Hey everyone. It has been an incredibly long time since I've done anything on the PC side of gaming. However, I've built a new gaming rig, and on my end, it's working great, but thought I'd share it with everyone.

{Motherboard} ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z
{Processor} AMD FX 9370 Black Octacore
{RAM} Kingston Hyper-X Beast @ 2,133MHz 16GB (2dimm)
{Cooling} Corsair H100i GTX
{Additional Cooling} 8x Corsair SP120 (120mm) Performance @ 2,350rpm
{Graphics} XFX Radeon R9 290X 4GB
{Audio} Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCIe card/front I/O
{Case} NZXT Phantom

Here's my current setup; I gave two of the 21" screens to my brother, since I sort of ran out of room.

Speaking of my brother, I built a similar system for him...

Here's a photo of it before wire management.

The only real differences are...

1. Same case, but red.

2. Running Patriot Viper Xtreme 4dimm 4GB @ 1,866MHz

3. Corsair 850Modular PSU

4. Different cooling unit: Corsair H55 (it's a more entry-level. A little higher temps, but still nothing dangerous)

Pretty good.

I personally prefer intel platform, can also go with :

ASUS x99pro platform ~$325

Intel i7 core 5820k ~$380

Corsair Vengeance LPX 4gbx4 pc4 21300 ~$190

XFX Radeon R9 290 ~$330 or wait for the 300 series

Can upgrade where it is needed, this is a build with good value imo.

Cooler and PSU are easier to decide...

a 4k mointor and a good ssd are important.

Personally, I own a 4K monitor and don't feel they're all that necessary, yet. On the gaming side, most games don't "officially" support it, and you really need a multiple-gpu setup to run games at that resolution smoothly while also looking pretty. I do, however, run an Intel PCIe SSD with 3gbps r / 2gbps w

Intel CPU's are generally slightly better, but nothing game-changing when related to purely gaming. I don't use my machine for anything outside of gaming, there's really nothing that I do that requires the best-of-the-best, or even close to it, really. From a gaming perspective, I find that it's just a difference in preference; CPU's are so fast these days that I imagine games are hard-pressed to fully utilize them, and there are still many games that don't run threaded, or use multiple cores, for that matter.

I'm also an avid console gamer, owning both a Wii U and an PS4. Speaking of hardware, prior to installing anything...

Depends on the games really. Most games will play just fine on AMD CPUs without a hitch (maybe a few fps difference) but some games those few fps make all the difference. I personally prefer the AMD stuff for budget minded builds but currently run an Intel system while I wait for the next gen AMD stuff to see how it performs.
