  1. fixed links, but dont test them...

    i just remembered that tank challenge does NOT have versus and tanks playground would require some heavy coding on the server to actualy make it 10 survivors vs 10 tanks. IIRC in versus it just gives 1 tank to an infected and the rest spawn as SI.

     

    still a cool shorter game for those willing to try them in 4vs4

    17-18 people in the game, my max ping was 300 something (my average is 200-220)

    lag spike; i got a short freeze and was a bit behind the game, others reported having heavy lag.

     

    map was dead air.

  3. last saturday night we were playing carnival whit all menbers and i sugested(begged) that we played a custom so we skiped the finale and switched to warcelona (thanks meng!) sadly, the most players we ever got on the server was 11, people tried to conect to the server several times but they kept getting disconected.

    so we decided to not play it and instead do mercy+vip+pathing. fun times... for the first team to go hahaha

     

     

    aniway, the point of this thread that everyone need to test some things before playing them online.

     

    -play the map on your own(online), all of it. do it on easy so you can go trough it faster

    -remenber that warcelona is a HUGE clutered map if you have a crappy pc you will likely crash.

    -the map has its own replacements for either the gnome or the cola in the form of a huge lamb leg found in the first map.

    -the map also has a reskin for some zombies (soccer shirts) if you have addons for that, test/deactivate them. same for the gnome/cola.

    -the second or third map has a small minecraft easter egg area, that you cant see in spec.

    -if everything fails, turn off all addons and restart the game.

     

    if anyone can think of something else that could be causing issues, post it.

     

    here is the map in 1 just file if the workshop version keeps giving you issues, try this one.

    all you have to do is unzip it and place it in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons


    btw, on the workshop page for the map i noticed someone recently wrote they had this problem:
    File missions/warcelona.txt collides in VPKs:

    Warcelona_part3

     

    has anyone that plays the worshop version gotten this problem? i'd test it myself but my internet is slow and the download would take way too long.

  4. i though it was just my internet conetion getting worse, but it seems it isnt just me.

     

    this last month i've been getting those ugly freezes where you can move super fast around the map and more "lost conetion" messagues than i ever have on the servers.

    i also been reading more "anyone else having lag?" on the game chat as well.

    On another issue with hunters, I've seen people just bounce around for an entire map without doing anything - STOP  IT.
     

     

    i've done that, not for an entire map, but i try to do it for as long as i can to be a distraction, litle less than half of the time i distract people long enough for someone to get a boom on the sketters. the other half i get AWP'd before my fith jump.

    What if the game is already won or lost and still want to play the finale to use as practice, is it bad in such case?

    lost finales(whit mostly menbers/regulars) are mostly used for fooling around aniways.

    like seeing how long you can go on your own before you get grabed by a SI lol

    "Shoot the tongue before my health goes down." Oh boy! You don't want that.

    If teammates don't shoot the tongue and they wait for you to get incapped in mid-air before shooting it, then you'll be able to survive the fall.

  8. that map looks freaking great.

    great use of scripted SI spawning too.

     

     

    as for feedback:

    -you have a partner, so play in a harder dificulty. will make the video seem less like a walk in the park and more like an actual videogame

    -while walking around showing the map is great, try to play whit a bit more strategy. dont wander off too far by yourself, stand against a wall when theres a horde, crouch so your teammates can shoot over you, take cover when you hear the special infected, etc...

    -avoid friendly fire, or if thats too hard(it is for me...) deactivate it trough console comands. kinda makes you look like a goof when you are shooting your own teammates.

    -the transition effect betwen what you and the other guy are seeing is kinda anoying at 60fps...

     

    -for better showcasing of the map you could bind/get third person camera, it requires to have some minimal know-how of game thinkering tho. (can cause some viewing isues in indoors eviorements.)

    -also, you could use some skins for the survivors, there are some great clothes swaps out there that arent completly mood breaking. variety makes the game look better, like:

    overall, try harder when playing, the talking/dialoguing is fine, but you guys fool around too much while playing

    last night on server 2, one team kept getting new people while the other was full of regulars and dealock, we started to buy automatic witches and almost all of them apearead in the same room:

    what about halving the exp when cold, and then halving it again when freezing?

    I'm also thinking about getting rid of random battles and making every enemy encounter something you "bump" into.

  13. i interacted whit the wagon at some point but it didnt say anything about going back to the town, i just though it would be usefull later.

     

     

     

    Your party member just scolds you for going some place you're not supposed to go

    thankfully i didnt went there, i hate when an rpg tells me "you canot go to that interesting looking place!" its worse than pointless invisible walls in fps's!

     

     

     

    . Found out that you had to be ON TOP of the boards to use it

    oooh, yeah that souds like a likely to happen bug, i noticed i could walk on some props.

     

    what i meant to say about the patch of herbs is that i didnt use it because i though it would only refill hp, had i known that it refilled mp as well i would had used it sooner.

    i liked the puns, but ironicaly the funnier pun for me was the one about the dried and dead leaves haha

     

    the final boss fights were easy for me as i had gotten to level 10 by then and i just kept spaming ice arrow to keep him frozen

    (might want to make him more resitant to that, or add 2 crimsons alongside him for extra stress, or both haha)
    the one time he managed to hit me he took a decent amount of hp off of us, that and the danm timer had me inmersed, so yeah it was easy, but definetly fun!

     

     

     

    I'll try to find a place for the two of you in game that's more than just a cameo

    neat!, my dialogue will likely be full of typos tho, hahaha

     

     

     

     

     

    . I wanted players to use valuable time opening those First Aid Boxes and whatnot too.

    now that you say it, when the boss shot trough the roof i was short on mp and thinking it  would be game over again, did curse myself for not noticing that it wouldnt be that easy to get out.

     

     

     

    some characters will die in this game.

    thats great actualy, considering the theme of game, it is a nice trope subversion.

     

     

     

    Man, you were way over-leveled for that part of the game. I did want to make the mansion a place TO level up your characters a few times though.

    in the ice cave, i kept returning to the torches whit the whistle when i figured out the skating puzles, fighting the ice spirit and 2 spiders while  frozen was brutal, peanut died several times. and in the maze section, i got lost on my way to the first torch. that might be why i leveled up so much. and i take it you can't make the enemies "level up" along side the player?

     

     

     

     

    one last thing, i carried the elder's letter the whole game, wasnt johny suposed to read that or something?

  14. yup, by pure chance. i weirdly update equipent in the first few towns in any rpg games.

    you should said in the first post that shift makes the game/character run faster

     

    finished the game so have more notes:

     

    the game has a day/night cicle?

    nvm, entering the dog fight area from the right makes that section of the map daytime.

    also, in the same area the patch of green herbs says it will refill you hp, but it also refills mp. i avoided using them for some time.

    the change to the save system is apreciated, the variety makes the game more fun.

     

    so crashx went wesker/mengele?

     

    this dialogues... hahaha
    the mansion section of the game definetly needs a map or some hand-holding as to where go next.

    johny double dagger normal attack is way more powerfull than the dagger trow, is it because i gave him the fire thing the rat gave me?

     

    about that 4 boulders puzzle, is the grey rock suposed to older than the brown one?

     

    interacting whit the statue in the crypt after beating the crimsom head pt1 repeats the scene.

     

    left crash behind, this is getting better!

    tried killing all the zombies that came out of the wall, took down about 7 of them before realizing they would not stop coming in.
    goddanm safetty mechanism! goddanm this backtracking, i keep getting lost/going in circles.
    danm, did not expect that twist. so san is the bad guy? s**t, this plot is way better than i expected

     

    might want to make a save point/herb patch instead of putting so many medkits in that last hallway. at least untill the next expansion to the game.

    kidding aside... f***,  didnt expect that ending D:

     

    finished the game in 6 hours(not counting 2 game overs) and at level 10/10/10

     

     

    a few things i didnt do;

    check all the rooms in the ice cave.

    when going out of the spawn town, i went straight south to the cave, but i remenber there being a road to the right, what was there?

    i regreat never using the alcohol.

    after i got the ermengecy axe (plox, turn it into a weapon after its used) i went to the boarded up room, but i couldnt interact whit the door. :/

    i tried backtracking from my last save point, but after going up the elevator, the door to the lobby of the mansion just reloads the previous room.

     

    overall the game was fun, the most boring part (aside from going around the town doing stuff) was the first cave, it kinda feels lackluster compared to the rest of the dungeons. duno how it could be improved tho.

    i did, going out of the house the rat sort of blinked out of the green for a moment. thats how i noticed it.

  16. also some notes and thoughs i wrote down while playing:
     


    ...but none of the houses have a door
    so thats how ddos atacks work?, "peanut was bred for magic" lel.
    nice overworld music, cant pick up the pickaxe as a weapon, i want my money back.

     

    the boulder puzle was ok, nice troll dance music, xkrieg rekt-ed me hard.

    that bridge... weres architect when you need him.

     

    the body heat mechanic is quite clever. F***ING ICE CAVE, this s**t is too hard! the ice cave is actualy pretty challenging and fun, almost went trough all my items on my search of the first torch. after that it became a bit more easy. the second section of the cave was just as brutal as the first. ice skating puzles are great, having monster bother you midaway is anoying as hell tho.

     

    the switch to resident evil vibe is great.

    the spikes hallway was buggy, i took the key from below and escaped the spikes but i still died.

    although very spooky, the mansion has been way too easy so far. there shold be 2/3 zombies per fight (or they should be harder to beat), and at levels 9/9/8 the dog fights were too easy(that or i stayed too long in the ice cave), i havent even used any of the herbs yet.

     

    -is the mansion section exact copy of RE?
    -the succes music in the zombie fights is kinda mood breaking.
    -body heat should fill a bit faster to save some time.
