Etiquette

This is related to what mercman posted earlier about player etiquette, but probably does not warrant the same attention. I've been playing on the server for more than two years, and it still surprises me how some old members still do not show a basic level of respect to other players.

I was on the infected team with these three particular members, the score was close, and we were playing on the hard rain level where the elevator goes up. Being unsuccessful in stopping the other team from going up the elevator, they just ragequit right after, and one of them says before leaving, "I bought 4 spitters.. and you guys still fail..Now I know why [player A] left, I'm done," in the most conceited manner.

Normally, I wouldn't waste my time posting about ragequitting, as people are welcome to join and leave as they please. But these members, especially the two out of the three, have done many disrespectful things in the past as well, and they always (the keyword is always) leave the game when the going gets tough, and subtly stack by d/c and connecting again. Just shameful... and the most amusing thing is that they have not shown any considerable improvement in teamplay even after 1 year+ of playing on the server, and yet they have perfect expectations from their team. (Please.. you are not swatfishy or general or chimi) You'd figure these members would show some maturity even after all this time.

I was there too and what that player said was really disrespectful, it was a close game and we did rather good the last rounds and it was really close but after the elevator incident it all went to the toilet just because we were mostly all dead when they got in.
I've seen this a few times (I'm kinda new), sometimes I just ignore those comments about "why nobody spits?" or "oh wow guys, they got in good job infected"... it's frustrating... I know, but this player said it in a manner that we got us a bit mad.

Admins and such that have the power to edit this please do so. After an entry, please add a description of the action and *why* we will kick/ban for it.

If you can't and want to add a few cents than just post a reply. Replies will be deleted after awhile to keep the thread more or less as a stickied single post.

Note that all of these things can/will result in a kick/ban. Sometimes kick. Sometimes a short ban. Sometimes a forever ban. As with all bans sometimes people get caught in the crossfire. Sorry about that. Just post up in the relevant forum and it'll get taken care of.

1) Rushing.

What is it: Not staying with the majority of your teammates; rushing ahead of the group.

Why is this bad: This is a team game. If you rush ahead the strength of the group is lessened.

When is it allowed: When your team has no chance of making it to the saferoom and your teammates give you permission to make a run for it.

Read this for the full version: http://steamcommunit...107329955645529

2) Camping the safe room at start of game.

What is it: Staying a long time within the safe room at the start of a round. Anything more than four or five minutes without a legitimate reason is bad.

Why is this bad: The round will not start unless someone goes outside the safe room.

Exceptions: In the process of balancing teams, waiting for someone to join to even the teams.

NOTE: Its a game. Get on with it. even if teams are not balanced, staying in the safe room and complaining about it isn't helping. If it's one of those nights, take the night off and play somewhere else, read a book, etc. But you can't camp this room and grief about it.

3) Language; Encouraging others to grief, spamming voice/text chat.

What is it: Seriously. If you don't know our standards perhaps brush up on them?

Why is it bad: Makes life miserable for everyone else on the server.

4) Stacking/ Team switching to win

What is it: Switching to the winning team or team with more players in order to win

Why is it bad: Makes game less fun for the losing team.

When is it allowed: When an admin switches you or you move from the winning team to the losing team to balance the game

Additional rules that apply to all GC servers:

Respect others by

* not deriding other players for their shortcomings

* not whining about other players' success or your own failure

* not insulting others

Be polite by

* not using foul language or pornography

* not making racist, sexist, or otherwise bigoted comments

* not intentionally disrupting gameplay

Show sportsmanship by

* being gracious as a winner and as a loser

* making an effort to help your team win

* not exploiting weaknesses in the game to your advantage

Keep your screen names in line with the above. We'll let a little innuendo slide, sometimes, but generally we'd rather you'd keep it classy.

Basically? Are you being a dick? If yes, then stop. If no, good job!

Is [player A] being disrespectful to someone else? Start to Demo. ~>record <name>

i find it pretty annoying when people ask why u do this or why u do that or why didnt u do this etc etc and mainly just complain about every. little. thing, that the team does or doesnt do that they do not like. i normally just ignore it. but it would be nice to not have discouragement because its demoralizing, esp since this is a team game.

as for the people that rage and come back to join winning team, just another reason why i sometimes love being on the losing team with em. they know who they are. learn to accept losing gaiz. =]

Yep, everyone can't win every time and I've even been on a team full of members/pros who have just been in a slump and done horribly. It happens.

If you have a mic, use it and get your game plan together in the saferoom. Once survivors get a good rhythm going and rush as a team through a map, it's so hard to set up in advance of that!

I always lose on Looney & Peanut's team :( LOL. And I always gotta tell Oak what to do it's like she's been around Meng to long.

But yes in all seriousness, if you are frustrated, and feel you aren't happy and want to leave that's cool, but no need to comment or make someone feel bad or insult them.

There is a report feature on the forums in the top menu. I suggest people seriously start to use it. I do not know how this system works but I would hope that board members would read it and confront the players in question and just let them know that their behavior was inappropriate. Forum posts like this only lead to witch hunts and silences players in my opinion.

At times I've been guilty of this I'll admit. I'm very competitive and will sometimes try and "lead" by saying what we should plan for, but sometimes that doesn't work out too well and I get frustrated and leave. But I don't call anyone names or disrespect people, I just say "see you guys later" and log off instead. So I apologize if anyone has heard my rants.

On a side note I know we have this new ability to report people, but when it comes to people talking on the mic, I only see 3 people the whole game in the UI, and there's 6 other players who can use a mic and I have no idea who it is. Is there a way we can fix this to show who's talking on the mic?

I think what happens in these types of situations is that you get a mix of seasoned players and people who bought the game 15 minutes ago. There are strategies that work in this particular server that don't work in the standard 4v4 servers. When I see we have new players I try to talk them through the map IE. "what we want to do here is....." and it probably drives the members nuts when I do, because they already know. I notice that a lot of these new players don't have a mic and don't chat, or maybe they speak a different language.

Sometimes this adds up to terrible teamwork and in a close game this can be extremely frustrating. It's not their fault, they are just inexperienced in this server. I mean the close games are the best games in my opinion, so it can be maddening when you have one team full of seasoned members and another team w/ 7 seasoned members and 3 people who don't communicate and you lose the game probably for that reason.

What we have to try to remember (especially myself) is that we were all new here at one time and try to be patient with new players. I know sometimes I want to pull my hair out, and sometimes it's time for me just to take a break from gameplay, but we should just try to help the new players along to become seasoned members.

We all get frustrated and do some complaining at some point, but some of the things mentioned in here are not acceptable. Without knowing the identities of the people being accused, it is hard to rectify this. Tell the admins when you feel someone is doing this or put it in that report forum. If you have a screen shot or a demo, the person can be banned to help institute an attitude adjustment. Always feel free to message me, if you don't have proof, I will give them a personal warning/discussion. If I am in the server and miss the behavior, please message me at the time.

Thanks peanut. I will keep in mind about the report forum as well. Although these members conducted themselves poorly, I did not feel that they deserve a ban. Sure, technically they broke the 'rule of respecting others' but these additional rules are general guidelines, not a black and white condition in which to institute a kick/ban. At certain times, they can also be good teammates, but the manner in which they left was really terrible and this similar behavior has been repeated in the past. Thus I just felt like sharing on this board and hope they will change their behavior on their own accord, not for the sake of avoiding future consequences.

When looking at a community, no one sees how the people who come and go as the standard, they look at the people who are a part of the community (Members and beyond). If they see members not obeying the rules they probably wouldnt join. In that regard, members who are disobeying the rules regardless how small, should be banned.

Make me admin. Ill ban all players who show an IQ of less than 130. Excluding me ofcourse.

I would also setup special Olympic games. Where noobs can play and we can watch.

OK, is this the attitude everyone is talking about, and why I wont make Admin? :)
