  1. Lastly, you don't have to like me or how I handle things. I don't get worked up about this place like some do. And I sleep just fine at night. There are more important things in my life. And the beauty of this place- noone is forcing you to post here. You're free to stop posting at anytime. I'm sure there are plenty of other places you can do your posting.

exactly. I don't really get worked up about this place either like some do. I sleep VERY well every single night. And the beauty of this place, no one is forcing me to post here. I'm free to stop posting at anytime. There are plenty of places I do my posting.

    I agree with every statement.

  2. then you should have deleted that entire hilary post.

Who knows, someone here might admire hilary.

    Same with abramoff

Same with any other thread that talks about public figures in a negative light.

If you want the political forums to only highlight positive aspects of political figures, then please state it as such.

If that is the case, then I will go on record to state that I admire people such that the poster gets a warning. I expect the same behavior from you on those posters by giving them warnings as well.

  3. Here's what I've been warned for:

"Sure, I bash Bush for coming off like a complete moronic bafoon, but that's not the reason I think he's the worst president in US history."

Because I make fun of the president in a political forum. DOH.

    QUOTE

Soul's not entirely incorrect. His version of a "long while" might be 2 years. Some say that perception of the age of things is sometimes defined in your brain as something that is in relation to your mental age.

e.g., 5 years may be a long time when you are 10, because it is basically half your life. But when you are 50, 5 years doesn't seem like a long time because in totality, it's really only 10% of what you lived already.

I don't know where this one came from....weird.

  4. Wasn't it like 2 years ago where there were sweatshops found to be used by the fashion industry where they took illegal immigrants, paid them like 40 cents and hour and made them work 20 hours a day?

What I also don't get is the "typical" distrust of big government by republicans, but they support big business. One and the same in my book. Gov't is just another big business.

Not that this applies to the current republican thinking. Based on recent events, it seems teh republicans are for bigger government than the democrats.

Republicans - Want bigger government because they view each American as a potential terrorist, therefore must be monitored, controlled and forced into submission to do the will of the government.

Democrats - Want bigger government because they think every American is a dim perch and feel they need to handhold every individual through life.

  5. but if the place is in question of being shut down for our little comments, I must say that our comments are no more insulting than the one that started this thread.

lol. Definitely true. But back on topic.

This place is cleaner than most political forums. Is it as clean as can be? Nope. Will it ever? I doubt it. Politics is a very divisive topic in general. Long time friends end up hating each other over politics. If the expectation is that somehow, politics be discussed in only a constructive and un-biased way without emotion or personal attachment, then I would say that it is unrealistic and that you should shut this place down.

  6. Technically this missile was fired from a country hostile to the US and it landed on american soil. If this had happened during the cold war who knows what would have happened, since it would technicaly be considered a hostile act or act of war. The fact that N. Korean missiles aparrently dont make it to their targets in one peice is good for us. Though they are far more accurate than a SCUD! :D

We're in another "cold war" now. Everyone read the history books! The same US gov't mistakes will be repeated again. It's already started. =)

  7. So, let me ask this.

Would you like to share a 12x12 dorm room(not sure of exact size of the rooms these days) with someone who is lame? Or do you not see where this could cause problems?

I am not cute enough for a girl to want to start anything with me so I am sure lame guys are way out of my league(sorry for the stereotype but a least it is a good one =) ). Then again in the military I would have to bathe and shave so maybe a slight chance.

As far as gays in the military, lame women should be high priority. Look at the absurd amount of women that just happen to get pregnant in the military. After they get pregnant they leave and never come back. It is not like a minor wound where they are out for a little while. They had a job and now we are missing a person to fill that job slot.

As far as lame men in the military maybe one day we will be able to look back at this situation and laugh at how stupid we used to be. It is clear that society is not ready to accept lame people yet. It is a harsh truth but a reality at the moment. How many lame pro-athletes can you name? The don’t ask don’t tell policy is probably the best route for gays in the military until we can teach future generations to not discriminate against gays. With the pace we are going with discrimination against minorities and women. I bet it is going to be quite a while before gays are accepted as equals. Homosexuality tends to make men uncomfortable during this era and for people protecting my country I would not want part of their mind always occupied about a lame man sitting next to him in a foxhole. It is not fair for the lame man to live a life of lies but it is also not fair to put him in a place where people fear him.

Meth is the new drug epidemic; don’t believe that it is just limited to gays because so many have a problem with it. The fact that it is so easy to make and acquire should scare the crap out of any parent.

Uhoh...Dr Drunk has made it over here! Eeeek! Watch out!

Drunk, that was probably the most eloquent way of summarizing today's situation and also of supporting the "don't ask don't tell" policy.

Homosexuality tends to make men uncomfortable during this era and for people protecting my country I would not want part of their mind always occupied about a lame man sitting next to him in a foxhole. It is not fair for the lame man to live a life of lies but it is also not fair to put him in a place where people fear him.

That is probably the most insightful I've heard to date. Your stance has nothing to do with the lame issue. It has to do with the miitary and the job of men being in the military and reducing stress and distraction. And you're right, given this day and age of men feeling uncomfortable, distracted and or stressed being with lame men, this is probably the best we can do when it comes to military policy....for now.

GREAT first post in these forums. Long live DOH!

  8. How many times has Sheehan been arrested in the last yr??? Maybe that had something to do with it..

What does that have to do with getting arrested for "breaking tradition"? The mere fact that an apology was written and published by the officers shows that they admit screwing up. But it doesn't cover the fact that two offenses, if u want to call it that, were handled in two completely different ways.

Anyways, it doesn't matter. A wrongful arrest suit is under way and based on the evidence, it is fully warranted.

  9. I don't think the Sunni demands are outrageous outside of the following:

    - Release of all prisoners at prisons run by the Iraqi government

    - Release of all prisoners in the prisons run by multi-national forces, "especially women"

Release should depend on due process and the terms for why they were imprisoned in the first place. If wifes were arrested for their husbands actions, I'd call for an immediate release as well.

    http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/B65...4014EF1B3A8.htm

Armed groups in the Palestinian territories have threatened to attack Danish, French and Norwegian nationals after cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad appeared in European newspapers.

Two militants groups released a joint statement on Thursday that said: "All nationals and those who work in the diplomatic corps of these countries can be considered targets of the Popular Resistance Committee and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades."

not sure if you heard about this, but a lot of nations released cartoons of muhammad and it really made a lot of muslims angry. evidently they were insulting and papers continued to release them quickly after one another. this is pretty big, libya closed its embassy in denmark over the matter and some gulf states have barred danish products because of hte PM's refusal to act because he said "he can't do anything about satire". Saudi Arabia has done the same thing. Danish muslims have denounced the newspaper and are angry. In fact, the whole muslim world is angry.

not a good step to settle the notice of the west against the middle east islam

I agree with the Danish government not acting on "satire". Freedom of press is a great thing. But it can sometimes lead to bad results. Should it be banned? Nope. I think the publications should have thought twice about releasing it though. It was a mistake of judgement...not a question of legality.

  10. Hmm. Well, I dunno myself. Was it the local police who did the arresting / detaining / whatever? Secret Service? I'm also confused: Is this other person in question (Mrs. Young?) also protesting the same thing as Mrs. Sheehan? Wasn't Young a Congressman's wife? I mean, that right there is going to change things just because (fair, no, but let's be honest).

Furthermore, who wears a t-shirt to the SOTU address? Personally, that seems rude. Did she have the right? Probably. That seems like a horrible forum for such a display, however, and this is an event of regalia and presidential protocol, couldn't she have put on a sport coat or whatever the female equivalent is for the speech and did her little shirt-wearing stunt before and after?

But perhaps that makes me a right-winger.

I'm not going to argue the appropriateness of the outfit but rather the legality. Sure, you can wear a t-shirt to the prom...but would you really want to? So yeah, maybe it wasn't the best place for the display, but lets be real...should they have been arrested? Wait..only one was arrested.

  11. I'd believe it if the screwup was handled in the same manner for both people. They were not. It's just politics again. Basically just adding to the spitting contest across the aisle.

  12. I just selectively respond. I have no need to provide more than 1 sentence responses to anyone who's opinions that are so off base that they don't require any more thought in a response.

But I do enjoy debating with Chief, who I consider a very strong republican who portraits his viewpoints very elegantly...however they may differ from my views.

Our latest debate regarding gays in the military seemed to be more debate than confrontation. It has made me frequent the site a little more. When the tired old combative views become prevalent once again (which I'm sure it will), I'm sure I'll stop coming by for a while.

There are better things to do.

  13. DJ- I don't believe gays have gotten anywhere near the type of treatment that blacks did back in the day. And I would bet that if you asked a black person about it. They would tell you the same.

Right, but that wasn't the point of my argument. The point was that it is the same type of thing going on as compared to blacks, women, minorities in general. Maybe not to the same degree as the history of black americans but along the same vein of thought and process. The ramifications are sitting in the same soil.
