According to these tests on anandtech, the HL2 game run on the newest Geforce FX cards is going to SUCK. I had a feeling there was a reason for Nvidia's driver cheating on DX9 tests and those other DX9 tests that showed ATI whooping Nvidia had to mean something.

 

Now I suppose you can still run HL2 on those Nvidia cards, but the performance will be less than the ATI Cards (9500 pro and above) and will still not look as good.

I recommend you read the whole thing and see what the author of the report is saying. It has nothing to do with memory bandwidth and etc, it is most likely computational power. Think about it. The nvidia cards are using a specialized "path" to work better on their cards and still the ATI cards beat the hell out of the nvidia cards with the normal DX9 code.
