Insults and attacks asside, I do get it. What I see though is justification for brutal behavior based on culture which to me in nonsense. You justify it based on culture. I believe it is wrong regardless and this goes for Islamic treatment of women and things long past here in the U.S.
To add to this, those women in that culture also believe it is wrong. The women most benefit from this and a case in point is the huge desire of women to be involved in politics in Iraq and Aphganistan and the ability to attend school again in Aphganistan. So to say it is only my culture is wrong.
there was no country that invaded that forced the US to give minorites the same rights as whites
there was no invasion that forced the US to have equal rights for women and men
forcing culture on someone or a group of people will never work
unless change comes from within and the people actually believe in it iraq or afghanistan will surely fail and be reduced to chaos as soon as the US leaves (we cant stay forever?)
their culture is violent but thats THEIR CULTURE
to them our culture is sickening (porn, pre-marital sex, rock music, seperation of church and state, people who torture prisioners illegaly get only 10 years in prision, etc etc)
our culture was so sickening to them they blew up two towers on 9/11 to try and hurt it as much as possible
surely we have not succumb to such hate for their society like they have for ours?
are we not better than that (america)?

this guy got 10 years (which i think i pretty weak) for his acts
Graner was accused of stacking naked prisoners in a human pyramid and later ordering them to ******** while other soldiers took photographs. He also allegedly punched one man in the head hard enough to knock him out, and struck an injured prisoner with a collapsible metal stick.Graner described himself as a by-the-book prison guard corrupted by superiors who ordered him to physically mistreat and sexually humiliate detainees. He said he initially resisted pressure to mistreat prisoners, but his Army superiors made it clear to him that he was expected to obey the commands of the military and civilian intelligence agents who ran his part of Abu Ghraib.
Graner said a lieutenant in his unit told him: "If [military intelligence] asks you to do this, it needs to be done. They're in charge, follow their orders."
Defense lawyer Guy Womack said his client and the six other Abu Ghraib guards charged with abuses were being scapegoated, but added that he thought the jury did its job well.i highly doubt that anyone of his superiors will be charged
i havent read anything where they have even been questioned but this is a amazing case of scapegoating...if someone ordered these prision gaurds to do this it is no worse than actually doing these horrible attacks
Many Iraqis reacted angrily yesterday to news that Graner had been sentenced to 10 years in jail for his role in prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib, saying he should have faced harsher punishment."It's too little. This isn't justice," trader Ali Ahmed, 23, said of Graner's sentence.
there we go again winning over the iraqi people
these prision gaurds deserve the full sentence
i still think the most important part in these trials is that no commanding officer has been sent to jail or court maritaled...all of the prison gaurds continually say that it was ordered for them to do these acts
do you think that this event will just blow over?

Ethnocentrism: The belief that the values, practices, and general social set-up of one's own native culture are superior to all others. Such a view tends to justify exploitation by more militant societies.
this is a good definition of what american is viewed as today by the rest of the world
our belief that democracy is better than anything else is exactly like thinking that our native culture is superior to all others
people in the middle east may not think that democracy is the best form of government... what gives america the right to decide what is best for the rest of the world?

Can you please remove this comment Huhuh?? It is nothing but a comment to inflame a situation and bring a retaliatory comment in return.
Thanks,

Without the other reasons we would not have invaded is my opinion and, since there were plenty of other reasons, it is a justifiable opinion. We did not go to war on WMD alone and we do not know if we would have, nor will we ever know this answer.
without the WMD reason would we have gone to war with iraq?
if you think we still would of gone to war than the other reasons were important
if you dont think we would of invaded without "knowledge" of WMD's than the other reasons are not really as important becuase WMD's was the reason "that pushed us" to invade

Not with the anti-americanism and hatred that flows over there. This was before 9-11 now mind you. There were issues of Military personnel being beaten, robbed, even killed near the base by the populace and this wasn't even the most extreme areas of the Muslim Culture. This is Bah'Rain (sp) which no longer houses military families. I got to visit many areas around there. We were always warned to never be alone over there and the buddy rule was strictly enforced due to the extreme hatred of Americans. There are those over there that are not extremists but a large majority of them are and they would do whatever they could to get their hands on some Americans and this was before 9-11.
the middle east's hatred for america is like america's hatred for communism during the cold war...they dont hate us personally, just the ideals that comes along with america (democracy, seperation of church and state, etc etc)
As to the insinuation - I think it was a fair extrapolation when someone states that a large percentage of muslims are fanatics and these fanatics need to be hunted down and killed.soul hit the nail on the head
**edit** by me
The majority of them are not extremists. However, it is a culture that is more tolerant of violence and violent acts especially against women and this is perceived as extremist or not the norm.and who gets to decide what is the norm?...noone does
many people went against the "norm"...martin luther king, albert enistien, even Jesus
