  1. 1. It simply would not get enough traffic to get full games unless something was coordinated.  You would have partial 12/20 or 5/20 player games most of the time because not everyone who would visit the server would have the campaign.  Your average person who gets kicked from the server for not having the campaign will move on elsewhere.

    2. Custom campaigns are unstable in a 10v10 environment as it is.  Lots of them end up crashing the server partway through.

    3. Too many custom campaigns in one person's workshop subscription list (or have downloaded at once) cause instabilities client-side.  Meaning broken models/textures and crashing with conflicting custom campaigns.

  2. Just so you guys know, I have final say as far as what I consider to be in each class's best balancing interest....since I am...you know, the author of the mod and all... /smugness

  3. Be lucky you guys get points for death charges at all.  Had to write a whole thing where it actually detects death charges and awards points properly.  Remember when it didn't at all?

Hunters have been nerfed.  You guys got your wish.  What more do you want?

  4. (jackie, can you put invisible props in the walls of the map to stop ceiling pouncing? or maybe normal props, at that distance they wouldnt render for survivors aniway)

Not gonna happen. If I was going to do something like that, do you know how LONG that would take?

while on the topic, death charges should be rawarded 3 or 2 more points. they also require a lot of skill, teamwork or dumb luck.

A death charge is a kill. You get awarded 5 points for killing Survivors. This has never been different ever and I feel should stay that way. Don't really see the skill behind death charging someone obliviously walking front of you or charging a Smoker's victim off a pier.

for the life of me I dont understand why does a hunter get some many points for a pounce when you only get 5 for a death charge

i dont get any for a long smoke or a charger doesnt get any for a long charge.

Or change it so EVERY SI gets a tank when they get their achievement.

It seems like only the hunters think its too low.

Because Hunters get points proportional to the amount of damage they deal in that attack. It would make no sense to me to give Hunters 1 point no matter how much of a damage pounce they do. No other SI has an ability like that...which makes them special.  If they all had something like that, I don't think this thread would exist.

  5. Keep in mind that this change to the Hunter is not going to be permanent.  Smoker's and Jockey's points per damage tick was increased as well.

All this is a "workshop" period.

  6. Damage SI do will never change as far as I'm concerned.  The only thing I changed was increasing the amount of damage Smokers and Jockeys do by 1 point of damage per tick and that was years ago.

  7. I want to just say this.  This whole conversation is going no where, and just annoying both sides of the spat.  Something was done to adjust the hunter, though obviously you don't agree with it Jackie.  Just lock this conversation and let's see what the adjustments do to game play.

Thing is though no matter how much it's nerfed, it won't stop people from complaining about Hunters.

  8.

I could nerf it into oblivion if you guys truly want that.  Whatever makes people whine less about it.

Unfortunately it won't stop due to poor survivor play blamed on infected.

I know, I was being sarcastic, lol.

  9. I'm going to do this:

Temporarily nerf the Hunter by an undocumented amount (only I will know what it is unless you do the maths) and see people's reaction to it.

  10.

I have made my views on this apparent prior to this thread.
If there is to more nerf'n I ask again for a reasonable suggestion. Please keep in mind 12.5 was not always the points awarded from a 25dp. It was 12, and as minuscule as that may seem, someone had to think that 12 wasn't enough.

It increased from 12 to 12.5 because of the addition to allowing for float points instead of just whole numbers.  Was also in the addition to assist points for Survivors.  I honestly think that the Hunter nerf is solid and doesn't cripple the class too much as far as point earning goes.  Yes, Smokers/Jockeys are still the gimped point earners, but they are also the most vulnerable.  I'm still trying to think up a good balance for one, or both.

Also, regarding the whole invisible walls thing is how brushes are handled.  A textured brush is the same as a nodraw brush (not textured) and thus gets treated the same way as far as collision goes...thus allows for Hunters to pounce off of them.  Same with ceilings.  No way is no way to combat it either.  The more a Hunter is pouncing around, the more exposed they are thus the more of a target they become with their loud pouncing sound.  Every SI class has a situational benefit to their attacks...it's just that Hunters have the most out of every other one.  Every outdoor area is a hazard for players vs Hunters because they could pounce in from anywhere.  Other SI really only have corners they can pop out from, thus limiting their situational asset.  Teamwork also has to be utilized more for other SI because you have to time attacks well, whereas Hunters can just be a lone-wolf since they're putting themselves the furthest away from their target.  The teamwork factor I see with Hunters is that if they're chain pouncing a target, it requires teamwork from both sides.  Survivors have to guard the target whereas the Infected have to distract them from picking off incoming SI.  Sure, Hunters can get a Tank the fastest, but I view it hugely as a risk/reward scenario.

  11.

If you guys are going to be arguing over this

I'm not arguing. I simply am trying to gain some sort of insight as to what they feel the problem is.

I am also confused. Are any of these post being directed to me? Lol. No one is quoting me or saying Gandalf ?.?

Nah, not referring to you or anyone directly in the topic.  The overall vibe I've been getting from this topic was "argument".

I don't want to "break" a SI by a heavy nerf because people want it to be.  I think increasing the divisor in which points are awarded for Hunters is a good start.  I didn't want to cut it off too much, but a 10  vs a 12.5 point award for a 25dp is a good start.  Smokers might get their divisor reduced (currently it's damage/8.3) as with Jockeys.  Who knows, but if people think the system is in that big of a need for an adjustment, it may just need one.

  12. Point abusers?  Is that a new meta that was wasn't brought to my attention?

This whole point debate blame is going to fall on me.  I came up with trying to make it so SI get points based on the damage they do/skill involved.  If you guys are going to be arguing over this, argue with the fact that it's something I need to change.  Just don't start to get hostile with each other over something I implemented.  Don't start singling players out and saying, "you guys are the reason why newer players can't have fun" or the fact a certain core group of players are some of the few that can achieve getting consistent 25 damage pounces and can buy Tanks earlier than you can.

I'll think of a way to balance stuff out.  Just please don't go arguing with each other and start placing people on "sides".  Again, most of this just feels like "I don't like how this mechanic of does this, but not offering a suggestion on a possible solution that benefits everyone".

  13. . Honestly @Jackie *FOR GOD'S SAKE! Give the smoker more points for pulls." It is an ongoing joke of a class. If they won't receive any modifications *as to keep the server vanilla* at least give them more points. I personally feel like it wouldn't be a game breaker. As to how much or if it will even happen. That is for you to decide.

I could do that. I'm open for adjusting it. I've never been keen on using smokers when playing, but I'll try to tweak a good balance.

  14. Update:

-With various amounts of feedback regarding Hunters, damage pounce points will now award points from the "formula" (Damage/2) to the new one (Damage/2.5).  Instead of a 25 damage pounce awarding 12.5 points, they will now award 10 points following the new multiplier.

Still going to workshop this and see how it goes.

  15. I've haven't been entirely convinced by what I've seen.  I've always been the type of player who targets specific SI instead of all of them...namely Hunters, Boomers, and Smokers.  I want to say Deadlock does the same, unless he hears them spawn...and they do spawn in loudly (minus the Hunter).  Crosshair placement is also inconsistent.  Sometimes it waves over an unseen SI player, sometimes it's off by a bit.  From the clips I've seen, Deadlock scans his surroundings much more than your average player, from one common pounce location to another common rocket boom location...or just sits staring at an area longer than not...and coincidentally a SI player is spawned in that location.  This game is so old and overplayed now that there is no uncommon spawn spot anymore.  Players who know what to look for will find it.  It's a matter of catching people off guard now and with certain people, it's very tough to do.

So yeah, again, not entirely convinced from the evidence provided.  I just don't consider my input to be very relevant since I haven't shown that relevance on the server the last several months...and my time playing has been minimal at best.

  16. If your team was fine with it, I don't see anything wrong then.  A lot of the time if and when an admin bans someone, it's a split second decision to make due to how frantic the server can get and how quickly someone who needs a kick/ban can ruin the rest of the team's chances at surviving the level.  The protocol admins are supposed to uphold is if the team is fine with someone legging it to the saferoom, then nothing should happen to the player doing it.  It could be seen as a strategic maneuver, and also as survival...especially if a Hunter is waiting outside the room for you.
