  1. Hey NOFX

where did u get your 2500+ and when?

Im getting my brother one for christmas and i wanna know if yours lets you change the multiplier

All the new bartons made after week 34 supposedly are multi locked

But it doesnt really matter cause the barton 2500+ has a multi of 11 so u can still take it to 2200Mhz easy

Just wanted to inquire bout ur purchase and the multiplier

What kinda cooling did u say u had?

  2. Its a cake walk to overclock the AMD 2500+

if you use a retail heatsink and have nice cooling in your case(at least 3 80mm fans) then you would be able to overclock that sucker at leat 100 mhz!!

If you invest in a good all copper heatsink and add a nice 80mm fan on top with some good thermal grease then you would be able to get more mhz out of the 2500

and dont be afraid to overclock

just take baby steps and i can help you out if you would like to try it

  3. I like the A7n8X from asus.

But i can really recomend the N-force 2 board from ABIT that i run, the NF7-S ver 2.0.

    Both boards are great!

May i also suggest that you get a Barton 2500+ processor instead of a 2600+.

The performance of both processors is excellent, but I think if u ever decide to have some REAL fun you'll need the 2500+.

Also go with PC-3200 ram if you get a 2500+. This may not seem like it makes since, but trust me if u get a 2500+ with two sticks of pc-3200 ram to run dual channel on a ABIT or Asus board you will be able to get your money's worth!!!!

    :D

Oh and if you do get a 2500 and two sticks of 3200 you had better overclock since thats what Asus and ABIT boards are ready for!!!

  4. This reason why a 256mb Radeon is not currently faster than a 128mb card is becuase all the games that are used to benchmark the cards dont use the extra ram. They are only gonna need 128 mb of ram. This is unless u actually use a 9800XY like it supposed to be, with a resoultion higher than 1024x768 with options such as 4xAA and 8xAF turned on. A game like Doom 3 will use the extra ram that a 256mb card has to offer. However, since no public benchmarks exsist you cant determine if the 256mb cards will be faster. Something tells me a 256mb will be faster in Doom 3 though and in HL-2 with quality settings enable. For now though a 9800 128meg card is nothing to complain about. A Geforce 4 card that is only Direct x 8 compliant will not allow you to see HL-2 in all of its visual splender, but it will be fine for an OpenGl game like Doom 3. Nvidia cards are favored to run a little better in Doom 3 too from what I hear, so that will help you out a little.

  5. AHAHAH

over 1000 and it doesnt even come with a heatsink and fan!!!

    WOW

AMD's 1Ghz processor cost 1000 bucks, but that was almost justified since they were the first to break the 1 Ghz barrier.

There really is no reason to pay this much for a processor that performs almost the same as the AMD FX-51(which costs less)

I think the price on the EE will be a lot lower after the holiday season.

So if your crazy enough to spend this on a processor wait till the first of next year.

  6. True Riz my score sux.

When u compare my card to my brother's u will notice that he scores better with less impresive hardware.

The 9600non-pro is a decent card, but its not even as fast as the 8500 that was out 2 years ago.(which may be why it only costs 140 bucks i guess)

Even the 9600pro and the 9600xt are not as fast as the older 9500pro, so it seems ati's mid-low level cards are a little lacking even when compared to their old product lines. Not to mention the fact that they didnt lower prices and did lower performance some.

the 9800xt on the other hand will help me out a little :D

  7. Good choice.

Compusa and Best buy both have the 9800pro 128mb selling at 300 bucks.

    Thats a pretty good deal.

THe 9600 they had at best buy was a 9600se which is slower than the 9600non-pro, 9600pro, and 9600xt.

However 70 bucks is still a good deal for that card. Don't think it came with HL-2, but still a good deal.
