  1. Nice Laz.

Roadrunner did something similar about 2 months ago. We got upped to a 5mbit download, now most of the speed test I check show an actual d/l speed in the 4500-4800 range. Don't remember what the upstream rate was, have to check that sometime again.

  2. Just to add my 2 1/2¢, I have an ATI 9600xt 128mb Saphire card running in my old comp, that my wife uses constantly to play SWG, and it looks killer doing it.

I also have a Leadtek px6600gt extreme 128mb running in this pc. This is the one I use to play CS:S, HL2, etc. Here's the reason I got this card. SLi. nVidia is the only chip maker currently supporting using 2 viddy cards to render the images faster, and theoretically, better.

I spent about 5 months researching components; mobo's, viddy cards, ram, procs, etc. What I found was that at this time, this year, etc. nVidia was doing more with their chipsets than ATI. I read more benchmarks than you can shake a stick at. Almost all of my initial choices changed during the process, except for the proc type. All I knew for sure was that I wanted an Athlon64 socket 939. Beyond that was up in the air.

I know you prolly cannot afford a pcie mobo, (heck I prolly couldn't afford the system I eventually built, but I built it over a few months, so that spread the hit out a bit.) but pcie is the graphic slot of the future. Think pci viddy cards vs. agp...

Just be sure that the system you build today is the one you want to be playing on next month. ;)

Hope I didn't confuse the issue, good luck with the computer upgrade.

  3. I used it briefly, but disliked it. Way too much like OE. I didn't like the interface, and since I'm forced to use Outlook at work (boss doesn't know enough about computers to know there are better alternatives, and I get pulled away from my regular work enough as it is to take the time to train him how to use a different program) I don't even want Outlook, or OE installed here at home.

My personal take on TB was that it was ugly, and clunky to use. Maybe that's due to me having used Eudora for the last 10 years or so.

  4. My flight sticks consist of a throttle stick, and a controller stick, both of which just enable me to crash more creatively, lol. But they do take up a bit of room.

Eh, I'll bring 'em anyway. I'm local, and if we don't play IL2, I can just leave 'em in the room.

  5. I only use the cable to play games..... ifmy game lags on multiplayer then no point of cable...... i may switch to satelite internet..... depends on cost...... :P

Just beware that satelite internet is horrid for online gaming. Much worse than what you're experiencing now. Reason: the signal has to go from your house, to the sateliote, back to the groung, then through the 'net to get to the gaming server, then repeat the process in reverse for all incoming data.

Satelite *might* be better than dialup, but will most likely render online gaming unplayable.

    Just something to consider...

I would check to see if DSL is available in your area before switching to satelite.

  6. Also, are there any IL2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles players here? I'd be up for some games of that, but if nobody else is into playing, I'd leave the flight sticks at home, so as not to take up too much room.

I'd play UT2k4 if there was a server running... :wavey:

  7. Send pics so we can be jealous. :boing:

Haven't got the boat out yet, but hopefully in the next couple weeks we can get it out for some spring fishing.

  8. Here is my girl with a nie pike she got this winter, she normally outfishes me

Ace, trust me, if you take a girl fishing with you, she will always outfish you. My wife caught a 5 lb. 21" smallie in Canada 2 summers ago fishing for bluegills in 10' of water with a worm and a hook. My cousin and I were throwing every crank, and spinner we could find, and then sat back and enjoyed watching her fight it in.

Should have pics somewhere, but I'll have to look.

  9. I have a similar board, the A8N-SLI, and I noticed that when I set the adaptive overclocking on, it did affect the speed of my mobo fans. I could hear the lower rpms...

It actually dumped out and said the system failed due to overclocking, then booted right back up at the same settings. :rolleyes2: I just went back to the bios overclock, as it seemed more unstable when it tried to overclock on the fly.

Currently the system isn't overclocked because I had some software issues that masked themselves as hardware issues, and set the bios back to normal during the troubleshooting, and haven't re-upped it yet.

It your temps are still good, and it's stable... go with it.

  10. Got my nick almost 16 years ago when I used to call the local BBS's, back in the days of 2400 baud modems. Started out as Doctor X, because someone was already using the nick I wanted, Thanatos. (Still chat and game with him online.) I wanted something unique, and dark, so I picked up a MisFiTs tape I had, saw the song title Wolfs Blood, made it one word, and that's who I became.

Occasionally gone by Samhain, or various mythological creatures/demons, but I'm known most places around the net as Wolfsblood.

Had to add the "1" to my name in CS:S because someone stole my nick. :glare: Oh well.

  11. Ok, on a UPS related note. It says in the "what to bring" thread to bring a power bar, would my UPS that's running my comp count? It's got the juice to run my comp, and monitor. Just wondering. This will be my first LAN party, so... :D

  12. Here's the best I got: 2988 :/

Did all the power off/reboot stuff, but...

I think before it was in the 24k range, so, yeah it's an increase, but not that much here.

Yowza! did a test on a diff server, and w00t! :=

4775 down, 116(?) up, which seems horribly skewed....
