This is the last two days of the online-upgrade for "qualifying machines". Those "purchased" between June 2, 2012 and Jan. 13, 2013. Windows 8, whatever flavor, $15. Gotta be running any version of Windows 7 (other than Starter) Downloadable. Can make backup discs. Putting aside aspects of fairness, nobility and honesty, if you just enter a date between the ones listed above, and enter eBay or something as the place of purchase, in all probability it'll be approved. Microsoft really doesn't care all that much, otherwise this would actually have been fixed. For all the grumpiness on Windows 8 the bottom line is that it is tons faster than Win 7. Amazon has been doing a lot of lightning deals this week. For anyone that doesn't know lightning deals are basically deals that last for an hour, after that the next deal pops up. So I'm apparently way late to the game, but this little thingcosts some $46, keyboard, 7" screen, ARM CPU, 512M of RAM. I wasn't even aware Windows 7 Embedded had ARM CPU support. Looks like there is an Android distribution for it that makes it useful and gives you a rather low-end but still extremely cheap tablet with a keyboard. Maybe a good gift for the kids?
