SO I guess I gotta buy a new video card to play this game - been running a GF4 Ti 4200. I need to get one cheap though. What do you guys recommend on a budget?

Ive sat here almost every night with my finger on the mouse ready to hit the purchase button on Steam for HL2, then right befor i do my wife says "I got something for Corinne today for xmas, one less thing" and my finger moves off the mouse button.. Having to tell my wife, hey i just spent 55 bucks on a game and then i hear "dont you have games you havent beaten yet?".. If i buy it, it will be a few days befor it shows up on the bank and in that time ill be telling myself "you better tell her".. Sure we are a single income family with 3 kids but if daddy wants a new game to make him happy then so be it.. But then i think xmas is right around the corner and the wife's bday is on 12-9.. Ohhh the agony!!!!!!!

I'm diggin it so far. The models are cluth, sounds are clutch I've only played the first half hour and I love exploring and finding what ticks bots off and things like that. Auggy

Did you run like Hell when you were in the apartment building and the Combine were coming after you? Or did you take your time and look around? lol I ran like Hell. I love it there is a real sense of urgency and you just move. I think I will be playing this game again later and really look around. Apparently the G-Man is all over the place and unless you are looking, you will miss him.

Don't get me wrong I like having a possie with me. Esp when they give me health and ammo. Thats great. But if one of thouse freaken little peeons tells me to reload my gun one more time I'm gonna go apenuts on them. Oh I am the mighty Free Man you'll all bow down and worship me...and tell me to reload my gun evey 5 seconds. I'VE BEEN DOING THIS LONGER THAN YOU I'LL RELOAD WHEN I'M GOOD AND READY SO tinkle OFF. On a side note I love this game and just incase anyone doesn't ever read these I'll post it up

Dunno how far everyone is, and I don't want to give anything away even if people want parts to be spoiled. But when you go to rescue your ole pal, I love how at some points there are parts that will kill you if you go the wrong place or stand around just a bit too long. That was cool, but scared the crap out of me. Also, anyone read George Orwell's "1984"? I have not read it, but my girlfriend watched the first 5-10 minutes of the game and said, "Whoa, this is just like that book 1984!" Here's a link to amazon. Read the description of the book. It is very creepy similar to the storyline.

I am at chapter 14 Dark Energy and am at top of the platform with the 2 flying gunner ships and the big sphere in the middle. I take out the gunner ships and the girl yells hurry hes gettin away. I need to shut down the portal in the middle. I through them balls at the flapers and they go up but fall back down. How you shut down the teleporter? -
I got an email from ATI saying i still can download hl2 even though i ordered it on cd. How long does it take download? Is it an all night while you sleep thing?

Xbitlabs who i think is the best tech site out there right now has up some nice charts showing performance between ATI and Nvidia's cards for HL2. I am starting this thing on Page 4 so none of the screenshots on the first 3 pages do not spoil anything. The charts say it all though. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/dis...alf-life_4.html The charts pretty much follow this trend except for the CPU limited tests and the ATI cards are still on top but by a small margine. Also, the Nvidia cards have some graphical issues. So Bean.... glad i recommended that X800 card a few months back? lol

The game is purely amazing. Every level things get more amazing and cool. Maybe in a month or so when everyone's played through it I will get into some discussion with all of you about how it turns out and some things I noticed that will be in a most def part 3. Fatty, play though it. Just wait until near the end.

I've gotten to a certain point. And I've got no idea what to do next. The portal is open in the citadel and I'm standing on the ledge. Not sure what to do now. -
For some reason on my little brothers computer he has a Q for a crosshair... lol anyone know the cure?

Depending on how far you are in the game and have seen the BINK videos over the past year and a half, you know that you end up controlling some ant-lions and end driving around with ant lions trying to kill you. Well one of the coolest things I've done is go into the water and make them jump in after you and watch what they do in the water (Go under water to see).

I'm getting anywhere from 30 up to 190 fps depending on what's going on in each scene. I'm using the setting's that were recommended by the game. Everything is on high. 9600xt.

the shocking story of a little boy named ShadowDog. 16 years of age.. blown away by a PC game. Was it the game developers fault, Gabe Newell.. or was it the eager boy, a young mind trapped in the fury of what has been classified as "gaming". It was November 16.. 3:12 AM.. when the little boy, ShadowDog woke up to an alarm he had set for 3:00 AM to unlock the massively amazing new first-person shooter, Half-Life2. He approached his desk and saw the Steam News window minimized. As ShadowDog came closer, his heart thumping, louder... and louder.... AND LOUDER... it was here. The young boy started to unlock the game files and couldnt take it anymore.. he put in Devil May Cry 2 to try and pass time, for the unlocking was a mundanely long process that seemed to never end. TOON IN NEXT TIME.. Will he unlock the files, OR WILL STEAM PULL A BIG ONE! (sorry, class over, need to go to History)

I know everyone is treating today as Christmas in November, but i'm getting mine through ATI free, so i hafta wait for US Snail Are the graphics better than CS: Source? It's so hard to tell from screenshots. I've heard its gonna blow Doom 3 away, which I thought graphically at least was awesome. CS:Source is pretty awesome, but my no means mindblowing. Far Cry is every bit as good if not better looks wise. I'm hopin HL2 is better than all!! Have fun u lucky ducks.

i have a 5 page paper to write, about 4 hours of work to do on an engineering project, a meeting for sum stupid class at 7-8 and then my girlfriend's roommate is gone already on vacation and she wants me to sleep over....all this must be done today AND ALL I WANNA DO IS PLAY HL2

Ok didn't paying an unholy 49.95 for cs source purchase hl2 when it was released too? That was the impression I was under......Where the heck do you get a CD key from then????

It's marked 24.99 but you'll walk out the door with it for like 12.99 totally worth it it's a thick book. Very nicely done, just thought I would share the bargain. -
Do you think Valve and investors are making off steam, I mean honestly they sold a couple million copies without any cds being sold and with server costs probably covered in advertisements. That is wild.
