turnbullTeRRoR November 20, 2014 Share turnbullTeRRoR GC Alumni November 20, 2014 Man here the last 2-3 weeks my friends list has been hit up and down with hacks. I have had 3 friends changed there names to " DONT OPEN THAT LINK I SENT YOU" Someone's grabbed an account and sent a nasty suprise link with all sorts of malicious goodies for your pc. This morning upon awaking I noticed I had a steam message.......from someone I've never seen before. I read the message. 4 seperate texts with a link....all obviously scripted about trading...... So I don't recognize the name. Hmm view aliases .........none......hmmmmmm whats up STEAM ? you unsecure piece of pooh How can someone I dont know / not added to my friends list Message me. Thats all.

stutters November 20, 2014 Share stutters GC Alumni November 20, 2014 Doesn't answer your question but still a friendly PSA... Friends don't let friends not use two factor authentication. Enable it for steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1266-OAFV-8478#steamguard

turnbullTeRRoR November 20, 2014 Author Share turnbullTeRRoR GC Alumni November 20, 2014 Nah really I've been having to bounce from work PC to home PC to moms house PC so I'm very familiar with the double auth. process.

Biggs November 21, 2014 Share Biggs GC Alumni November 21, 2014 A couple links were sent to me from people that haven't messaged me in a long time. Something like "Hey check out this new item I got: *Here'sALinkThat'sObviouslyATrap*" I assume going to this page is going to compromise my account. Kind of a phishing scam on steam? walkingCat November 21, 2014 Share walkingCat Member November 21, 2014 Apparently, I don't have valuables for scammers to try me out. Or I have good people on my list.
BlackYoshi November 21, 2014 Share BlackYoshi Member November 21, 2014 If someone wants to trade and asks you to click any link at all I automatically delete them. Unless I talk to you on the regular I'm not clicking any kind of link ever. Do this and never get hacked, boom I solved the issue.
Kuma November 21, 2014 Share Kuma Member November 21, 2014 People uses some scripts or programs, which allow them to scan peoples backpacks. It's even easier to those, who trade a lot as csgo lounge or tf2outpost. They started with fake steam community links, as broken grammar : stemcommunity,...etc etc, then with broken tf2outpost link. Now they're sending fake puush links, tinyurl links and even mumble links, to download latest version.
TheFirstMonk November 29, 2014 Share TheFirstMonk Member November 29, 2014 Not to be off-topic, but I've been friend requested by about half a dozen accounts by people I don't know with a Steam level between 0-3 and no profile/information (usually). As a general rule, I'd suggest blocking these in addition to the above posted advice.
samurai nightling November 30, 2014 Share samurai nightling Member November 30, 2014 (edited) Kind of funny, as I'm not getting any of these random invites to friend or trade. I don't know what kind of circles you all are frequenting. Edited November 30, 2014 by samurai nightling
