Reminder on griefing on L4D2 servers

For some reason, after all these years, I feel the need to remind players of the GC rules of conduct:

 

 

Respect others by

* not deriding other players for their shortcomings

* not whining about other players' success or your own failure

* not insulting others

 

Be polite by

* not using foul language or pornography

* not making racist, sexist, or otherwise bigoted comments

* not intentionally disrupting gameplay

 

Show sportsmanship by

* being gracious as a winner and as a loser

* making an effort to help your team win

* not exploiting weaknesses in the game to your advantage

 

Keep your screen names in line with the above. We'll let a little innuendo slide, sometimes, but generally we'd rather you'd keep it classy.

 

Basically? Are you being a dick? If yes, then stop. If no, good job!

 

A few of these issues seem to have been brought up lately, especially the sportsmanship part, where winners and losers are not "being gracious" and where certain people are not "making an effort to help your team win"

 

Have fun, but remember there are 19 other people playing.  If you are bored of the game, annoyed you are losing, etc... instead of wrecking the game for the other 19 people, just leave the server.

If I use a deagle and still can cover myself and some one else on  my team, does that make me a disruptive player? It does not and it should not be a reason to get kicked or banned.

 

Being incap and not asking for points is more damaging to the team.

Nothing has changed regarding our rules or the enforcement of them.

 

I will, however, give an example: If you are a regular player and you leave the saferoom and purposely don't take any tier 2 gun, but instead go out and just use 2 pistols for the map, I will ban you.  You can do that on our empty server or on another server.  The people that have been doing this, know exactly what they have been doing.  Simple stuff.  Go back to the way you guys played before you suddenly became bored of the game or decided how cool you are in real life, if you can "troll" people in a computer game.  

 

If you want to wreck the games for the majority of the people who still play here, or if you are going to say things on the server to make fun of or be sarcastic of our decisions (such as who and why we unban someone, or when we enforce the rules, etc), you will be forced to play somewhere else.  

 

As I have to explained to many of you... if you disagree with a ban, kick or the way an admin handles a situation or if you want to question GC's decisions on bans or rules, the server is not the place to debate them.  

 

Feel free to send me a message through the website, with any questions you have or any complaint.  I will either add people to the conversation or post it in the board forum for discussion or post in admin forum for discussion, depending on the content of the message.  

 

I always want to enforce GC's standards, rules and purpose, while also protecting the vast majority of the players that come to our L4D2 servers to play a fun, competitive game.

I frequently go deagle only if I'm stuck with a crappy weapon (tier 1) but I still take the crappy gun as a backup. I swap between the two and make sure I'm always reloaded. The point is, don't go out single/dual pistols only just to test yourself. You will get destroyed and it puts your team at a disadvantage, even more so if they have to constantly heal/save you. 

 

If you simply want to test yourself I'd be ok with someone doing this when the server is empty during the day (you vs all bots with no team mate.) You won't last long, but ok. As soon as another player comes in, be considerate and play correctly.

FYI, I didn't kick or ban someone for using a Deagle.  Meng didn't kick or ban someone for using a Deagle.  I also didn't mention it in my post above.  Also, Red Devil, I have never warned you or discussed with you anything about this or about the use of a desert eagle.   

 

The rules here are simple, don't try to make so much out of this because 1 or 2 people like to troll.

What smug ego? This game has been out for years and when you play a lot it's extremely boring doing the same thing every game. Why do you think people created mods for this game or any game. It changes things up. I have never purposely tried to hurt my team or "flaunt my skills" in front of everyone for fun. I chose not to use a gun for that game because we were losing pretty bad and it was pretty obvious we weren't going to win regardless of how hard i tried. I like to have fun when i play games. Taking things seriously all the time is too stressful and makes things unenjoyable. L4D2 is a competitive game don't get me wrong, but its not what it used to be. I like to have fun as do many other people i assume. And not using a tier 2 gun is a challenge, a fun challenge, and if you actually watched me play without getting kicked every 2 seconds because the admin refused to let me speak or even buy a gun, you would actually realize how much i was doing to help my team and kill things. I don't play this game much because i work a lot, but not being allowed to use only a deagle or pistols under any circumstances other than VIP mode seems pretty ridiculous and takes away from having a good time for some. Before getting kicked i didn't hear a single complaint from anyone about me using them. The only person who seemed to have a problem with it was Meng. I don't know him and he doesn't know me but kicking someone because "he" doesn't like it doesn't seem fair.

 

And don't assume you know why I do the things i do because you played with me a couple times. My so called "smug ego" is me trying to enjoy myself in an old game.

And no offense but this is complete crap. Don't even try to say that you haven't been frustrated or wanted to kick people because they refuse to use or ask for points. A 10v10 server that is based around using points to help your team that DOESN'T require you to use them doesn't exist.

Points have never been required to be used in our games.  Some people do not speak english, do not understand the point system or are new to it.

It actually is if you haven't noticed. Me and Soda were both kicked(kicked mind you, not banned) for choosing to use pistols and a desert eagle instead of a tier 2 gun. I don't care about the ban for arguing in the server, I understand that and will accept that. I'm talking about you saying specifically that we were griefing and "ruining the server" or "not making an effort to help out our team". But i can tell you i was definitely giving an effort, i just wasn't using a tier 2 gun. I was doing anything a good teammate would do. Heal, give out points, pick people up, shoot or kill any SI i saw. If thats not helping then tell me what is.

But as i stated above, noone seemed to care or care enough to complain about it to us or anyone else in the past except for when meng did and when you joined later on. If we were really ruining it for other people, then please let people who are not admins speak up and i will gladly give up on this argument. And I'm not talking about one or two people, if there's a substantial amount of people who get bothered by this enough to want it bannable then that will be the end of it.

Here's a couple of ideas if you want to make things more interesting:  Use a gun that you wouldn't necessarily buy; let's scrap the !sp / !np  altogether; play a different SI that you never use; build your own server and do what you want. 

 

Let's not take things out of proportion here - Please, either behave or be gone, don't spoil the game for 19 other people, you are not the team.

Meng kicked Soda for things he was saying, not for weapons.  I watched the entire thing.  I banned Soda later for something entirely different, which is one of the reasons I made this post.

 

People do complain, they just dont always do it in the server.

 

In your situation, you didnt even bother to take a gun.  When a new person comes in and does that, running around with a bat, clueless, everyone wants the person banned.  When someone on the winning team goes easier by using lesser weapons, I get that. When people do it because they are on the losing team and are bad sports, that can become an issue.  If you are bored of the game, as you mentioned, and you are on the losing team and dont like it, just leave.  Your whole post is about you, how you want to use weapons as a challenge, rather than how you can help your team.  Regardless of the score, the other players on the team are trying to make it to the end of the map.  Play hard and have fun.

I have been PM'd for this sort of behavior as well. "I had to leave the game because such-and-such is griefing, not playing seriously, only using pistols or melee" etc. Honestly that might be the only time I would notice it is if someone complained for that sort of thing. In fact one day I was PM'd multiple times about someone in particular and they basically cleared half the server from the way they behaved.

 

I think Maestro has an excellent point. If you're bored try another gun or another infected class. I started doing this too and it actually did make it fun for me.

 

We can always try voting in for having VIP or asking for maps that don't get much play (Swamp, Cold Stream, Passing) We can vote for pathing as well. (As long as the server isn't full of entirely of new people obviously.) Typically I'll throw a vote up if at least 2 people ask.

I agree. I'd love to see custom maps back in a specific time slot again or at least hold a vote on Friday/Saturday for it. I'd be totally down for doing VIP and/or pathing regularly. I can't even remember the last time I played either.

Your whole post is about you, how you want to use weapons as a challenge, rather than how you can help your team.  Regardless of the score, the other players on the team are trying to make it to the end of the map.  Play hard and have fun.

 

You must not of read what i said. I help out my team all the time, how does me not using a normal gun affect me not helping my team? I played no different than i normally would, i just chose to use two pistols and if you ask people who were paying attention i was doing a pretty good job. You're basically saying that I got kicked because i didn't try as hard as i could. If thats the case then you might as well kick half the server. There are lots of people who don't try 100% ALL the time. Its a video game and nobody wants to be competitive EVERY single game.

I think using a deagle is fine, if you're good at it. But you should have a tier 2 weapon as a backup. What if you run out of ammo in your deagle, instead of wasting time reloading, while the person is getting incapped, you can use your tier 2 weapon. It's important to have a backup.  Not having a tier 2 as a backup to your deagle is bad planning.

Tamatoa, I am no longer going to discuss it, since you can not understand.  I read everything you said.  If you think it is fine, when you are on the losing team and refuse to take any weapon and just use a handgun (not even a desert eagle), then what is the point in continuing this conversation? You are making big issue out of a simple one.   Meng asked you nicely to stop doing that stuff, you refused and then he finally kicked you.  So what? Again, okay, you are bored, you don't like being on the losing team, you want to try something different.. I get it.  So then try a new game or server.  If you participate in any poor behavior, you will be kicked or banned.

 

Just a reminder, again, I never kicked Soda for using a desert eagle or any other specific weapon.  Soda was also not banned for using/not using any specific weapons.

 

If you are a sore loser and choose to do things like rocket in as a hunter and swat at people, etc, you will be kicked or banned for griefing, just like people practicing wall jumping as hunters (and not attacking), just like someone refusing to move forward or someone going back to the original safe room, just like someone that is purposely letting people pounce them, or just practicing dead stopping them.  None of this is new.  None of this will be allowed in a competitive game.  There are a lot of people that actually want to play and this is a very team oriented game.  We will not allow games to be ruined by people who are bored or sore losers.  There does not need to be a specific rule about each little thing.  Just show sportsmanship.
