  1. GOG.com is giving away Mount and Blade for free for the next 48 hours; should be displayed on their main page: https://www.gog.com/.

Also, if you scroll a little further underneath the Mount and Blade giveaway banner, there should be another banner where you click on a "stamp." If you click on all 7 in the next few days, they claim to be giving away Witcher 2 and a movie.

You need to create an account first, of course, for all of this.

On a side note, HumbleBundle.com seems to have started occasionally giving away free games in the past few months too. Might want to keep an eye on them for free games (and cheap bundles).

EDIT: Forgot to mention that these are most likely DRM-free, meaning they won't activate on Steam. At least, that's been GOG's modus operandi.

  2. Most of us play Competitive Match Making (CMM). One of the things that makes it quiet disturbing and we cannot avoid is cheaters/hackers.

I have an idea of how to decrease number of hackers in CMM. Overwatch is a nice feature and it does help a lot, but it seems doesn't stop a cheating/hacking person from buying a new account and do it again. What if we send a letter to VALVe with a proposal:

    to: VALVe, CS:GO team,

We are the people of the CS:GO community hereby propose to make a new update to the game, which will lock Competitive Match Making for users with new CS:GO accounts to play, until they reach certain amount of hours (120-200 hours) on Casual/ArmRace/Deathmatch/Demolition/Public servers. If a person is new to CS:GO, this will be a good practice time. Thus this feature will prevent most of the amateur cheaters/hackers to get a new game after getting banned. Also, an actual ban will regain its meaning.

As you already understand, this is just the idea. I need you to edit, polish, revise it and add your own thoughts and ideas. With your help we can improve CS:GO CMM.

P.S. I know my grammar suckz.

I revised but did not add anything.

  3. Looking at the character list, why is Magneto a villain and Cyclops a hero? Cyclops is more Magneto than Magneto. Sucks that I can't play as Dr. Doom or Magneto I guess I'll try Nova when the game is out :D

"Recent" Cyclops is more like traditional Magneto, but I'm guessing developers stuck with the traditional Cyclops characterization to avoid confusing general audiences (people who watched the films).

I played both open beta weekends and completed all 8 chapters, minus a few, non-vital missions in Chapter 8. Played as Hulk, Punisher, Spiderman, Iron Man, Deadpool, Daredevil, Black Widow, Captain America, and Colossus to varying levels.

This is the most balanced criticism I've heard about the game so far:

My personal requests: make the difficulty harder, create action set pieces that are more diverse in terms of mechanics, experiment with level design, etc. There were a couple other problems I saw during beta, but they've either been addressed in interviews or I'm assuming they're being taken care of (i.e. bugs).

The good news is they're still modifying the game from what I've seen in closed beta videos. Whether or not it will be polished enough by launch is anyone's guess.

  4. Some enemies have melee animations that will kill you in one hit. When I say kill I mean kill, not being incapacitated. I believe these are limited too the Phantom, Banshee, and Praetorian. Be careful when resurrecting people near these enemies, you or them may be killed, especially near Phantoms.

The instakill (sync kill) doesn't work on the player if they are using the Geth Juggernaut character. Juggernaut can be slightly staggered by enemies like the Praetorian, but no instant kill animation.

Also, the character is hilarious to play.

Unlocked him yesterday. He's pretty awesome.

Did you go hex shield or turret?

    My current build: http://narida.pytalhost.com/me3/classes/#Soldier/GethJuggernaut/PPANP//////

I use Juggernaut Shield IV for gear, so it's 17% shields and 10% melee.

I generally play Silver, so I went with hex shield. (Funny story: I dropped down a large hex shield before disarming the last of the four points. Turned around after I was done and saw 5 Guardians bouncing backwards, unable to pass through; now they know what it feels like.) I've heard players use geth turret on Gold or Platinum though for the shield restore function.

I'd spec him differently if I was playing on higher (I've played Gold a few times in the past but not with this kit; don't feel like trying Platinum at all), like change the sixth evolution of Siege Pulse to number of shots like everybody else, abandon hex shield for geth turret, etc.

  6. Wasn't he a member once?

Remind me to make the reserves cull list tomorrow - mid-February is long enough for people to get current with dues...

I've never been a member. I just joined the server 5 years ago and didn't leave. :P

Thanks to Shaftiel for taking care of the bans.

  7. I entered season around 11:15PM CST. Upon entering the server, saw an exchange where a guy said he "won't stop TKing until i'm banned."

He left shortly after I arrived. Didn't see the actual TKing, but a mass exodus of players on his team and his statement sort of proved it.

  9. I'll have to look into The Witcher... Xcom didn't thrill me from the trailers and reviews.

I couldn't get into The Witcher for the life of me...I tried playing it like...2-3 times and all I could get past was the intro level. The combat system is terrible and that's what turned me off of the game...although I'm sure the rest of the game was great, just that dang combat system ruined it.

I got to Act 2 in The Witcher before being stopped twice: once by a glitch and a second time probably because I didn't trigger a storyline point despite trying everything. After that, I haven't been back since, but I hear the game becomes phenomenal in Act 4 and 5. I agree that the combat system is strange and requires some micromanaging (switching swords and sword styles for different enemies); I could tolerate it, but it definitely threw me when I first played (timing my mouse clicks because... why?). A positive thing I can say about The Witcher is that the decisions you make in the game are morally complex and interesting (if you don't look at guides or anything like that).

Biggs, I'd suggest Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition if you played and liked Mass Effect as it's more forgiving than The Witcher. Steam has sold it for as low as $7.50; The Witcher for $2.50. Plus, you can mod DA:O to make it look purty, etc.

  10. Adding to the evidence others have gathered:

    I second Jackie's advice: don't buy it.

Fun fact: NYU's Game Center showcased Big Rigs in a public exhibit with the theme, "games that are really bad," back in April 2012. I saw firsthand the infamous "put your rig in reverse and watch the odometer go into the negative" as well as the map glitches seen in Jackie's posted vid. It was one of the worst they had on display next to a ridiculous paintball FPS (which I also got a chance to play; it too was awful).

  11. Tried this out the past 2 days with a Norn Guardian; managed to get to level 16. I participated in one day of the Lost Shores event but was woefully unprepared in terms of gear (and the fact that I hadn't unlocked all the skills/ slots). I ended up missing the last event, but I don't think it would have mattered.

Had fun though; lots of stuff I wanted to try out but didn't get the chance to. Props to Voodoo for hooking me up with a trial key.

  12. Is this guest pass like I get to play the full version until the time is over or is it like a "starter" version.

From what I've read, it's a limited time from Nov. 15-18, so it's more like the former. I'm assuming starter is like "up to level 20" or something; I don't think that's what they're offering.

  13. You can actually get like 20-30 free games by clearing your browser history, and using a different email address. You don't even need a different one, if your email is foo@gmail.com you can do foo+bar@gmail.com and it'll recognize it as new email address even tho it'll strip the + and everything after it. Good thread about it on reddit.com/r/gaming if anyone is interested.

I was tempted to do this, but I ended up just taking one. Someone posted a screenshot of all the new games on their Origin account in the cheap***gamer forum; it's insane what they were able to grab before the coupon expired.

  14. I don't support abortions except in rape/life&death situations. I think it's selfish for women to be given so many options. I don't think we as American's should have to pay for someones abortion. Or provide funding to those that do.

I don't support lame marriage but I do support peoples rights as a couple. I feel the title of marriage is that of a man & a woman, and another title should be placed on it. I don't feel anyone who is in a relationship with another person should be denied the right to share benefits, adopt children, or be able to support them in times of being in a hospital and denied because they aren't what a government calls "family". I don't think family is defined as man woman and child. I think family is 2 or more people who love each other unconditionally even when they fall.

I don't think we should fund PBS. I agreed with this statement. Because I believe they are so strong and powerful in peoples eyes, that people will continue to fund and support them, even if the government takes it away. Many companies survive without the government handing them money, because people see the good and the value in them and they rally behind it and support it, because that's what we have done in the past and will continue to do as a nation.

I don't think places like Chick-fil-A should be judged because they didn't give money to lame groups and don't support lame marriage. If they were a company that didn't hire gays or blacks, or people with disabilities then we would have an issue. It is a companies right to decide where their money goes in way of charities and what they do and don't support, so long as it isn't hate groups or out of this world insane. I lost a lot of respect when they backed down and I lost a lot of respect for the lame community. Just because someone doesn't support lame marriage doesn't mean they hate gays. I don't support it and I still love my lame friends. I respect them and their opinions as I would hope they would mine.

There is too much welfare in this nation. I won't sit here and apologize for this statement. There are people who need it and use it right, but the excess of it makes it easy for people to manipulate the system. I have worked over the years for a few foreigners, who have come to America to open a business and they do well. For people to say there is no way up, there is no way to not be poor or struggling, I think is a cop out. I think its easier to be lazy than work hard to be successful. Trust me I know there are people who work their butts off to put food on the table work those 40+hours a week. But sometimes we have to step back and look at their path in life. Choices we make to put us in this grind. As a single individual you pay rent, bills, get out of debt if you have any. But if you do have debt how did you get there, society doesn't put you in debt, the government doesn't put you in debt, then you get married, and you have debt, and you continue and you struggle and then you bring a child into this world, and the grind goes on. Bills never go away, you always going to have a light bill, water bill, trash bill. When we allow ourselves to make decisions that add to our bills, that add to our debt and then get angry and blame the government and blame society I think there's a problem. Prices will continue to grow, that's a fact of life, we have listen to our grandparents who my grandpa said he made like 2.00 an hour and then some guys today quit because they were only making 12.00 an hour. I don't doubt it can be hard. That is a fact. But to blame government for your struggling look at your past spending habits. Your past decisions. I won't bring a child into this world right now, I can't afford it, and then my husband and I's life would just be a grind. When you make decisions to get credit cards, to buy beyond your means, to live beyond your means you have no one to blame. It has to stop. Then you wonder why taxes are so high. Cause instead of doing well and feeding yourself and your family you have to help feed others. I don't doubt we make mistakes, but if we can't learn from them there is no where to go but down.

I find it so funny that politics are like the Olympics. In 2009, 2010, 2011 the world was quiet, maybe the occasional activist would post, but really no one said anything. And then bam 2012, and here comes the Olympic news and political post. And just a few weeks before the Olympics it was every where, people wanted to know, they watched, they talked, after it was over a few more post and it was gone. Political running for president began and the flood gate opened. Then after the election a few post will be made, and until 2016 no one will care. If you really gave a damn you would of said a lot more over the last four year instead of waiting until just now, why do you care now? and not in the last 3 years. This goes for an against Obama supporters.

    1. I understand the position on abortion funding you outlined even though I don't share the same objections. I've read about the opt-out clause regarding abortion coverage under Obama's healthcare plan, the Hyde Amendment, etc., so I see the cause for concern. There's been a lot of talk surrounding federal funding and individual surcharges; It remains to be seen what individual states will do in 2014.

The abortion issue is pretty divisive, but I think there are related issues that can be agreed upon like better sex/ health education and access to contraceptives (although some viewpoints equate the morning after pill with abortion; I disagree). Abstinence only education isn't helpful (abstinence plus is the bare minimum in my opinion; could always include more information in that program), and the more protection people have at their disposal (i.e. condoms/ pills/ etc.), the less likely a woman is to have an unintended pregnancy. Not impossible, but less likely. Hence, less need for abortions.

(I'm not sure what you mean by "it's selfish for women to be given so many options" though; I'm assuming that you're referring to options as the number of contexts under which an abortion can be performed, but I'm not entirely certain.)

    2. I think it's cool that you support equal rights and privileges of couples regardless of orientation; we have that in common.

    3. I did some research on PBS and the CPB two years ago for a paper that chronicled its first five years or so. Long story short, the funding of PBS was a known and prominent issue from the very start. Johnson promised a long-term plan for funding but got sidetracked by the Vietnam War (among other things) as it became the main focus of the rest of his presidency. Nixon failed to come up with a plan as well but did so on purpose: he reportedly hated PBS and the CPB and wanted them to fail (and actively tried to facilitate their demise).

If government funding is cut, several things may happen:

    a. Television programs could be canceled or their budgets slashed; supposedly, Sesame Street is relatively safe compared to other programs, so Romney wouldn't be "killing Big Bird" in that sense. Rural stations, however, would suffer the most.

    b. Increased reliance on advertisements (PBS has caught flak in the past for running advertisements geared towards children) and corporate sponsors (recall that Masterpiece Theater was officially "Exxon Mobil Masterpiece Theater" for a number of years); PBS was warned in the early days not to become like their "commercial" counterparts when they first started these practices.

Although I'd like to believe that people would get behind PBS should they lose the financial backing of the government, there's no guarantee that it would be enough. If the average citizen can't contribute enough, the above two scenarios may very well come to pass. This article covers some important points, though I disagree with the National Review's assessment (inaccuracies regarding being "government-run," and that "anybody with a few thousand dollars and an Internet connection can launch a television series or a radio program today." For the latter point, access to thousands of dollars and the internet is not an accurate indicator of the potential quality of said programming nor that "millions" of people purportedly being able to do what PBS does automatically means they'll rush to fill the gap left behind). Despite having said all this, I would sincerely like for the public to financially support PBS as much as you do if it is at all possible.

    4. I don't have a problem with Chick Fil A not giving money to lame organizations, and I don't think lame organizations expect them to either. For me, Chick Fil A's previous contributions to groups like Focus on the Family (they oppose anti-bullying measures for some reason) and the Family Research Council (a prominent member linking homosexuality with pedophilia) are disappointing, though I acknowledge it is their money to spend as they choose. I'm not judging Chick Fil A or the aforementioned groups for being uncomfortable with the concept of lame marriage, but I disapprove of the active mischaracterization of homosexuals and Chick Fil A's prior funding of said groups. (To be fair, Focus on the Family recently expressed their desire to redirect their efforts or concentrate on other topics; it remains to be seen if they follow through.)

    5. While I agree that welfare is abused by some, I believe the system was built for those "who need it and use it right" as you said; it's definitely not a perfect system, but I think it can be a lifesaver for people. As for debt, the spectrum of explanations as to how people fall into it is likely varied. Obviously, you point out the mismanagement of finances as an act of irresponsibility, which could be the story for some. On the other hand, debt can be an accumulation of student loans, medical bills, car insurance, etc., things that were not intended by the person to overpower them but did.

Politics are sort of the Olympics in the sense that media attention ramps up the closer it gets to a major event (election in this case), but I'd like to think that politics is more prevalent in the back of a person's mind moreso than the Olympics. I'm not regularly vocal on online political forums, mainly because the amount of time needed to write something that addresses everything I want to say (for ex., I skipped talking about social mobility and meritocracy regarding welfare) and cross checking every single reference for legitimacy. In between election cycles, I still read articles every now and then and think about issues like everyone else even if no one asks my opinion (mainly because no one talks to me in general except for that leprechaun that tells me to burn things, but that's another issue entirely).

Hope the stuff I wrote doesn't sound disrespectful; not meant to be.

Essentially, you're just questing as usual and a message will pop up saying there's an event in the area. It will show up on your map. It somehow measures your participation in it and awards you a gold, silver, or bronze medal for it. Bad thing is, it repeats.... often. At least that's my take on it.

As for as your personal story quest line, it uses instancing to keep you separate from gen pop while doing your own quest chain.

    Thanks for the summary.

Looking forward to seeing you in game Monk :)

    Same.

  16. Anyone care to comment on dynamic events? Just wondering how well they've been implemented; Joystiq didn't seem impressed.

On a side note, I'll join you guys when the game is half off (money/time issues and such). It may be a while, but one day, you'll see a human thief/ Norn guardian running towards your party.
