Carpooling

Ok here is my deal. I will be driving from the Chicago area to Fragfest 04 on Friday. I will be leaving sometime in the morning so that I can arrive on time. I will be coming back either Sunday in the evening or Monday morning that hasnt been determined yet but I have Monday off of work so I am in no rush to get back and will stay for any festivities on Sunday. I will be taking my 99 escort(30-35 mpg on the highway) and driving by myself if necessary but can take other people who want to save money and split the cost of gas and such on the way. If you are interested you can always AIM me or reply here or PM me here or something. If anyone is interested we can finalize details in the future figured I will just post this now in case anyone is considering it but didnt want to drive. I am a driving machine(drove from Seattle to the middle of Minnesota in one sitting(24 hours, 1700 miles) :P).

Yeah my escort will fit 2 people comfortably in the front seats and two more in the back seat uncomfortably :P Maybe if we get enough chicagoans we can do a 2 car caravan/carpool? Bust out the radar detector and hit the road I figure Ill do 70-90 the whole way depending on what road/highway Im on and what the flow of traffic is doing ;)

Sounds good to me. We should try and meet somewhere near you. perhaps near Crown Point or Merriville. I'm sure there's someplace on highway 30 and I-65 where we can meet, that is if we take 65 through Indy... I suppose we could take 90 across then head south, but I think thats a longer trip... . I could be wrong though. Travel time to Colombus via I-65 to I-70 has been about 6-7 hours pending traffic and weather. Lancaster can't be that much farther.

hey chuck, i live in chicago too. im sure u already know. im in the NW subs around where I90, 355, and 290 all come in the same area. (schaumburg area). i still need to pay and ive been talkin to bullet401 and gunman who live in WI about carpooling so maybe somehow we all can meet up somewhere and have a 'convoy' of cars.

what u think, mag/long/bullet/gunman?

I am interested in carpooling/convoy of cars. Where can the 5 or so from Wisconsin meet you Illinois people? We can leave around 4-5am if needed.

OR if you are interested...our other plan was to get a hotel the night before and hang out in Ohio with anyone there the night before the LAN. That way you can get some good rest the night before the LAN.

OOH OOH!

It's looking more and more like I'll be travelling ALONE! Which I HATE!

can I join in this caravan? I can drive up to Chi-town and meet you guys maybe Thursday night (if someone could provide me with a floor to sleep on I'd love ya...and don't forget the place to take a dump in the morning...I live by my ritual morning dumps...^_^ )

anyway...I'd seriously love to be in that carpool...heck someone can even drive my car (cause I HATE driving) as long as I'm in it with them and they won't act like an idiot.

Plus if we can fit my PC parts in someone elses car I can easily fit 4 comfortably in the convertible and cruisin on the highway in July in a convertible...it can't be beat j0!

*edit*

oh and as for Gas Mileage...if set on cruise at 80 my car will get up to 500 miles from a 15 gallon tank...so about 33mpg when on the highway (as opposed to the 16mpg in a city...no idea why)

If you did drive up to chicago you could more than likely stay on my couch/air mattress in my apartment.

The only problem I have with my car driving in July is that it has no A/C :P Doesnt bother me once Im on the highway with the windows rolled down its fine but some other people might not like riding in my car ;)

As far as leaving Thursday night, I wont be doing that :P I have to work Thursday and dont get home until 7pm and wont feel like taking off to drive all night after that.

no I meant ME leaving Thursday night to get to Chicago in time to sleep until we leave Friday morning.

:D

I don't care where I sleep as long as I get to.

However, I will warn you...I have driven in 2 cities in my lifetime and got lost multiple times in each city...I HATE driving in cities (I hate driving in general).

so if you're house is hard to get to...I'm gonna need perfect directions

:P
