  1. Medieval is fun but...seems unless you come heavy to the party your FPS will be on the low side. Dingy and I are not too good - let me know if the rest of you are low so I can pull this one. Side note - south center edge of map is a castle, there is a dragon sword there - your character will actually hold a sword when you have the weapon up - it is an ion painter but one a little on the weak side (won't cap a node by itself) - it does bypass the no supers mut but seeing as it is weak - no biggie -Fk
  2. Yep - thats tropic - should be in the mix already (either the std. daytime 32p or the nighttime 32p) Another note if you pull a compressed map from that redirect site - if you get one, stick in in your directory, and nothing shows up in the map list when you load the game, then you are missing packages (textures, etc.) - now you actually have to search for the real released version of the map (which would have all those files) Another site for maps, this one with a Euro vibe http://www.utzone.de/ -Fk
  3. The reason we have run with a rotation forever is the past attempts at map voting never quite worked out - too much complaining and leaving when a map came up that someone didn't like, etc., etc. That was with both std. voting (like now) and UT2Vote. But - it has been quite a while (1.5 to 2 years) since those voting tries - perhaps the community (ours and elsewhere) has changed enough to let this fly here now. We'll see. I'll provide the map vote stats next week - let's see this ride out for a bit first. As for links to maps - most of the stuff I put on I already had locally. The usual candidates (not hard to search): www.mapraider.com www.unrealplayground.com An unusual candidate: http://uz2.gameservers.net/ut2004/?C=N;O=D That link above will take a substantial amount of time to load - it is the http-accessible uz2 compressed file directory of gameservers.net's redirect server. Browse to the files starting with ONS and then download away. You will need to put the file in your ut2004/system directory, open a command prompt window and manually decompress the file with ucc decompress name-of-file.uz2 (that or uncompress - I forgets which one atm) Then just take the now uncompressed ut2 map file and stick it in maps. You'll find an awful lot of stuff that never really made it into the main map distribution channels there - clan specific modified maps, betas from god knows where, etc. If you see something interesting, nab it, try it, and if it doesn't suck let me know and I can throw it in the mix. -Fk
  4. That would be Stone Hills - keep in mind the node teleport probs to some of the nodes (meaning if you try to teleport to them you end up at your base instead) Up in a bit -Fk EDIT: You'll be a happy camper hopefully. The teleport problem and the vehicle shading being off were two of the key problems before - although the map never got out of beta and was abandoned, the version I just tracked down (had the map but thought what the hell...) *may* have those probs solved. The vehicles looked fine and the node transports were fine as well. This was in an instant action game - no guarantees on server play - or if other packages are needed.
  5. Reign o' Terror now in effect. ESC key to bring up the menu - voting button on the lower right Mid-game votes are allowed Your score gets you your votes (or frags - whatever - one of the two) If you do NOT vote in a given voting round, your vote score carries over to the next vote - so you can not vote and bank up some voting dime as it were. GC Members: If your score gives you great power - try to wield it wisely pls - if the general pub consensus wants a particular map, try to weigh your vote towards the result that will keep people on the server rather than clear it out. Maps available include something for everyone I think: Torlan Sev. Dria Xfire Nevermore-LE AS Red Planet Alien2 ChainIsile2 FBU-Scorched Maelstrom NecropolisFull Primeval-LE Spiffingrad-T32 UP-Camo UP-SandCrack Urban-LE VolcanoHighV2 Tropic-32P More adds are possible of course - just say what you want and provided frames aren't too sucky, in the mix it goes. -Fk EDIT: Some tweaks to be made - Necorpolis will get yanked (I remember that one now - like crossfire only billion times larger in size), end game time and vote time need to get synced, etc. Will get done ASAP
  6. 1130pm Sat Maps and redirect compressed files loaded. Now to do the voting bit. Yes Dark - Maelstrom is there -Fk
  7. Handfull of maps going up, need to find Sandcrack though (not hard) Our redirect server is a touch on the full side (blame CS:S) so we'll see what I can actually fit. Voting up tonight hopefully - not UT2Vote - just standard. U - Spiffengrad is going up, but I don't think that was it - there was Conclave Canyon...uh... Stone Hills (though that one had some node teleport probs) Hmm - bridge in the middle - UP-Camo perhaps? -Fk
  8. 1) Ahh - time to breathe - I'll try to get those maps up and voting enabled this eve. So - aliens, that other one, Primeval and Frost should be fair game (god help us all) - anything else? Maps only please... -Fk
  9. Dingy ftw! Locked. Map requests for my temporary reign of terror in the new thread pls. -Fk
  10. Yes but you are assuming what our server population is after not regularly playing on our servers in a very long time. This, in a general sense, is why I cut you off a week or two ago regarding the in-game discussion of this stuff (not to mention you know better to do that in-game) - let's kick this out: 1) There are *MANY* good players who roll through here who are aliasing all the time. 2) The fact that you are just getting back into the swing of things here on our boxen means that you might not recognize the aliasing clan players *or* the new regs who are good as well (or even better than us for that matter). 3) This means that if one pub-guy sees a few more GC tags on one side and starts blithering about "balance" that does not mean the match is actually out of balance. That also means that if *you* see a few more GC on one side than the other, you should not whine. GC "stackage" might actually be to balance things out - but again, you have to know the players - and you've been away for awhile... 4) Under 8 players = almost impossible to achieve meaningful balance without going insane - which is to say it makes more sense to just get the round over with and hope for better next time. When bots are out of the mix, it is easier to actually be able to do the spec/join dance without things going wacky - otherwise one could spend much of the match trying to get the teams balanced only to end up repeatedly with human-wise 3v1 or 4vBots - Nature of the UT2K4 beast. 5) We still, naturally, try to balance sides out - at least with GC folks - that has never changed. What may have changed since you've been away is that GC may have more tolerance for playing on the *weaker* side (except Tek ). That is to say, GC may not think to ask for change unless teams are very unbalanced - as opposed to a little unbalanced - and then you have the join/spec/rejoin dance sometimes which removes most of the fun, etc. 6) Unless some of our newer joins have team pref set to a color, all older GC have defaults at no-pref. New kids: check your settings and go to non-pref if not already. 7) BW, Dark, Wentz, HWarrior on one side. Cannon, Tek, Lex, Dingy on the other. Balanced? GC is evenly split per side... If one from the first group jumps over to the second now its 3 v 5 GC-wise, and the folks with only 3 GC who don't have a clue start whining about the stacking - hooray! (Side note - feel free to kill me cannon, Tek, Lex, Dingy - had to put someone in that group ) 8) SCK has the same problems minus the UAdminMod teams command such that they have to beg sometimes when people bail to even even up the sides on a number basis. We do what we can, when we can, with no whining. 9) Shambler over at Titan 32p UK is alpha/beta with a "real" team balancer that keeps a database on some of the stats on matches played on a server - w/l record, epo, etc. of players. Once a player has enough info (need a bunch of matches before it works in any real sense) the mutator will balance teams *at match start* based on skill for the players it has info on. I'm keeping an eye on it if/when he gets this locked down *and* it becomes a whitelisted mut. Naturally, all these problems go away with the release of UT3... -Fk
  11. 1) The atrocity known as Ahebben has been removed. 2) The other alleged atrocity known as Sun Tzu has been removed. Requests? We are pretty stock at the moment except for Nevermore LE. I put Red Planet back in because it has been forever. I am also tempted (tempted I say!) to enable map voting for a lark to see what shakes. Let's have it - whatcha whatcha want? Only a brief time before my reign of terror ends with the return of HW... -Fk

  13. Nope - not I - I didn't know anything about this whole thread until early this AM -Fk
  14. If you had enough link... Yes - counts as suicide (or a death) -Fk
  15. Well, if you start at 1280x1024 (19" monitor) and 90 fov but have a 24" LCD running at 1900x1200 *and* you have UT running at that native resolution, then with my widescreen, but still at 90 fov, I get an extra 620 pixels horizontally and 176 vertically. Meaning, if you are running at 90 fov and 1280x1024, I am seeing an extra 310 pixels to the left AND right of what you see (divide your screen into 4 equal vertical parts than add one of those strips to both sides of your monitor - that would be about right) and I also get a little bit above and below (88 pixels each way) So as to what that would mean as far as effective fov, hmm... not sure. Someone else can do those maths. Mind you, if I flipped to 120 fov, that would be a scary amount of stuff on the screen at one time. An easy way to do this would be to hop in Temerity and on Vent and have a couple of people stand in front and to either side of a stationary person and have them slowly work their way to opposite sides of the stationary player's point of view until he couldn't see them any more. Be an easy way to compare the widescreen vs. std display and different fov settings. ------------------------ Kaus Crosshairs - what all the cool people use KAusV8.zip ------------------------ -Fk

  17. http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=566284 Mid-way down are links to the magazine images. Too much to mention here - just read it. Ambiguous as to 2007 or 2008. I still lean 2007 though - keep in mind, these magazine feature articles havea bit of a lead time for writing and production so the material there is probably back a month or two. -Fk
  18. ...has been updated - not much (pics, trailer, sign up for newsletter) but we are at the start of the promotional push. -Fk
  19. 1) New tags for GC. In case you didn't notice /-=GC=-/ is now GC][ Why? Bushwack has tired fingers. 2) Server names changed to reflect new tag Both pub. and priv. 3) ServerLogo is out Been fine for awhile. Might as well be nice to the Linux folks for the few months left of UT2004 (The custom logo would never go away on Linux clients. Not many of them out there but..eh.) 4)UTAN Ban Manager is now live. We try to be pretty wide open here but I've noticed a few folks who have been very naughty elsewheres getting on the server here. With us not running AntiTCC and admins not always playing, seems a simple thing to do. For those not in the know, UTAN is the trusted Unreal admin network - folks submit bans for the peeps being naughty, if evidence is there, banned is they. Me English good quite. With the UTAN mut. running, it checks the master ban list from UTAN and they don't get in here. Global bans are only for the naughtiest peeps so, seems a sane thing to do. Granted, we have had so few botters on our pubs (knock on wood) and even when we did, frankly, unless they had their hax on 100% hitscan 24/7, I don't think any of us noticed or cared. 5) Ping kicker is now at 250 *and* only comes into play once we have 14 people or more playing. Just to keep the rif-raff out. 6) A few changes to the server messages. Mainly to reflect new server name, HWarrior as lead, etc. 7) Sun-Tzu SLE or whatever it is called is in rotation. Seeing as our lead (ahem...) is distracted at the moment as far as dealing with maps, I chucked it up as Sun_Tzu is now eligible for TWL play. Eventually someones gonna use it - best to get familiars with it now. Not much out there for new maps ONS wise - I'm thinking it is slim pickin's from here on out til UT3. 8) Server is pretty solid right now. Believe it or not, the down time we had (very irregularly but it was there) for a few months was eventually traced to a faulty power cable. Who knew? Until I did the above changes, Nepenthe had been up since March 6th. 9)Be nice to our guest aliasers We do get our fair share of competitive ONS players *and* old time retired competitive ONS players on Nepenthe. Much more often than not, they swing with an alias (sans any tag of course). I know our members know this but for everyone else, like our server spam says, they prob. are not botting; they are that good. And very welcome here! Moonshine rolled through a week or two ago - seems to do so from time to time - tends to pwn most anything in sight. A pleasure to watch. 10) Note to GC members RE: reserves You got them - if the server browser says we are full up, go ahead and join. We have had reserves that add a slot to make room for you to join when the server is full quite some time now. I believe we have upwards of 6 extra slots. When non-members leave, the server player count just drops back to accomodate our normal size until everything evens out. However - you cannot get an extra spectator slot - sad but true. If the server is full and the spec slots are full - you gotta join to play to get on the server, not try to spec. Just fyi. 11) Reminder: Once the UT3 demo is available, our pub will transition to it asap. When the demo date gets out, Nepenthe will probably begin to run in "last call mode" with members and regs submitting their top 5 maps. We'll let her rip with those and the kitchen sink til the demo swith. Probably schedule up a night or two of 1 round "best of ONS maps" and give this puppy a good viking funeral. Any other map requests you may as well drop in this thread. Or pester HWarrior -Fk
  20. What dark said. You can set the true 1900xWhatever res in the ini file but not in the in-game menu if I reall correctly. Our little server image logo *will* be stretched out but otherwise, everything should be gravy. The usb hub: Kinda dumb, but have to ask - is it plugged in? On our (Dark, me) Dell 24" monitors, we have usb ports in various places, however, you still have to link those ports to the main computer and that doesn't happen over the video cable. Look for a place to jack in the other end of a usb cable - one that would take a much more square end - that would be the usb hub out - then stick the other end into an open usb slot on your comp and XP/vista will detect a few new USB ports. -Fk
  21. 615 Park Ave Las Cruces, NM 88011 The lawn mower and gas can are in the front yard, let me know when you're finished Las Cruces? What lawn? -Fk
  22. The footage is from a PS3 console demo. Pretty much just d-pad movement by a noob. Check the epic forums for more info. Cross-platform play is almost certainly not going to happen barring some substantial changes to even things out play-wise. Consoles have to account for gamepad being nowhere near as fast as mouse/keyb so they add in a "locking" mechanism similar to auto aim - more like a stickiness when you have the crosshairs over a valid target.. Not exactly sporting to the PC folks. You just started to use a mouse last month? On an unrelated note, I'm out til Sat nite at the earliest - I can poke my head in on webadmin but thats about it. -Fk
  23. Shamelessly stolen from the Epic Forums http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=564987 Ok - now I'm really out of it for a day or two (parental units got caught up in teh storms down south) -Fk
