Have you tried your onboard sound? I know it sounds yucky, but give it a shot. I'm using my Abit's Realtek ALC888 8 channel (24bit) and I'm impressed with it, especially the price. Much better then my aging sound card that I ditched for lack of Win7 drivers at the time I switched to RC 6 months ago.

Gah Flitter wash your hands.
This happens to me about every year or so, but I haven't had to take my new(ish) G5 apart since I've started shaving my cats.
Hmmm wonder if you could put a mouse in the dishwasher like a keyboard, ha.

Another annoying this is that since my motherboard thinks my CPU is at >90c, the fan runs wide open now. Having to use SpeedFan to slow it down to 55%, but the program always defaults back to 100% when I reboot. Any ideas, or maybe another program. I plan on getting a quiet hs/fan but I can't right now.
idk about your cpu fan, but I use rivatuner for my gpu because it sets it way too low for the temps. It also starts whenever I start windows.
You can't set speedfan and have it stay even through reboots? Or are you using cold storage or something like that? (Best anit-virus software EVER)
I downloaded someone's IP35 profile and worked fine with my IP35-E motherboard after a few tweaks. Finally figured out how to make SpeedFan remember my settings and all is well. It's working as well as the BIOS controller, just have to wait till windows loads for my fan to slow down.
Also bumped my cpu voltage down a notch, dropped my temps from 60 to 55/56 (both cores maxed).

I picked up a Intel E5200 for $40 on black friday. Not much of an upgrade from my E2160, more or less just an overclocking toy.
I almost freaked out, my BIOS cpu temps posted 90c at boot, and would shortly shut down. Had to disable the CPU overheat auto shutdown, once booted into windows Core Temp posted 31c.
Also for some reason the multiplier is stuck on 12x, should be 12.5x but I cant change the multiplier now like I could with my old E2160. I'm using the same BIOS rev. No problem though since I'm overclocking, just strange.

One last thing, why is 1 core always 5-6c hotter then the other while under load? My old cpu was always within 1c.
3dMark Vantage
Big whopping 42 point difference. This benchmark is bust.
CSS
1600x1200 all max but AA 4x
270fps
Fallout 3
specific save point with lowerst fps I could find using Fraps
old E2160 - 63
new E5200 - 78
My fallout fps increased 25%, not bad for a $40 upgrade. I'm totally happy with my purchase plus I have a use for my old CPU.

If you could find the socket LGA775 motherboard for under $100 (which I'm sure you can - try gigabyte or asus) then you can get an E5200 and overclock it quite nicely (plus $15-25 for a better heatsink). Save some monies there too if need be.
Do you ever overclock? What kinds of games do you play? What are you going to be using the pc for?
I just picked up a E5200 for $42.98 after shipping, great deal if your going to overclock and not worried about virtualization in Win7 Pro. Not much of a boost over my old E2160 @ 3.2 but I need a CPU for my HTPC.

I totally forgot about Huxley. The game was looking pretty good...a couple years ago. So it stinks huh.
I haven't played UT in a few days, I'll prolly be on for a bit while having a few beers to night.

Picked up one for my son for Christmas, ordered a book for my daughter and got free shipping on both.

Working fine now....I don't know what it was.

It's happy Ham Day at my house. Oh and meatballs too.

What games do you play again? That 9800gtx video card is getting a little dated for a new build. If your budget limited this a gts 250 would perform slightly better at a lower price.

If it was me I would spend a little more dough and get at least a GTX 260.

Trying to make links in the forum but doesn't seem to be working, anyone else?

I noticed the user score (PC version) for Fallout 3 is only 7.8 at metacritic, seems kinda low so I checked out some user scores.

Seems plenty of people rate the game 0. Yes a big fat Zero. One caught my attention: Ropert P. gave it a 0 due to crashes, says he can play the game for 3-4 hours without a crash but sometimes crash only after 3-5 minutes.
HOW CAN YOU STAND TO PLAY A GAME FOR HOURS IF IT SUCKS SO BAD?!?! lol

@bush - sounds rough! How did things finally end with your SIL?
She was able to buy a house and move out, it all worked out good. We owed here her for all the baby sitting she did while the kids were young away.
-
My sister in law stayed with me and Tina for about 6 months a few years ago. Even though Tonya (SIL) is a great gal, after a while it added stress to the household, for me anyway. Family is one thing but I couldn't imagine another guy in the house in the morning while getting ready for work, ect., that wouldn't last long with me.
I understand these are tough times though, who knows there may be a couple more in the house before it's over with.
My unemployment is about to run out I may have to make my kids share a room and rent out the other room.

Are "Steve" and "Michelle" married?
If not, any reason why one daughter could have a live in BF and but the other? Parents playing favorites or just don't like Dave?

Wow! There is life here! Yes, I've seen "(" playing and totally agree with Bush. ( has a real attitude...
Or I'd consider sponsoring Bush's admin as I know he still plays and knows much more about how to manage the server than I do.
Yeah he has potty mouth issues but that's not the problem, I can handle that as can most people. It's just when he says your hacking so he logs off and logs back in with hax in hand. Nobody I know wants to play with someone who is aimbotting and people will leave.
-
Oh my bad, didn't know.
How much to be an UT admin again? I'm jobless so it will be an IOU.
-
There is someone always playing on the server going as ( . He an ok player not that great, but every time I join he starts calling me a ()&&*^( hacker. Today he was playing but then he left, rejoined and never missed me. Check the logs please Flitter. Is Flitter even around???

I use a Mac Mini to push Netflix streaming to my TV. Works great.
I have an old PC (Athlon XP / Geforce FX 5200) to steam Netflix and works great also. I still prefer DVDs but streaming gives you that quick fix.
-
I think it's great there is still a GC UT2k4 server but it's, um...always empty.
So Flitter, how about turning it into a Torlan demo server just for a short trial period, just to see if it gains any extra traffic.

These Fallout trinkets are selling for over $40 when they are just homemade. Crazy.
Here's how:

Torchlight for $10.00
in Computer Games
I'm thinking about this too, yup I don't like don't like digital downloads either. But at $10 and seemingly endless positive reviews I might just grab it. If it was retail I would have bought 2 by now lol.
