  1. I did some messing around in photoshop with the sky. A couple of copies and overlays (I forget the actual action atm) and put them at 50% to try to bring out the definition in the clouds. In the process I think you can see a bit too much of the transition of subjects to sky. Never the less, I really like this picture. I've got a few more I'm searching for.......
  2. Wife works both days this weekend. Had a hankerin to shoot something. So I set up my impromtu photo studio in the dining room and shot some pics of my favorite subject; my daughter. I got a few decent ones before she got tired of it. If you've ever tried to shoot portraits of kids you know the routine. Anyway, this first one is one I really like. Did a tiny adjustment with levels and then blurred the background (my sheet I hang up and some creases in it. This one was just for some fun. I couldn't get her to do what I wanted her to. So I gave her my sunglasses and just let her play.
  3. I shot probably 500 pictures taht day, and about half way through I was looking at my LCD and realized the "freeze" photo of a really fast shutter speed didn't do these cars justice. They didn't invoke motion. So I slowed way down and panned and got these.
  4. Well, after posting some of those pics up last night I got in the mood to go out and see what I could do tonight(haven't really felt like taking pics much lately). About a 20 minute hike to the bottom of the falls I was already frozen, lol. Only hung around for about a half hour, managed to get about 10 shots. This is one of my two fav's. It was taken well after dark. Just a quick and dirty PS job, but there's not much more I need to do to it. Haven't touched any of the others yet. -George As usual, feel free to comment on it. I can always use some constructive critisism or en(dis?)couragement, haha.
  5. Thought I'd throw a few shots up here for you guys(and girls) to take a look at. Not really new or anything, all taken since June. Feel free to comment if you like. . . . And one of my niece, awwww. lol I'm not sure exactly what that was she put on her head, lol. Enjoy -George Edit: Photobucket did something freaky with that first one .... sky got pixelated, blah. Additional random stuff can be found here http://photobucket.com/albums/v373/scourge133/
  6. http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/...sp?product=1192 or I was looking at this one http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/page2.asp
  7. Ok, so the new forum is up, lets make some use of it. I plan on pinning a topic soon that we can use to house links to tutorial and informational sites. Stand by for that. Since I'm getting into Photography, I'll make the first thread about photography. Photography is about 10% camera and 90% timing and eye, nevertheless you gotta have a camera to take the pictures. So, what kind of equipment do you use/own? My arsenal: 35mm: N50 SLR AF Nikkor 35-80mm f/4-/22 lens AF Sigma 70-210mm f/4-/22 lens Digital: D70 SLR AF DX Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-/22 Flash: Nikon SB-600 Media: SanDisk 1.0 GB Ultra II Casio ZX-120 for the drop in your pocket and go convience.
  8. so im looking to get heavily into photography and editing and im thinking of picking up a powerbook with G4 because the new ones with intels are dang expensive and also the powerpc ones are getting cheap! I want this program http://www.apple.com/aperture/
  9. Ok, lets talk about aperature for a sec. The terminology confuses the hell out of me. So as you go up the line from F1 up to F22 the opening that allows light to go through gets smaller, correct? 1/1 > 1/22. So, then from my reading it tells me that going 1 F-stop larger gives you twice as much light. If I'm shooting in F5.6 and some says you should step up an F-stop, should I be moving to F4 or F8? Here's my confusion, the way aperature is recorded/viewed on the camera lenses, in my head stepping up would be going from F5.6 to F8. But, if you think about it in terms of diameter of opening, stepping up would be going to F4 because the diameter of the lens is getting bigger. Which rationale is "correct" in the photography world. It always confuses me.
  10. Can someone explain film speed? Just bought BGB's old 35 mm and the wife went out yesterday to bought a pack of 200 and a pack of 800 speed. What are the differences? We are going to vegas today which roll would you have in the camera?

  13. At the Hayward gallery in London they are exhibiting work of Dan Flavin. Flavin used fluorescent lights in a minimalistic compostion to portray his subject and ideas. Here is his ubermicrosite Dan Flavin You can also see some of his work here at The Guardian newspaper. Theres an especiallyy nice picture that includes a visitor to the gallery
  14. My wife wanted to do some family portraits to be able to send out to grandparents. So I set up the tripod, hooked the camera to the laptop via Nikon Capture Control (I think that's the name of the software) and we had our own little photoshoot. Here's some of the better ones:
  15. I dreamed up the 2006 Camaro "Chief" by taking a 1998 Camaro Z28 and adding a 1968 Camaro 396 SS front end. This is my dream car project. I buy a 1998 Z28 with less than 50,000 miles, then get the Lingenfelter Performance Engineering folks to work the drivetrain. Lastly, I get a custom shop to fabricate a '68 style front end with 70s era Trans Am racing inspired front dam and minimal but appropriate ground effects. The composite for me to draw: Final lineart for me to start painting: Are there any good car artists in the house?
  16. This is the same image that I posted in the chit chat forums. Thought I would go into a little more detail for you here. Camera set to manual with the following settings so that each image would be somewhat the same: Nikon D70 - f/11.0 - focal length=70mm - shutter speed=1/500 - WB = -2 I started messing around with manually stitching them in Photoshop and got frustrated. I had some software that a friend had loaned me to try out just for this type of application and this was the first chance I had to use it. It is AWESOME. Called RealViz Stitcher. I imported the 6 images I had raw and clicked stitch. After about 20 seconds of processing a panny came up with all pictures stretched and skewed to fit perfectly. Hit the render button and set a couple of settings (file name, crop, etc) told it to render. It not only lined the images up, it lightened/darkened each image so they seam pretty much perfectly. I purposely shot with the white balance low so that I didn't get any white out effects from the snow. So after it was rendered I took it into photoshop and lightened it a little. I think the finished product is rather amazing..... Click here to see the image.
  17. Just to let some of you guys know, I moved a few topics to the sharing a critique subform. If your topic is missing its probably there.
  18. http://www.voodoo-pc.net/files/blockattackadvanced.mov Is the quality bad? Did it play right? Tonight I am going to render a larger version and post it tomorrow.
  19. Yo, here's some pics I made over th' years... I'm to lazy to look for more... but tell me what cha think
  20. Here is some pics that i made. Some are REALLY old and some are new.
  21. Hmmm....I just copy pasted from a different thread... *****This is Saris's work***** Anime artist with the first post up!! >< Been drawing for 3 years now, started when I was grounded for like, 6 months, got bored out of my mind and started to draw my own comic. Since then, all I've ever done in all of my classes is sit in the back and draw pictures. Only recently have I begun working with photoshop and the computer to make images, and it was a rocky start at first, but I thought it was great in my time, to finally have coloured pictures. This is one of the first pictures I ever did, I'm a little embarrassed to post it because of how terrible it is, but it was a scanned image, coloured with a brush using a 50-60% opacity to maintain the shading I had already done with pencil. As you can see, the result was less than optimal. I stuck with this way of colouring for some time because I was a little paranoid of drawing pictures solely on the computer. I then went into a bunch of chibi (mini-sized anime) when I started to make another comic and an RPG with RPG Maker XP. The one of the far left is Saris! >< Anyway, not going to post much more cause I got 1000 pictures on my computer. Eventually, I've gone fully computerized, and use 4-layered colouring (border line colour, light colour, in-between colour and dark colour.) then use a very dark shade of colour at a very light opacity to do the shading. Here are the results of my two latest pics with that technique:
  22. Anyone know of a great site that is trustworthy and a good place to purchase digital cameras? Maybe a sticky thread on where to get this stuff. I do know overstock.com is a good site for just about everything. Anyone have anything else? EDIT: I forgot about CNET. They keep a great page of price ranges and reviews and categorized by Mega Pixel (which has become a marketing ploy in digital photography now) http://reviews.cnet.com/Digital_cameras/2001-6501_7-0.html
