  1. Gentlemen,

My team is working on details to possibly move everyone over to GC. I think that would be about 5 to 10 folks... Out of our twenty active members I can only see a hand full willing to make this kind of transition.

Is there someone I can chat with to figure out the details? We've been together since 2004 and are a mature clan with the same rules that GC follows.

This is still in the setup and planning phase for VOA. Since I am very familiar with GC I mentioned this to their current leaders as a possibility. I'm the founder of Veterans of America, but I am no longer active in their daily leadership. I'd like to introduce their current leaders to the folks (preferably some board members) at GC.

I know Fatty is pretty busy but if there's another individual that I can PM or speak to on vent/TS I would appreciate it if we could setup a meeting... I can get the VOA guys together and I think we could hash out some details. They also would be better able to give an estimate of how many paying members they could bring over to GC.

Thanks all, and I appreciate your time. Happy new year too!

  2. Maybe you could shed some light on how multi-player works. One question that come to my mind is: How realistic is it? 2-shots and you're dead kinda thing? If so, do you respawn immediately or after the round is over? Basically, is dying frustrating?

The multiplayer is very functional, so much that I haven't even played the single player. As to your question -- yes about two hits and you're down for 60 seconds or so. Because of this the game play is pretty slow, but also deliberate. There is definitely a learning curve to this kind of game because of its vastness. The only real complaint I have about Arma2, is that it's a bit buggy at times. There are so many facets to this game that it more than makes up for it in variety and realism though.

So yes, dieing is a little frustrating. If you have a good team though, the medic will be right with you so he'll revive you straight away. After 60 seconds is up at that point you can respawn at base. You also start off with a number of instant spawns (like 3 I think) so that you wouldn't have to wait for someone to revive you. Once you respawn at base you could paradrop or catch a knighthawk ride over to the main AO. Usually the pilots are pretty consistant with inserting soldiers to the AO and back.

All in all I'd encourage everyone to at least take a look. This is like battlefeild, but more realistic and much, much more immersible with the different soldiers, weapons, vehicles, and expansions. It's a total sandbox so walking or running is just like RL as in it takes forever just to go a few hundred meters. This makes the vehicles so much more rewarding! :-)

  3. Kinda dead around here or what?

If any of you want to play on a quality server then checkout the sparta servers. Add a fliter called "sparta" then join the domination server. Pretty good fun with 40 players working cooperatively.

I was hoping some of the GC folks would be in to realistic simulators. <_<

  4. So I'm addicted to ARMA 2... For those that don't know what it is, it is considered a "milsim". Game play is real slow compared to other FPS games, but more controlled in a realistic manner. For instance, vehicles drivers and pilots all required to be in their own TS or vent channel, etc.

It's a blast so that's why I'm posting this... ever since CAL died I haven't really played CSS. That and CAL IM was more of a full time job than fun.

so who would play? Could someone add a poll to this thread?

  5. It's hard to get credit when you have no debt.

So I think the OP will be in debt again. I too paid my stuff off a long time ago. As we grow older we realize how to be responsible with debt to increase the quality of life for our families. Once you have kids it's even better because you will work harder for them and hopefully will be making more money than ever!

So no, we don't need 300k houses and 40k vehicles, but if you can pay for it, then I think you should do it without feeling guilty. This is the basis of our economy and capitalism in general. Some people live frugal, and I don't fault them. To think a person is any better than another based on their debt/income ratio is short sighted IMHO. It goes both ways.

Are teams going to be allowed a forum somewhere to plan since there is no already formed teams? If that makes sense.

of course, we'll put private subforums in here for any team that desires one.

What about TS? Could we use GC's TS or do we have to find another place to do ingame communication other than the built-in stuff?

We'll volunteer a dedicated TS channel on our server to anyone who needs one, ip is ts.voanet.com:8767

just tell them you there for MCC and Vinas sent you.

    Very nice of you Vinas.

Not a problem, we've got room for other fellow CS players!

PS: here is the url, you can see the MCC channel is already there... Depending on how many teams want to use it we can make subchannels (Team1, Team2, etc) http://www.voanet.com/serverview.php

  8. Peer guardian?!?! hmm not sure what that is but voanet does redirect to http://www.detpc.com/VOA/ maybe the redirect is what peer guardian dislikes?

Thanks for the followup guys! We do have a lot in common (the GC folks, DOH, and VOA) and I would like to get a reputable set of links going. The thing that made me want to ask for a link exchange was the fact that sometimes with all the bans and what not, it can feel like we're fighting a losing battle just to keep our servers clean. This way we can keep in contact and support one another, our comunities, etc.

Anyway thanks again for the followup and I look forward to seeing your "links" area online. Happy holidays!!!

    Vinas

  9. Would GC be interested in a link exchange with VOA?

I think it would be a good way to strengthen our communities and provide the players with even more CSS resources. Since we both run clean communities it seems like a good way to network with each other.

Anyway, we have a "Links" section on our website (www.voanet.com) and I wanted to get some input from you guys before I linked anything. :D

  10. That seems to help with the repetative maps and also keeps a fresh rotation of stock maps going... One big improvement for us was keeping the max number of extends to 2 five minute extentions instead of four 10 minute extentions... That prevented new people from just joining on dust maps and extending for like 40 minutes.

    Very nice avitar BTW

  11. Shep, if you don't mind me asking, do you work for the railroad? If so what parts? I have a good friend who works in the Detroit area... Meet him at the Southgate VFW, near Detroit (where I'm from). Anyway all the railroad guys he brought in seem like a cool bunch of fellas always ready for a couple cold ones.

  12. Um...did anyone else wish they could start pressing buttons, moving levers and turning knobs, or is that just me?

    Nice pics!  Very clear!

No, I wanted to press them too! Reminds me of the equipment we used in the service, although ours were green and light brown/tan. Very shiney and new, nice pictures!

  13. --edit--

I have also heard from Vietnam veterans that WP grenades were used to destroy or render inoperable materiel that could not be withdrawan in the case of a retreat, and some of the communications materiel actually was designed to be destroyed in this way.  I think part of it was built with magnesium, but my memory grows ever more hazy as I try to recall more specific details.

It's called base denial and these methods are still used today, although not for any weapons as far as I'm aware. Then again even a spoon could kill a man if the situation deemed it necessary. :(

I'm a combat veteran who served in Op Dessert Storm, Op Dessert Shield, and Op Enduring Freedom. As a combat engineer we built a lot of infrastructure and were responsible for BASE DENIAL just like what you're talking about with the com equipment.

  14. Ok, Gunny, you're dismissed.  No more instigating. Down boy.  You probably don't even have steam installed.  :erm:  (you've made some good points...points are made...gj, ty, gg)

    Real quick...

Who told you that was a smart suggestion, or are you just one of those people that think because you said it, it's smart.  Good stuff...well, entertaining.

Next, guess what?  Pavid said you went on and on.  That means you went on and on.

    Thus endeth my intense investigation.

If you're not happy about this, send an email to I95@gamerscoalition.com to see if you can't get someone with some pull around here to get serious about this.

Fine I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said "smart." BUT it was still a suggestion. Don't grab these little details to start an argument.

Gunman made no good points. I take it you're not too bright either...

As for you basing your opinion on what "Pavid said..." That's pathetic. I was not going on and on. If there is any way for YOU to see the server records, you will see the truth. You shouldn't depend on other people. It's not good for you.

I don't think I want to e-mail anyone anymore... Because I feel like this whole administration has problems... :boo:

Ok, I was searching for some "choke" articles and came upon this thread. I'd just like to say that "Sheikah42" is a classic example of the type of people I ban on our server all the time. It's funny really since there seems to be an endless supply of people like him. :biglaugha: By the way if Sheikah42 is still reading this, don't visit us because you'll eventually get banned in our house too. :wavey:

  15. forz you can always ask me if you have special request to play, i consider you and elocin to be great regulars and your requests will always be answered when i am admining.

and as to the map thing, i only set nextmap, and i do the skunk rule. sometimes i change maps that i would rather not play but i always confer with other gc or admin before doing so.

We have the same issue with map votes. Seems like dust/italy/dust2/etc all get played out. One thing I did on our server was restrict map extend time to 5 minutes and keep the last 3 played maps off the vote list.
