Upcoming purchase - Advice please video card

In the process of building a new system. I have an Intel Quad Core and MoBo now. Planning on running 16GB DDR3.

 

Which Video Card would you choose?

 

-Radeon HD 6970 -or-

-Nvidia GTX 570

 

I am trying not to spend more than $400 on a card. Your opinions are appreciated. If you have a card in mind that is similar in performance, please post it.

I have the 6970 and it is a great card. It's even better than the 4870 x2 that I had before it and I had that card for almost 3 years.

Why is Nvidia only putting a paltry 1280mb on the 570? This is making me lean towards ATI.

 

I tried to run Skyrim Triple-Wide but my 1gb SLI cards choked due to lack of storage, on ultra settings anyways.

Despite what others may say, the GTX570 is an awesome card. It has crushed anything I have thrown at it thus far. You probably can't go wrong with either, but I'm partial to nvidia myself.

I really don't see a clear winner between these 2 cards. Looks like they swap punches with the benchmarks, ATI slightly beating Nvidia in some games, and Nvidia besting ATI in others.

They are pretty much the same price too? Why is the ATI 6970 better per dollar?

Found a few deals on the 6970 and 6950 2GB. Looks like I am going the ATI and Crossfire route. Thanks for your inputs

all he needs now is a SATA 3 SSD. if you wanna go the cheaper performance route though; get a OCZ vertex 2.
