Laz.e.rus February 23, 2006 Author Share Laz.e.rus Member February 23, 2006 changes: Ive dropped the DFI expert and am going with the DFI Lanparty nF4 Sli-DR on the advice of dfi-street. The Expert has separate power issues requireing an 8 pin, and the only advantage it holds is the ability to manipulate some Drive thing wiht the ram that only a handful of freaks will ever use. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136151 Also, after much googling, the only diff from an Evga 516 and 517 (7800gt) is like 10 clocks on the OC. But both cards are OCing by 100 with no probs, so, pointless. Going with the 516 for about $25 less ( still OCd higher than BFG). Apparantly evga also offers "stepup" (trade in old card for newer with full credit) and has amazing customer service.

Laz.e.rus March 1, 2006 Author Share Laz.e.rus Member March 1, 2006 (edited) Update: I found another job, Im ordering the first part ( case) in an hour or two. ( Its first cuz rebate expires on 6th). Then ordering ocz Powerstream 520 ( by the 10th for rebate). Ram update: going OCZ GXt 500. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227066 Itw only a lil more, rebate till end of the month, and has a better heatspreader than the elge-k. This one is recommended a lot in DFI street as a great ram kit. There are better rams, but you pay for them ( I cant). Also, ocz has the overvote thing. Volting to 2.9 will NOT void your warranty or support. Its been listed stable at 280 and higher. Edited March 1, 2006 by Laz.e.rus

Guest zerodamage March 5, 2006 Share Guest zerodamage Guests March 5, 2006 I've heard nothing but good for this memory. Especially from the DFI overclocking guru's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231021 It is the RAM I am currently running at 250 (stock) 3-4-4-8 timings. They overclock great. Check out the Newegg reviews. If you haven't already purchased a PSU. Consider this model. It is what I use. http://3btech.net/ulxx2550waat.html I've also used 3btech a lot without issue. Though avoid their Chiefmax PSU's. They are utter crap. No way a 680 Wat PSU costs 40 bucks. AVOID THEM.

That thing you were talking about with the DFI board is a RAM drive. You can allocate memory to act as uber fast storage space. It is hardly worth the cost though. Here's hoping you aren't like me and you actually get your computer finished sometime before the next millenia!
Cujo May 24, 2006 Share Cujo Member May 24, 2006 hmm amd just released their brand new socket yesterday with availability during this week. any way you can cancel that order? don't get me wrong it's a great board and will do just fine it's just not as future proof now that amd supports ddr2. Laz.e.rus May 24, 2006 Author Share Laz.e.rus Member May 24, 2006 problem is...I have $210 worth of ocz pc4000 sitting in the closet waiting for it So, I build my amd dualcore 2.6 Mhz gaming rig, sell it at a tiny bit of profit, and hopefully by then, amd or conroe will be ready with Vista and dx10, and I can build that with the money I have stashed. If it doesnt sell, I certainly wont have anything to cry about.

Cobalt May 25, 2006 Share Cobalt Member May 25, 2006 Sweet gaming rig indeed. I hate Intel with a passion but if the Conroe releases with anywhere near the performance the reviews give it and with some reliability (which would be unlike Intel) I might have to switch camps when I upgrade again. Guest Dude- June 1, 2006 Share Guest Dude- Guests June 1, 2006 has anyone tested any reallife situations where the Socket 940 and DDR2 make any type of difference? I call market hype, as there are tons of AMD systems without DDR2 that more the outperform a more powerful Intel with DDR2. ] Socket 939 and regular DDR are dropping in price like crazy, and you have the chance to build a supercomputer of yesterday that will perform the same as a supercomputer of today because what takes advantage of all this new technology? They havent even started to fully take advantage of 64bit or a ton of the new technology. Dude forget the new stuff, get a socket 939, and with the hundreds and hundreds of dollars you save get another 7800GT with SLi, an extra nice case, and a set of Raptor SATA2 drives. If your running the Opteron and like 4 gigs of DDR4000 with that setup...there aint no game taking advantage of that for awhile. Especially counter-Strike. I mean do you have a 22" monitor? Laz.e.rus June 1, 2006 Author Share Laz.e.rus Member June 1, 2006 ?? I am getting a socket 939... Opty 170 to be exact. Waiting on CCBIE stepping to be more exact ( run up to 3.0 Ghz on air- 3.2 on H2O) am2 socket with DDR2 performs almost IDENTICAL to 939-ddr1. NOT worth the $ at this point. In the future as DDR3 comes into play and the AM2 memory controller shows it can handle it, thats when a diff will be seen. The 5000+ with ddr2 was outperformed in some areas by an FX stock. Dingy June 1, 2006 Share Dingy Member June 1, 2006 (edited) I'll probably be getting an opty-175 this summer and treat that as my last upgrade until the next system rebuild. Of course, I'll need to get a raptor or two, and the 7900GT... And by then AMD may own ATI. Who knows? BTW - I have 2GB of the OCZ Platinum and even though it was expensive, it was worth it. Good choice going with OCZ. I haven't had any problems. Edited June 1, 2006 by Dingy

Laz.e.rus June 2, 2006 Author Share Laz.e.rus Member June 2, 2006 rofl.. one internet ISP to oder online: $50/month one Floppy drive: $5 Having to pay $6 to get your $5 floppy delivered....priceless. Dinghy...I wouldnt suggest a 175. They OC LOWER than the 165/170s. IE: a 170 will cost less, and then even with a tiny 200Mhz bump, is the same cpu. WIth a little 600Mhz bump, its passed what the more expensive 175 will do maxxed out. With a nice 1 GHZ bump, its blowing the doors off what the 175 ever dreamed of for less money.
