MadTomato November 24, 2009 Share MadTomato November 24, 2009 This is my first forum post in the history of the world. I'm not sure if this thread is about the retro server, but that's the only one I ever play in. I haven't noticed foul language. I do trash talk once in while, but in a playful, light hearted way. this includes but is not limited to: yelling "GET SOME!" after embarrassing Beowulf with a pump shotty, yelling "YOU LIKE THAT? YOU LIKE THAT?" while standing over the mo's corpse after he killed me the previous couple rounds. I haven't heard any omggayragcamper type of language, so I figure as long as the trash talk is clean and in good fun, its ok. I try to idle in the server as much as possible and jump in whenever i see at least one other person in there. As far as the map rotation, i'm ok with all the maps, i would just like to bring back train, nuke, vertigo. I'm not super familiar with non mainstream maps other than gungame. P.S i'm upset that i was purge of the steam id list. i keep getting booted now when the server fills up
ilovetomatoes November 24, 2009 Share ilovetomatoes November 24, 2009 Hm, random comments time: I love playing on retro, and it is the only CS server I play on. Unfortunately starting your MBA program while having a full time job leaves little time for gaming. I always check to see if there are people on, but with my odd hours of play it seems that many times there are not. As much as I would love to join to seed the server, if I only have an hour or so to play, I would like to actually play something. More times then not though I just switch over to TF2 which I play on the ville's servers, as ours didn't make it . As for the admin thing when ever I have banned anyone (I think like 3 people total ever, who were obvious speed hackers), I always try to make it by the forums afterwords to check in. For maps I try to ask around to the people playing what they feel like so that they stick around, as I agree that playing the same 4 maps over and over will clear out any server. I think more theme nights like gungame, etc could be fun and draw in a new crowd, especially if they were advertised on the MOTD, etc. Anyways, those are my two cents, hope they help

Ringadon November 28, 2009 Share Ringadon November 28, 2009 I think that it's a common theme that Most of us who play on the GC servers play here because we like the people. I started at the beginning because I was a language prude who got sick of hearing obscenities if I un-muted people. Since then I've found other clean servers but keep coming back here (and eventually became admin here) because I've found a CSS server that's kinda like Cheers I almost always get greeted by a friend when I show up and it makes the experience that much more fun. I've not been playing recently becuase school is threatening to kill me with work loads and stress. But finals week is coming up so I'll be able to play a whole lot more (never study during finals week you'll just die) I guess the point that I'm trying to make is... This community is the reason I still play CS:S at all and I want to protect it. Ring

ThruX December 1, 2009 Share ThruX December 1, 2009 I think this GC community is great. I have also see you guys try to revamp it to attract players as well. There is a core group that wants everything their way. I think it may be difficult to become the best with nothing. I advise you to find a server that is always full and use it as a guide. Incorporate what they are doing to our server. When we have a hundred or so regulars we may then refine the rules, stats, gameplay etc. I play on a few servers that have 40+ people on at 2-4am. This is just my opinion; take something that works and then adjust it. Our community on the server is too small and mundane to expect people to come back. Hope everyone had a good holiday and good wishes on the upcoming.

I'd say the idea of examining servers and trying to gain a competitive edge in the arena of CSS servers is a good notion though. It's all about the numbers! I don't want to play elsewhere, I want the gamers to come to gc
