  1. # 1570 "***TAHC***" STEAM_0:1:2537488 17:17 149 0 active

Speedhack and aimbot for sure, others on the server were claiming wallhacks earlier (before he put on his formula one sneakers). TAHC said he knew stuttering john, and that "he knows i don't hack" (exact words). However, he was already cleaning up at the CT spawn when this pic was taken (note the time on the bottom).

This went on for a few rounds, but sorry I didn't get a demo before the map ended (when he left)

  2. I certain couple lines come to mind from the Steam forums.

Firstly, just a reminder of the VAC 2 GOLDEN RULE!

"Here is a very basic bottom line rule about "will VAC ban me" ...

If you do ANYTHING that modifies the executable files (.dll, .exe) Valve supplied to you, you will be banned"

    Q) What if the user contracts a malicious virus - that is not necessarily the user's fault? The .dll and .exe type files tend to be prime targets for viruses. Will I be VAC 2 banned?
Unfortunately, nobody has answered that question yet. I've never had malware problems, but I've seen some impressive work in the process of cleaning other's computers - particularly infections that alter a program's binaries and while allowing the original program to continue functioning, it runs the malware's code at the same time.

Anyhoo, viruses are certainly something I'd get cleaned up as fast as possible - Steam being the least of concerns.

  3. Well, Winnipeg, MB is pretty much smack in the middle of North America, but they still say that it's "the gateway to the west". Even though it would sound like that could be called "midwest", it's not all that close to the midwest. And my internet connection goes out east to Toronto, and then into the south, which would be close to the northeast, and....

I think I'll be attending Fatty's 5th grade class sometime soon

  4. this works: timecircuits.com/hax/SW_ep3_trailer_captioned.wmv

"You can hang with us... but we still think you're a n00b"

  5. One thing for sure though; I don't think HC should have the same ban ability that VAC does. I know that the developer has stated that the program has flagged people for cheating who had someone else speccing the match and relaying information over Ventrilo/TeamSpeak . Whether that could be considered as a false positive or not is entirely up to debate, but I certainly don't think it warrants a permanent ban from all secure servers. Maybe a month or two ban for the first infraction, more if it happens again.

If anything, the original release plan - a server side plugin that can only ban on that server - wasn't such a bad idea. Even if you aren't cheating (or are only doing small things like ghosting or installing neon-coloured player models), if you manage to score a godlike 85 HC points then you probably are tipping the balances on the server too much and shouldn't be around anyhow. Basically an automated admin, so the real admins can spend less time in the console and more time getting shot by the regulars .

BTW: I believe only three or four people in that video were hacking. Most interstingly was the "reaction to unknown" guy on piranesi - he was wallhacking, and you'd never know it.

  6. from the mouth of AzHole/OutOfAmmo, developer of HackCam (which if you don't know anything about, you should probably read this thread. At least watch the video - it has good music)

I promised everyone an update on the current situation with the legal work and the beta-testing of the V4 system which has been active since April 1. Now, again, I'm still restrained by an NDA, so I cannot give SPECIFIC information, howevver, if you're smart enough and can put 2+2 together, I don't need to say anything specific anyways.

Simply put, at this point in time, V4 is in jeopardy. Not because of it not functioning, but because it has been functioning BETTER then anticipated. The developers I have been in talks with via the legal work developed their own anti-cheating system to handle the problem of cheaters on servers. It was decided at that time to run both programs simultaneously to test them both out, and to test how well they functioned in parallel at the same time. Let's face it, 2 AC's are better then 1 AC any day (you can never have enough security).

The month of testing is nearly up, and guess what. The developers AC system (as of my last update) had caught and confirmed 63 player IDs who were using 3rd party cheats. In comparison, the HCv4 system had caught 367. Of course our first response was, truck yeah, it works! However, things have been getting darker.

From the developers point of view, HC must be faulty, since only 63 of the HC confirmed players could be confirmed by their own AC system, leaving 304 other player IDs in 'limbo'. We can all sit back, look at that, and realistically say, well, HC works better obviously. However, from the other side of the coin, it can be viewed as "No, our AC is accurate, the HC results are all false-positives because we didn't catch them ourselves!" This could simply be pride speaking on their part, since I have been DENIED access to the HC information that was generated for the IDs in question.

This is the reason that V4 has been delayed. It should have been released a week ago to the public server pool for use. We are currently in talks still with the developers to get access to the information required in order to verify whether the players were false-positive hits or not. Additionally, an external panel has been created to look over the information available by both AC systems to determine whether the HC project will continue via the legal channels that have already been created and used.

More information will come as it becomes available to me. I would ask however that regardless of 'filling in the blanks' above, don't start a crusade with any developers you think may be involved, since this can only hinder the project more.

So they've been testing out both VAC2 & HC for about a month and now there's logs to view and decision making to do. Probably shouldn't be too much longer now. :D

  7. Not sure if there would be any point in accusing you of stacking when you're a team unto yourself, but I can see that becoming a tad annoying and possibly offensive after a while.

Gax or no gax, sad to see ya go!

  8. My name around here came about sort of twice...

I used to spend a lot of time in the (strangely soap-operaeic) world of P2P software, in which there was a character named "random nut" (guy who did much of Kazaa Lite K++, among other works). I had to register for some other P2P-related site in which I needed a name that wasn't the usual one I'd used elsewhere, and thought "random n00b" was somewhat appropriate.

The second place my name came from would be from the first day I tried CS 1.6 (actually, one of the very few days ever). I was playing under the default name (whatever that may be) and I had no idea where to take the bomb, so I passed it to someone else. I was promptly called a "random n00b" and was kickbanned from the server. Struck me as either an unusual coincedence, or a sign from above. :P

I took the name to Return to Castle Wolfenstein (which was the best my ol' 400MHz CPU could play), and liked the confusion it created along the lines of "which noob?". I played UT2004 under this name a lot once I got my Athlon processor, and now as well in CS:S (though I played as "dontshoothenoob" until I could get a K:D of 1:2 somewhat reliably). The "00b" is gone in the game though, as Counter-Strike is much more player-oriented than RtCW or UT were, and I'd get called both "random" and "noob" in the game. Just a little simplification.

My other name was just something my friend punched in when we were playing 007 Tomorrow Never Dies on the N64. Found out later that it's a mathematical term. But you probably won't hear me use that name around here, even if it is what I've been using on most of the Internet.

...I need to go to sleep now. :wavey:

  9. I think that's the number one advantage of a smoke grenade: it stops the name display, even if the haze is pretty clear, and one smoke lasts for a very long time. You just have to know when to use them effectively, and don't forget to take a gun with a silencer - it stops the smoke from lighting up when you fire.

Now if only I wouldn't keep forgetting what 'nades I've bought until I see them fly out of my not-as-alive-as-I'd-like player model.

  10. I've seen that message before - it comes up when I try to run a Source engine game over Remote Desktop. Means that Direct3D doesn't want to run for some reason or another.

If you have an ATi card, try running the "ATI Smart" service (if you've disabled it). That would be in Start -> Run -> services.msc -> OK.

Next, try downloading Driver Cleaner, uninstalling your current drivers, booting into safe mode, running Driver Cleaner (for both ATi and nVidia if you've had both types of cards installed in the past), and then restarting to normal mode and reinstalling your preferred drivers.

Failing that, you could try reinstalling DirectX or using the "sfc /scannow" command in the run box (this command restores critical Windows files. Needs the XP disc to run.)

    Otherwise, beats me!

  11. Grenades being thrown when the player dies no longer disappear

Whoohoo! I always wondered why my grenades went *tink* *tink* *nothing* when I did kamikaze runs.

And I suppose Train is a port of a 1.6 map, isn't it? I guess that means I'll be condemned to be lost and confused for a little while while everyone else knows where to go.

Those servers are taking an awfully long time to update... :glare:

  12. I really don't know if the bridging affects what protocols and services are bound to adapters. It's not something I've tried.

I suppose you could also limit shares to certain user/passwords if you are using XP Professional, but then you have to set security permissions and map directories to a drive letter to access them on other computers. It's a much bigger pain, but I know at least that will work.

The best thing would be to give it a shot and see what happens. ;)
