I also agree with Clue, the GUI on the iPhone is fairly similar to Android--minus the notification bar that I really like. Now, versions before 2.1 weren't so hot, but 2.1 was very good and 2.2 (Froyo) is REALLY good (that's what I'm running on my Droid). SJ, even you have to admit there is a lot more freedom on the Android OS--though that can be a bad thing if you aren't careful with what you download, I agree (if the market says 1 star, don't download it--it's not rocket science).
  22. It runs the Zune software, that must be it . . . Seriously, that's the weirdest thing I've seen today...lol PS: ZD, that Adam tablet looks slick, I agree
