Anyone got a free junker pc?

My roommate is trying to get into computer hardware (wants to get a degree). He is trying to learn as much as he can on his own though and the junker pc he got off his parents is DOA so I promised him I'd see if anyone had one they'd want to give away. We aren't talking anything impressive...something he can install Ubuntu on just to mess around with.

I mean, the one he got off his parents was a 700mhz processor with 256mb SDRam.

I have played 1.0 CS on that very PC and it was pretty cool at the time. But then came ATI and the old 7500 series to make voodoo cry. I had a 16mb voodoo banshee at the time and it was(when I purchased it) the fastest card on the market.

Hehe, I have an old Comcrap 433MHz Celery with a 13GB hdd, 96MB of ram (maxed), 4MB integrated AGP card, and 2 Voodoo 2 1000's running in SLI mode (the old 3dfx SLI mode, not the one nVidia does now).

Sweet. I have an Enlight case packed with a Abit BH6 and a Celeron 300A o/c to 450, 128mb of Crucial PC100, 2 Voodoo 2s in SLI, TNT2 32mb, Diamond Monster MX300 and a 9.1gig IBM HHD running Win98SE -all parts circa 1999. Ive been using it the past week cause my main comp died and I'm waiting for new rigs parts to come in. Dont get me started in my retro Win95 machine. :prplwacko:

Two Voodoo 2's in SLI mode? That sounds like a collectors item to me. lol

Still waiting for my 2x$30 MiR for them from 3dfx too...don't think I'll hold my breath on that one.

playaa - what do you want me to do? is s/he interested enough to want particular specs, or is this not of interest? from what i can tell, s/he'd need an atx psu, case, kb, mouse, and monitor. specs, or pass?

sj, detailed specs would be good.

It all depends on if he can find ram for it. (can you even find DDR ram these days?) He's as broke as can be.

DDR is still very findable. Check on NewEgg. I was looking to replace my 4x512MB dimms with a couple 1GB ones. I instead decided to save up and just upgrade the core system (cpu, mobo, ram) because DDR ram seems to be twice as much as it's DDR2 counterpart.

They're sitting in the box I just upgraded from. I'm waiting on a PCI-E card that Ty gave Swoop to mail to me. Also, I have a 3rd box sitting in my room that only needs ram. I took the 1GB from it (it was my linux box) to put in my gaming rig (the one I just upgraded from) to see how it performed. I also have another cpu/mobo sitting in a bunged up case. So, I really shouldn't be getting rid of the ram yet as it still has a home in a box, just not enough parts to complete each box.
