  1. If you have a decent computer (something with tech from the past 3 years or so) and connection (which most have), crank them up to 100 each, with 30000 rate. Back off slightly if you're seeing issues or adjust your graphics settings down. Too low of settings will also not "feel" right.

I've been tempted to force a min/max updaterate of like 70 to 80 as it seems when people's rates are all about the same, the servers play fantastic. Dunno if it's with the netcode or what. I've experimented with it while playing with good results, but never have really taken the time to test.

  2. Oh, these have to make it onto the walls of my new office. :)

Now I just gotta pick a couple and find decent prices for metal frames.

    This one for sure:

These are the two I'm trying to pick between as the 2nd:

    and

Their framed stuff is $110. I'm betting I could find a frame much cheaper.

  3. This is one instance where he should set up a website, collect donations with paypal, then use them to hire a lawyer to make the town miserable. :)

  4. Guessing it has to do with this:

Server move Aug 12 2006 07:35:46 AM PT Your server was moved from machine chicago-quad26-o-5 to chicago-quad30.

Not sure why the move. Doesn't look like any of our guys got in there and messed with it. I'm just getting back in town.

So, prolly tomorrow it'll go back up when server is empty.

  5. The link works for me using IE7 beta. You've probably done this but just to make sure, have you emptied your cache?

Yes, by all accounts I believe it has nothing to do with my setup (emptied cache, pinged from cmd, direct modem connect and several other things). I've got 3 separate computers, and none of them can access the page. Can only access it if I type the IP in the address bar.

  6. Cheap way to advertise your business.. :)

lol!!! Doubt I'd get much business from around here!

Ok. I switched my IP address (as you forum admins can see), and I still can't connect.

When I go to http://www.dnsstuff.com it now says I'm located near Loxahatchee, Florida. With my other IP, it was saying Herndon, Virginia. No idea.

    This is the strangest thing.

This is all I see when I click on the link in this post:

  7. So I go to connect to my website, http://www.jdrlaw.com , yesterday morning to check stats. "Server not found" error. Try a few more times to connect, same error. Had to be in court, so I loaded pingplotter and let it go (pinging the IP, not the domain name).

Came back to a hop with 100% packet loss. At this point, I typed the IP for the site in the address bar, and up popped the site. Strange. The domain name was still not working. Called my wife to check from her office, and the domain name worked. Site was fine for her. It was apparently fine also for the 100+ visitors I had.

Contacted Godaddy about it, their response was that everything was fine and that I should contact the ISP. The site showed up for them.

Contacted roadrunner tech support. Typical unplug this, wait, retry stuff. They ran some "tests" and said everything was fine.

I've got no problem connecting to any other sites, but can only access my own now via a proxy. What seems strange is that the only way I can connect to my site is thru the IP. Which should rule out a routing issue.

I re-contacted Godaddy today and they tried everything they could to no avail. Some guy with a fancy title even checked into it.

Wondering if anyone else has run into this, and what possible cause there could be. Godaddy and Roadrunner both say everything is fine. :bang:

  8. Hey, Welcome!

BTW, what server were you on, or do you frequent? There's a thread in our private cellars about "Caught being good", and some unsolicited comments like this should be a "job well done" to the admins there.

Anyway, welcome, Lunk's got the tab for the first round.

EDIT: I'm clueless to where I clicked. :biglaugha:

    Carry on.

  9. Mythbusters is a great show. Those guys have a lot of ingenuity.

Episode 56 summary: the whirlpool they created spun Adam around a lot and woulda sucked him under if he didn't have something to hold on to. He eventually puked in the water from spinning, which ended the testing.

  10. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I really think I'm leaning toward Bestbuy, just due to the service I've received locally b/w BB and CC.

The $200 card comes from points I've earned on a credit card over many years. There are, of course, other rewards the wife is more interested in. :) Meaning I may not use that reward. Not really a big deal to me.

I'm scheduled to move into an office across from the courthouse on 9/1 and have started marketing quite a bit. So, I'm looking to allocate funds from the next few clients to equipment like this. So I'm thinking "back to school" sales should be great. I checked Staples today for prices and really felt they were a rip-off.
