  1. We bring out the Pentium 3 800Mhz CPUs and the Geforce 2's... We also go back to 13" CRT monitors.
  2. Check everything from the telephone lines point of entry into the house. Did the water pipe bust damage the phone lines in the house?
  3. I didn't mean to try and talk you out of it. Studying computer science is solid. You learn to think very methodical and logical and it should never be too difficult to find a job. Instead of building physical structures out of tangible parts, you are building applications out of abstract ideas.
  4. Is it really that bad? I enjoyed Python programming as well as C++, but I was only derping around and doing "simple" coding. My dream job right now is to work for Kingsoft, which has headquarters in Beijing where I interned at. (That's why I considered going to Peking, as chinese companies would most likely prefer chinese universities.) There are plenty of things I'd rather not be doing... but I just want to go outside. I've been coding long enough to where I'd rather get paid $10/hr to work in the back country or be a trail runner. The office life is soul sucking. Day in and day out I sit in front of a computer with very little exercise through out the day. The same boring monotonous routine every day. And then you get caught up in the system. It becomes comfortable and you are content just where you are. You make decent money, but you are no longer challenged. Because of your mortgage, car payment, hair salon appointments, crack addiction, pure laziness or societies pressures... you will continue to go sit at that desk day after day and not look to challenge yourself any further. I've been employed by a fortune 500 company since I was 23. I've worked on embedded projects and applications that are 10+ processes running on a network cluster. I'm mostly a C++ linux programmer, but I've been working with C# and Microsoft for the past few years. I've built mission critical systems for the U.S. Military and my job has sent me around the world a few times... It's all been great and I have a lot of great experience, but I'm completely burned out. When you get to a point where you are working well below your ability level, it becomes very boring. Also, you need to be working for a growing company with management that has a clear direction. Being a programmer has taken enough of my soul that I'm leaving the 9-5 office life for the summer to go hiking. If all goes as planned, I'll be starting on the south end of the Appalachian Trail in April and heading north. Perhaps, I will try to find a better position when I return or who knows? Either way, I'm canceling my lease, putting my few possessions storage and rolling out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLCEUpIg8rE
  5. The life of a software developer is soul sucking. I have a CS degree and have been doing it for 9 years. AMA
  6. As a computer programmer, it looked like a solid website to me.
  7. message an admin on steam... I am powerless at work. Usually the server is pretty chill without admins. What kind of people are bringing in the server?
  8. I have no idea what is going on, but I'm getting horrible frame rates.. Aztec was in the 40's last night. I reinstalled a few weeks ago and it seemed to help a little bit. I think I'm going to do a format when I get the time.
  9. No doubt turnbull got it rolling again. I've been absent for a couple of weeks, but it seems like Saturday night customs really picked up the traffic too. CMM started getting a little played out and once we added ranks to the server, a lot of the regulars came back. It seems like once the server got a decent rank, its not too difficult to get it populated.
  10. FOOOOOORRRR AGATHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
  11. I moved to the dorms in 2000 and found counter strike shortly after. I was playing as all_kill_no_filler. My room mate was playing under my name more than I was. One day we decided to play under different names. I just changed my name to the band I was listening to. I never had any intentions on making it permanent. A few years ago I switched to 'fx' for short.
  12. I'll second this too. When the server is close full, the choke is very bad and makes the game much less enjoyable.

    Imagine...

I lived paycheck to paycheck my first three years out of college. It was crazy. I made more money than I ever had my entire life, but I was always broke. I got caught up in the city type way of life and sort of felt like I was supposed to do whatever everyone else was doing. It took a lot of work and sacrifice to dig myself out. 16k of debt and I had a mortgage for 172k. I quit buying crap, sold about 80% of the junk in the townhouse. All my paychecks went into materials to renovate the townhouse, so I could free myself from that burden. I ended up spending 10k in materials and I learned how to install everything from floors to sink/counters, windows, you name it. I finally sold the place for 172k. Great, back to square one. Broke and nothing to my name. I've been living cheap and savings about 33% of every paycheck since. I also don't mindlessly give my money away and consume stuff I don't need. I keep a few things in storage, but for the most part, everything that is important to me can fit in the back of my truck. My life is so much easier and I have everything I want. When you don't have to worry about getting laid off because of the situation you have put yourself in, you have the upper hand and you have many more options. Such as leaving your job to find another or to find more enjoyment in life than just a 9-5. In fact, I'm finally taking off in March on an adventure that I have been planning for years.

    guess what??

That's a pretty solid beard for 4 weeks
  15. Ever since I started watching the show... I now eat a can of cat food, drink a beer and huff some glue before I hit the sack. I don't feel too well afterwards and I'm not sure if I'm even sleeping, but I lay down and usually don't move until about 2 hours after my alarm goes off in the morning.
  16. I get nostaglic when I think of winamp. It was the first and only mp3 player i used until around 2005. I pretty much quit using it because windows media player eventually worked just as well for my purposes.
  17. There are still a few of us old schoolers around.
  18. Depends on the game you are playing. I upped from your processor to an I5 and it was a huge difference. I was playing Planetside 2 at the time. Pretty sure I was able to pick up CPU, mobo and 8 gigs of ram for around $320..

I know what you mean. I refuse to play that game too. I still trade my time for dollars, but I keep my dollars so I can buy my time back. The lifestyle of consumerism is a faux lifestyle that sold to people. It's not healthy and trying to live like that will only lead to depression due to an unfulfilled life. Do we really need to wonder why there is a 50% divorce rate and everyone is prescribed pharmaceutical drugs?

    Imagine...

The majority of people confuse "so that I can live" with "what I can afford on a month to month basis".. That isn't working to live, that is working to consume. Save your money. Live cheap, your life will be much richer.
