  1. So ban is over, how does everyone think we can avoid something like this in the future?

Not sure how you can considering the very principle behind the ban is perception. I don't envy the admins it's not an easy job. Sit around and warn someone they're getting to far ahead they can trigger events and wipe the whole team. Remove them and you deal with this when the player perceives his rushing had a tactic. It's a Kobayashi Maru.

  2. Moreover, I hope that some of the people from the game show up to comment on this, because we both know my team was not as far back as you're pretending. We were all grouped up in the yard when the tank died, and we ran from there to the sewers. Our team didn't spend 30 seconds chilling in the yard while we took the sewers.

At risk of being banned from the forums not even a week after I join them I'll come to your defence.

I was on the infected team when you were banned. You did enter the tunnel before the rest of your team did after the tank died to what I perceived was spawn blocking. You stopped at the end of the tunnel after you rushed through it (the large room with the ladder in it).

As for her threatening us when we were in the saferoom during the team scramble. Yes there was some backtalk. The team we were on was having a great dynamic and it was very frustrating to have to be scrambled when we were having fun. That being said when it comes to scrambling chick has the final say and if she felt we were out of line she was right to warn us about it. I do believe all "backtalk" stopped after she warned us.

  3. "there were lots of interesting things I found. L4D3 was the most interesting although it hasn't been updated in months so it may be dead."

  4. do they work with mp3 players too?

Yes. They have the 2 analog 3.5mm jacks, one for audio (so you can plug in to your mp3 player) and the other for a mic. The mic retracts in to the headset so you don't look to nerdy walking around town. It also comes with some extension cables so you can easily disconnect from your PC to hit the road.

When you say retract is it virtually seamless or does it leave a knob like when you disconnect the mic from a turtle beach headset?

  5. Hmmm.

Your computer might be fine besides the power supply. I had a graphics card blow a PSU once with the same symptoms. If you're letting your computer insurance (I didn't even know there was such a thing) handle it that's fine. But the fix might be under 200 bucks.

  6. A CMOS battery dying in a computer from 2007 is highly unlikely. Your data is not lost as mentioned above unless the reason for your computer's failure is the HDD crashing (you had issues with that earlier but it was a loose cable if I remember correctly). As stated above plug them into your new computer as secondary (slave) devices and once you have your new HDD with a operating system installation on it you can simply access the HDD in the file explorer and move your files over.

When you say your computer won't boot up is it giving you that "INSERT BOOT DEVICE" message it was giving you earlier?

  7. If you have the budget for a little more expensive I would go with the gaming card of that series the 580 it greatly outperforms the 560 TI and now that it's a generation back you should be able to acquire one fairly cheap. The 560 TI is a budget gaming card. Not that there is anything wrong with that in the least and it will certainly outperform that 4850 you have.

  8. There is nothing else said about that other than it's a Federation battle cruiser that requires very little crew and has a scalable warp drive while the Enterprise is a exploration science vessel with only warp one available to it. One of the coolest scenes in the movie by far is when that thing blows the Enterprise out of it's warp. JJ has an infinite source of CGI's and bless his heart he will blow every single one up before the end of the movie. I was kind of hoping for re-imagination of the Reliant but that battle cruiser was awesome as well. I hear rumours that JJ wanted to spawn a TV story with the 5 year mission but got shot down due to the fact that they can make more money of the franchise keeping it in theatres apparently.

  9. The 8200 is an older card but you should be able to get it to run in L4D2.

If you're running at your monitors native resolution have you turned off AA? (The lines will look jagged but not as noticable at max resolution for your monitor. It will also relieve some of the strain on your card.)

Basically your card is aged... significantly aged (2008). Even if it still was 2008 your 8200 was considered a budget card. If you still have a problem with your card even after turning every setting down to lowest you will need to upgrade your video card. Driver tweaking buys you a little but if you're playing on the 10 v 10 server you are getting close to if not exceeding the capacities of your card.

The single player is not nearly as hard on your card as there is only 4 players on a team there and that isn't even half of the chaos going on in the 10 v 10.

  10. on some servers they won't allow anyone to open the saferoom door if more than 2-3 players are too far from it.

This is a much better idea. Or even a plugin that will return the survivors to the start or to the group if they are caught rushing. The ability to open the safe room door doesn't make it much of a safe room.

Or perhaps alter the script to only allow a buy if there is X number of survivors in the room say two guys standing in the room with the door shut.

  11. I would like to recommend PS3 Media Server.

I use this in Linux but there is also a version that runs very well in Mac OS X. I use it daily to stream video to my SmartTV.

Like the name implies it originally was set up as a media stream to the PS3 but it also allows for streaming to SmartTVs and Windows Media Player between computers as well as the Xbox 360.

Here is a full guide to the software as well.

  12. This is generally the message when your HDD ceases to exist (parked, gone, platter crash, mechanically not going to work again). If Windows was corrupted you would see a different message as of right now that's the generic message the BIOS gives you when it can't find a device to boot off of. Check your BIOS as others have mentioned and also keep an ear out for clicking or not hearing your HDD spin at all.

The likelihood that it had anything to do with you being a "tank" in L4D is low to none. Your HDD just decided that was the time to die and then when your computer went to open a file on the disk to read into memory which happens a lot the machine locked up.

Another reason could be that your master booting record was altered on your disk while you were using your computer and that is preventing the BIOS from finding a device to boot from (it needs to find the MBR or no go).

This is extremely unlikely and you can quickly verify this by again checking to make sure the HDD even appears in the BIOS boot order list.

I did not read the whole thread before I posted and therefore should hang my head in shame.
