  1. Are there any games out there yet that use more then 2 cores?

A few years ago when I was playing Bad Company 2, I upgraded from my dual core intel to a quad core, so I could play the game. It made a world of difference.

I played BC2 last Christmas on my old intel dual core, and got 60+ fps with max settings. I figure video card matters more then CPU, did you get new video with that CPU upgrade too?

  2. I guess will be now is what motherboard chipset to go for. Intel boards have ALWAYS been over priced and polluted with so many different models and chipsets. It's always driven me batty.

I dunno, my last intel board was a Abit that I ran over 3 years and was under $70. The last CPU (C2D) I ran was only $50 and I had it clocked to 4.0Ghz, you don't have to buy intel's most expensive stuff. A quick glance at newegg shows plenty of Sandy Bridge capable motherboards starting at $50

  3. The way everyone is crazy about multi core CPUs, I take it all these people do all day is encode video. I would have to say 95% of the time 2 of my i5 2500K cores are idle. Are there any games out there yet that use more then 2 cores?

Oh yeah, the K6 sucked for gaming. I had a K6-2 400 and a Celeron 300A both at the same time in the 90's. Both similarly priced, the Celeron had an edge in gaming, and laid waste to the K6 when overclocked.

I don't think AMD became a true competitor until the launch of the K7.

While I'm not a AMD fan, I am glad the company pulled through their hard times in the 90's and are still around today.

  4. I've cut thousands of pieces (cathedral door parts) at my last place of employment ,but it was on a much larger more industrial saw. Same thing but more durable and more forgiving. Still, I've seen new users break blades in 5 minutes, while I could use the same blade for 20 hours. It takes finesse.

I dunno about the bottom groove, but sounds like it's there for a reason. The one I used didn't have one, just large 2" bearings. Maybe there for stabilization, same thing with the pins, otherwise it would just go nillywilly all over the place. The one I used didn't have pins, but a solid slot in thick steel to keep the blade from twisting while you turn the piece, it's gonna happen.

Tightening the blade will take some of the slop out, but you dont want to over tighten the blade. or under tighten for that matter. There should be a gauge somewhere on the machine to indicate the blade slack between the rollers, but i guess it depends on the model. Cant tell much by the link.

Get some extra blades and eye protection, and dont where gloves and cut some practice pieces. Hell practice cutting strait first. I've seen a few people get hurt by these these things. R E S P E C T.

Remember, it takes finesse. If your no good with women, give this thing up before you loose a finger. :prplwacko:

  5. As onxy said:

I would spend the few extra bucks and get the K version of the 2500. I have mine running at 4.0 @ default voltages.

DDR3 is so cheap, any reason NOT to get 8gig? Just get slightly slower stuff, you'll never notice it. Course I guess you can always add more later.

    And:

I have the same Corsair 750, pushes my pair of 460's juts fine. I can see it pushing another 560 in your future.

I have the Cooler Master Hyper 212, and its a steal at just $30 shipped. The thing is a monster!

  6. This is sort of like, you love donuts, you hate that they can make you fat, but you still eat them for breakfast every other day. You hate it but you're still gonna do it.

EA is just trying to cover their butts.

I do love doughnuts, and I used to eat them a lot. But now it's yogurt and fiber bars for me in the morning, guess It's better to change habits before some doctor tells you too eh?

So what information will EA be collecting from the consoles?

  7. Yah sometimes Bushwack sorry for sticking out my Fallout e-pen haha. I honestly really like Fallout 3, I just thought that it was too close to Oblivion and not at all like the first two. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not what I was hoping for when I played it.

So did Fallout New Vegas turn out to be what you thought F3 should have been?

  8. What are you waiting for then. Fallout 1 and 2 = two of the best RPGs of all time. Fallout 3 = Post Apocalyptic Oblivion

Oh your one of those people. :D

I played Oblivion, and loved it. Same with Fallout 3. But for some odd reason they felt like 2 different games to me, weird.

If I was going to replay and older 2D RPG again, it would have to be Arcanum before the Fallout twins.

I love me some Arcanum, or as far as I can remember, its been 10 years now.

  9. Well that sale didn't last long...

Or.... better yet find a deal for Fallout 1 and 2 and buy them instead

I have them both, and played them back in the day. Never did finish them, hardly even half way I think.

Fallout 3 is one of my favorites of all time! I bought all of the DLC and put over 200 hours into it. Worth $60+ in my opinion, so $10 is a STEAL!

Yes! I also have 200+ hours in Fallout 3. Surely the best Single player game ever made.

  10. Steam has Fallout3 for 6.75 or $9.99 get's you the Game of the Year Edition which includes all 5 DLCs (better deal IMHO).

    Fallout 3 on Steam

For the 2 or 3 people out there who haven't played it yet, now's the time to jump on this. I personally like it better then New Vegas, and I'm still playing the game today.

Fallout New Vegas is also a cool $10, and all other DLC's for both games are on sale for cheap. Can't go wrong if you have passed any of these up.

  11. Wow. So Clarity does exist. The thing is, I didn't think *anyone* uses it. It is bone stock; no maps (unless I gave Bushwack some powers long ago)

How does it play for you btw? It's located just outside of Washington DC.

If I can remember such things as how to log on to it (and actually I'm not joking) I shall ban the innoble cur immediately (I'm not sure innoble is a word)

    -Fk

GC has a server, and it's called Clarity??? I saw the old server die one day and didn't think anything about it at the time, so many other servers where going out too.

Just figured out why I've never run across it in the browser though, my ping there is 100+, so I kinda avoid those servers.

I haven't played in a few weeks (new 3 monitor setup :D) but I might give it a whirl sometime this weekend if I get the chance.

  12. Well, I wanted to get the Phenom II b/c comp program like GAMESS (edited for typo) optimize multithreading abilities to where cores matter, not speed or threading. It sounds crazy, and when my boss explained it it sounded crazy, but there you have it. I'll write more about it when I figure it out.

Craaaazy maaann. I recently upgraded from a 2 core intel E5200 @ 3.9 to a i5 2500K and gaming fps are identical while just pushing a single GTX 460. I even overclocked the i5 to 4.0 and still no better fps. Seems the 2 extra cores I have now are just sitting idle, sucking on a soda. I'd hate to think I had a 6 core CPU with 4 cores lounging around while I was gaming. But now, if all you do is decode video all day, I'd have to say go with the hex core over the quad, Handbrake will thank you.

Are there any games out that can actually use more then 2 cores? Any up coming games? I'd say go with a cheap i3 for now and take the extra cashola and dump it in your video card where it matters more (or SLI mobo). And when games actually start using more then 2 blasted cores upgrade to the proper CPU type then.
