Community Poll #3 - Workshop Addon Options for GC Server(s)

In the past, GC had two L4D2 servers up at a given time for quite a while.

Server 1 did not allow client-side workshop addons, and Server 2 did allow them.

Given that many L4D2 players enjoy having the option to customize the game visuals and feel to their preference, it's worth exploring enabling that option for GC!

Let us know what you think about these questions, and elaborate on your thoughts as much as you'd like, as it's very valuable to hear!

The problem with having 2 servers, even in our hay day of a full server almost nightly, we did not have enough people to fill both. People want to play together. I almost wonder if it's possible to do a server with more than 10v10? I have seen a few of those before, but not many. Maybe it becomes too crazy?

I'm open about the addons but am concerned about using them to cheat or get an advantage. I honestly am ignorant about various addons. I think I had a scantily clad Ellis once but that was the extent of what I loaded up many years ago.

@looneypumpkin yea we can definitely go above 10v10.

There's some 13v13 servers out there, which if I remember correctly were the ones where chargers have the same hp as tanks basically lol

I'm sure the question of performance would come up regarding this, to which I can say the main performance hits result from common infected more than players.
i.e. commons spawning, attacking, and dying, seems to drop server update output consistently from what I could see., though it's hard to be 100% sure.

There's also ways I've tested a small amount that automatically create a new player when joining.
e.g. when it's 4v4 and someone joins, it becomes 5v4, then (I assume) another player joins, it becomes 5v5.

Using addons that give an advantage is cheating, and 'scantily clad' survivors would be an issue considering we get children in here?

@MPG1770 Yea regarding cheat addons - I'm looking into ways to blacklist clients from joining with specific addons.

Regarding the family friendliness of addons, this shouldn't be an issue, as workshop addons are generally client-side, so your game is not affected by other players' addons.

Yes, no one but me could see my Ellis. Though I'd probably have some explainin to do with my kids. Though they did see me accidently play nude BG3 characters. Supposedly clothing and armor are different things and if you drop your clothes, your armor does not cover you, lol.

My vote is for 2 servers, and for addons to be enabled on at-least 1 of the servers. If playing with advantageous addons is something the community will frown upon. Manage the behavior real-time. Maybe a process exists for reviewing players suspected of committing the offense. If not, develop one. I would rather play L4D2 with my mods that I find tasteful against someone using cheese anyday. Let's be honest, anyone that has ever played competitively has played against a cheater. If someone wants an advantage they will find a way around mods being disabled.

Yea that's what I was thinking, I'll just dish out 14 day bans when people get caught lacking with cheat addons

And as long as there's always a place people can place on a level playing field, should be good!

I just voted for the options that MIGHT bring even more activity on BOTH servers now.

I've never used addons, or mods since I started playing on these GC servers in late June 2014 (which btw, my 10-year anniversary of being a regular on here is apparently next month), and I don't plan on doing so anytime soon; but I'm cool with both servers having addons if it brings more daily/weekend traffic.
