finished 3rd book...did audio books on trips from OH to TN. found myself not wanting trip to end to finsh the book.

 

 

I read the first 4 books years ago... lost interest in the series after the 4th book. My fav if I remember correctly was the 'White Dragon'? Its the third book I beleive...

Hey, then no need to say unfortunately! The GT will do everything you want it to just fine! Just use riva to bump up the speed of the fan from 60% to 100% and you're good to go! You'll love the card.

My dad is looking to (finally) part ways with his pos Dell lappy (after years of me telling him not to buy Dell's and a couple years of me telling him that one reason his is so slow if the 256mb ram isn't enough for XP).

I've sorta pointed him to the macbook. Biggest issue is software compatability. He's a boater, and does some extensive cruising. He currently uses his lappy for his navigation software, and would use the macbook for the same purpose. I've already told him to check the software makers websites to see if they'll run on a mac, but wanted to find out from you guys (sj, and m2 et al.) what the chances are that his existing software will work on the mac.

I don't believe that the 13.3" screen size will be a big issue, as I'm not certain his existing lappy has a screen that's any bigger. I also know he doesn't want to spend macbook pro prices.

Thought or suggestions? Am I doing the right thing, or leading him to the dark side?

I have the older GTS running CoD4 maxed everything at 1920x1200 in dx10 and getting super smooth frames in a full server. I think either card (GT or g92 GTS) will be just fine for any game you're playing right now. I think the GTS will have more support though in the long run, and it'll run cooler with the heatsink it has.

Infortunately the g92 GTS is out of my price range. the gt at $269 is about as high as I can go.

I liked the original one the best, but if you have to change, #1 is good.

You must be looking at the old model of the GTS (G80) if it's only $269. The new GTS models (G92) are faster but also cost more. The GT on the other hand are almost as fast as a GTX but with half the memory but are considerable cheaper. I would go for the GT over the older style GTS.

Well, since I'm local, golf isn't totally out of the picture, just doubt that I can do the FF thing. Will have to see. May have to stop by to see people on Saturday even if I can't stay.

Other than the size of the cards, (gts's being double slot cards) what are the main differences to these? I've found gts's for $269 with 640 ram, and gt's for the same price with 512 ram. Long ago I remember the adage to never buy parts with an "s" at the end because that meant they usually stunk. I've also seen gts's in the mid $300's so am unsure if the old adage still holds true. The other thing I've noticed is that the clock timings on the gts's seem to be lower than the gt's, sometimes considerably.

Thoughts? is the gts worth getting, or should I get the 8800gt?

I'd be way more impressed if he could play anything on a real guitar......... Just proves he has nothing else to do all day, and apparently his parents encourage him too much to play it.

I highly doubt that I'll be there this year. Our second child is due about 2 weeks prior to FF08, and not sure leaving the wife with a newborn, and 1 1/2 year old would be good for me health. Might stop by with Wolfie Jr though.

lol, gg guys. I enjoyed what I got to se of it. had to disconnect during the 2nd half to take care of some stuff, but glad to hear you guys pulled out the win.

And yeah ksx was a punk. the finale guys win a round and he's all like "yeah, now we rockin!" "I was like, ummm, you're still losing........ But we were nice to them, even if it wasn't reciprocated from their clan.
