  1. Im going to give it to you guys straight. Everyone tells me how 1.6 doesn't change a thing on your computer capabilities. I want to run 1.6 better than it is now...Ok, Here is the jist...

    My computer: Sony Vaio:

    2.0 Ghz Pentium 4

    Windows XP

    256 MB of RAM

    ATI Mobility Radeon 7500C

    Cable connection...usually under 60 ping.

Not sure on the sound card, but Im not worried about that.

Ok, heres the deal...My computer is a laptop. I played with it in 1.5. I got straight 100 fps most of the time in 1.5. Sometimes in action sequences or fights, my FPS would go down to 60...especially on Iceworld. Then with smoke or really large firefights (atleast 8 people), it would go down to 20. I didn't really mind that and ignored it. Didn't do anything about it. I ran OpenGL under the 1024 by 760 resolution. Once again...it ran fine with great FPS or atleast I was satisfied.

Then, I downloaded Steam and 1.6...and everything went to h3ll. Now I play under 800 by 600 resolution and the top FPS I get is 40 when in game. On maps like the new aztec and inferno, my FPS goes way down to like 15. In firefights, I get as low as 6 FPS. Its impossilbe to do anything at less than 10 FPS. Yes, I know its a laptop and I do keep it at a 16 bit in video mode. Im not exactly sure how to fix this. Can anyone help me out? If so, Thanks in advance.

  2. Login Failures

Some people might be getting the following message when attempting to login to Steam:

"Login to steam failed. Either the specified account does not exist, or the password was wrong. Please check your email address and password and try again."

This is a bit misleading - your account exists and is fine. The authentication servers are under heavy load right now. This problem should be resolved shortly. Thanks for your patience!

  3. now it won't let me log in, change password, or create new.  (Failed with error 200.. could not connect to Steam.)  Wild.

  4. Ok, first of all, lemme breathe...I downloaded the beta and signed up and posted to be a tester for the game. When I started trying things out, it killed my 1.5 skills. So when no one contacted me on being a tester or wanting any sort of advice from me, I went straight back to 1.5 because I said that 1.6 has a "LONG" way to go before it goes public. Now, its out and they haven't fixed a single bug it had when the beta first was tested. In my opinion, and no one has to agree with me, but 1.6 doesn't deserve to be on computers right now, it doesn't deserve to replace 1.5, and it definitely is far from my expectations of CS. It never should of went public. Thank you.
