  1. If you want a good .45 the Ruger p90 is fairly cheap for the most part if you can find one and they are very nice if you don't have small hands. The big selling point for the Ruger P series is that they are dependable and on the low side in pricing.

I had a Ruger p89 9mm and it was the best 9mm I have owned. I have large hands so I'm not a fan of the berettas or glocks. I had a Glock 19 9mm and it rattled with a full mag and was not as accurate as my Ruger.

Sorry you didn't like the Glock. I was told about a grip wrap for my Glock 17 that had ridges for my fingers. Shot several perfect scores at the police range after I put it on. Haven't had a chance to shoot the Ruger. Next time I go to the gun club I will see if I can rent one before I but the S&W.

I like your tag line. My son-in-law just back from Kirkuk (Air Force) and he was involved in ground ops so we were very nervous for him. A very close nephew in the Marines is going to Iraq now. You can bet he is in our prayers every day.

God bless you and all your family in the military.

  2. I may be opening a flame war can of worms but...

I'm looking to pick up a semi auto soon and wanted to get input from you gun-gurus out there.

I've used a Glock mdl 17 (9 mm) in law enforcement for almost 20 yrs. As a good friend who was a police rangemaster used to tell me, it's about shot placement over caliber size. 1000s of rounds, hardly ever clean it and it has been flawless. Excpet for the Wolf ammo I bought to practice for my CCW when I retired. Went back to UMC ammo and no problems. Course I still have my service ammo hollow points for home defense. What ever you feel you can handle. But I am about to buy a S&W MP 40 or 45 cal cuz I want one of those guns. I am a "buy American" kinda guy when I buy guns.

My two sons are police officers and both carry Glocks. One 40 cal (issued) and one is carrying a 45 (personal purchased). They both swear by their Glocks as service weapons. Neither have had a malfunction. Just a difference of opinion about the caliber.

Hope you find a good deal.

  3. I went with WD Raptors for the speed but I worry about the longevity of the drive. Seagate is the current relaiblity king if you don't get the low end drives. From now on all my data drives will be Seagate and I used Maxtor for years. We use multi-terabyte HP arrays at my work with FC SCSI, FC SATA and now SAS drives and they are all made by Seagate. We have had only a few drives fail out of approx 500 drives. If you can afford it buy the Seagates.

  4. Did anyone go into the forum discussion on [H]ardOCP when they did the review of the HD 3870 X2? 37 flippen pages! Definetly a lot of passionate people out there. I saw a picture in one of the replies that talked about the NVidia X2 solution that looks like two boards layered on each other (aka daughtercard). Not very well engineered to me.

I like the ability to do quad GPU in two slots. 8 screens if you are so inclined. If the drivers can reach a good stage of maturity, combining performance, stability and functionality then AMD will have a winner, even if it is NOT the absolute top dog for performance. I got started with ATI line using the All-In-Wonder cards. If I transition to the TV Wonder cards I will use AMD video cards to minimize problems and so I have one vendor to get support from.

  5. Touche. FYI: Yngwie Malmsteen is not a group, he is a person. He is also Quite possibly the greatest guitar player on earth.

Mark Knopfler, or LÄ°M JEONG HYUN playing Canon :wiggle2:

  6. Sometimes I'll be playing CS and my screen will go completely black and the machine will reboot. This just started happening about in the last month or so. The machine is about 3 years old --

    motherboard: ASUS A7V8X-X

processor: AMD Athalon XP Barton 2600

    video card: MSI GF4 TI-TD8X 8900-060

    RAM: 1G Kingston ValueRAM

    Windows XP

Any ideas -- I have 2, although I'm not sure how to verify either.

    A. My video card is going bad

    B. My memory is going bad

I like the memory idea better -- since CS is about the only memory intensive app I ever run on the machine -- and I think I bought really cheap RAM. Also, occasionally (less frequent) CS will die with a memory read error. Anyone know how to verify either of these -- or other ideas?

Is it overclocked? My older machine was and started rebooting in CS and other apps. Memtest said memory was fine so I took the CPU back to stock and no more reboots. Hope yo find it.

  7. Didn't see a recent thread on this so I'll start here.

It appears a recent CS:S update broke my Favorites list. I can't get any of the GC servers to stay in there. As soon as I do an Add something flashes at the bottom of the list area and the server doesn't show. I've tried changing filters to see if that helps and no change. If there is a thread else where your welcome to joint this one or redirect it.

    Thanks in advance. :luxhello:

  8. Lately, it seems there's been a spurt of people ratehacking, setting their cmdrates or updaterates to extremely low numbers, which masks their latency to proportionate numbers, which allows them to play smoothly on their computers, while allowing their player to "skip" around on other players' screens (Contrary to what some believe, the player themselves play smoothly; they don't lag themselves, only prevents other players from hitting them, I just tried it on my friend's server). So, I was just wondering if something should be done about them or not, and your opinions.

Thanks for helping explain what I had seen but didn't know what was causing it. This is a just question.

  9. Although I don't play on that server much, I want to thank Sir Fatty, head Knight of the Realm, and all the other GC knights for ALL their hard work and efforts to continually improve things for ALL GC members. This is exactly the primary reason I joined GC. It definately was not for my kill ratio of 1.10 or less!

As a server administrator (90+ servers, 10+ TB of storage) I realize that any time you put up a new server environment you never know exactly know it will turn out and tuning sometimes is a constant task.

Well done Fatty and the admin squires! :luxhello:

  10. Congrats John, you're a true Knight of the Realm! Appreciate all your efforts on the West server. And I said before I used your tuning tweaks and they are helping my performance. Looking forward to many days of friendly jousting with you and all the other members of GC.

Mebmers like is you is what sold me on joining GC.

    Well done!

Insesant cussing, especially the F word, I told him to stop twice.

He spelled the F work later one letter at a time to avoid the filters.

Jesus even chimed in to tell him to stop cussing and that he wourd get banned by GC.

I asked for an admin thru TS but alvin had just left and jay left before Ebil's request for an admin could get someone there.

I'll try to get a screen shot next time. Any thing else let me know and I'll get 'er done.
