  1.

Our servers are welcome to all players, regardless of skill level or how new they are.  I would encourage all to help new players, but if you don't want to send them points or help them, that is your choice.  Just don't be mean to them.  If you think the servers should only be for experienced players, then I suggest you play elsewhere or only play when the server is full of "regulars".

every server should welcome new people however its not just regulars that have to make this happen its also admins as well. like last night i called this guy out for griefing. going back up the escalator on dead center in the mall and just standing there he said he didnt know the map yet he knew the point system and everything else.  did he start playin correctly yes.  did he seem like he knew the map after i called him out on it... yes.  but i might as well be mute if someone new comes in and doesn't know the map and im like "this way name" 5X and that person still doesn't understand where to go.

All we're asking is for members to try. Admins should already be helping and teaching. If you try a few times and they don't respond, that's unfortunate for them, but we'll never know if we don't give it a shot.

  2. I'm all for trying to help out new players in the server, especially when they ask for help using !buy, !jointeam when stuck in spec, etc.. After reading the post though, I'll keep what you said in mind when there is a new player that's incapped or something. Wouldn't want a potential cool member/admin to never return to these servers again just because that new player was treated unfairly :/

Thanks for this Carlos. Now let's teach you binds and !laser :)

  3. If anything admins are the ones who try to tell people what to do and how to play, i don't even do this anymore I really don't even know why you made this thread because people are nicer, before if you didn't spit and die or played bad as tank, people would call you out. L4d is a dying game and has very few new players, and I think the people on the server realize this, so just play and stop crying.

You seem to think this post is directed towards you. It's not. I've heard plenty of players being rude and unhelpful lately. I'm not 100% innocent in this, but I'm usually getting on the case of a member who should know when to come back and help or not to go too far ahead.

Just this weekend, new player, gets incapped. Nobody on his team even attempts to tell him how to use points, they just stare at him as he's dying. When asked why nobody was helping him, the response I got was saying he should learn the game before he learned the buy system. I should have banned the player that said that, as that's not what GC is about.

What tainted posted was a simple reminder of the expectations we hold for our members and admins. It's a shame that this type of post is even needed.

  4. People have the right to get mad at someone who is standing in spit, not spawning, and going backwards. In the past these people got permabanned, why? because its griefing. It makes sense to get mad at griefers, just like people get mad at rushers. They aren't new ive checked their hours and usually its 300+, so my only conclusion is they are griefing.

You missed the whole point of this post.

Get mad all you want, just keep your mouth shut. Let the admins handle things. If there's not an admin on, it doesn't give anybody the right to be a dick. Get a demo, send it in.

You might be getting mad at a griefer, yeah, but you may also be scaring away somebody that could become a regular and member someday. I'll let you in on a secret - no new players means no new members. No new members means no income for GC. No income for GC will eventually lead to no more GC.

  5. Sorry man. I am not sure how to go about getting one of your hops looked at. Maybe somebody around might, doesn't hurt to hope.

  6. Thought about this a bit and now I don't know that it'd even be possible. With sourcemod, there are certain flags that allow a player access to server commands.

For instance - members have flags for reserve slot and member/admin chat. Admins have a flag allowing root access.

Now, people can have a flag to start votes, but once that vote passes I'm not sure if the following command to skip could be accessible without admin privileges.

It's not a bad idea, I'm just not sure how feasible it is.

    Trace complete.

and I very rarely feel any lag. The servers are on a pretty decent VDS, which I've never seen go above 25% CPU / memory usage even when full. And yes, they are on NFO. I haven't seen anything about server DDOS lately from NFO either.

  8. I think its more delayed now because before you could just spam it and it would heal you, now it will usually says you can't heal when dead.

I think it's the accidental rebuy protection not allowing you to !heal again until three seconds have passed. JC would have to confirm.

  9. That's really strange. Then again most of you guys have much more play time than me, probably why I've yet to see it.

Regardless, it's unfortunate that we can't do anything to fix it, and it'd be very hard to enforce it as a rule if it can accidentally happen. Hell, I know I've accidentally started the round through the door.

  10. At first I thought he was referring to the glitched doors that JC mentioned, but I think you're right Peanut. I've never seen a survivor spawn close enough to "leave" the saferoom allowing SI to spawn before the countdown is over.
