  1. That dude gets SO much more credit than me. I have no such stamina.

After 5 mins of struggling to get back up, Id have realized the coolers were cold, pullled all of the chips down to cover me in a warm blanket of crispy warm puffy-bagged goodiness.

Then Id have curled into a proper man's drunken fetal position, convinced myself that the chips were my bed and blanket, the cold floor was a fresh coolness to keep me collected, and the bags were my pillows brought to me by my harem.....

Of course, Id have woke up in cuffs instead of escorted like this guy.

Now that I think of it, Id have also cracked the case of beer, and while sipping I would have, in my infinite wisdom, decided that I should pass out with my open wallet on my chest so the store guy doesnt think I stole the beer I drank while I was passing out.

    Um.

    I mean.

Thats what I heard that people do.

  2. How does this effect my software?

I have two drives on this machine. If I copy everything to the E: drive right now will it still be there and attainable after the install? I think everything on C: gets hosed, but will E be ok?

I have been putting copies of drivers and other stuff on this drive for that reason. Did I waste my time?

  3. My wife and I have been struggling with this as well. Its a tough decision to make for the kids. One is a 10 year old female, the other a 9 month old boy. The wrong decision has the potential to be very disastrous later, either way, and it is so hard to know.

Thanks for the heads up Dukers.

We decided to build a vented bomb shelter and live there instead until the zombies take over.

  4. Interesting cooler!

That last memory you posted up is only 1333 instead of 1600 like you posted before. This will limit your overclocking options.

Here is some acceptable G skill Ripjaws. I dont have any experience with them, but Ive been seeing them in the Evga forums.

    Here's mine:

    Or some OCZ's:

  5. Lotsa folks hitting 4.0 - 4.4 on that thing. I just did a stupid-man OC... crank the the volts and the (other number I cant drunkenly remember that starts at 133).. and see what happens. If I put anywhere NEAR the work into it that I did for the Opty ( I obsessed for a month...ask Cujo) I could blow past 4.0.

Im very happy with this system. No complaints at all. Even if you go totally 100% stock, it'll put you automatically to around 3.4-3.5 for most gaming apps.

(Oh.... did I mention cryostasis SUCKS NEVER EVER EVER spend a single penny on it)

  6. The 750 should be plenty unless you go silly SLI-ing. (not recommended on the P55 platform - it goes 8x-ing on you)

The ram looks ok. The timing arent great, but for the price...EH! ITs 4 gigs!

The 750 has proven to be a little underpowered when rated stock. HOWEVER, in the evga forums, it is proving to be an overclocking winner.

Dont forget btw, that EVGA warranties its Mobos and Vid cards even including overclocking. Also, the evga boards are drilled to allow 775 cooling systems as well.

Heres the Cheapy Evga board... I got the next up version and am very happy so far.

I hit 3.8 (instead of 2.8) Ghz in a piece of single click cake with that board and the 860.

I have a thread here about Laz's new lynnfield and a post in the OC thread as well. I chose the 860.

If you want to OC the 750 is great. If youre going to leave it all stock, maybe the 860 would be better?

One nice thing about the P55/1156 series is its "auto" turbo. If your are running 100% stock, it will boost its own performance depending on power consumption. IE: a single core game will get the goods.

Drawback: this will NOT be a 100% future-proof platform. They will continue to support the other system, including when 6-core comes out. Depends on what you want.

Oh, the 1156 stock coolers...well, SUCK. Get another air cooler.

I know the 860 came with a better one when you order the 860 automatically.

If not, I can hook you up with a "Hyper Master TX3" heatsink/fan. It came with mine but I bought another instead (see sig). Its less than amazing, but MUCH better than the POS stock one... just pay shipping.

Excuse my midnight rambling...did I help? Ive been delving into this platform a bit, so hit me with a specific question if you need to.

  7. same here.

After trying several options, I tried:

    Click Change Signature.

Dont change anything from the way it is already.

    Click Save Changes.

    Same error as Zester.

If I remove a line I already have, same error.

I tried to remove everything except a single line of plain text....couldnt edit my sig to that either.

  8. Stock speed in 3dmark06 around 16700-16900. OCing the vid card to 705/1585 gives about 17150-17300.

Just did a simplistic "Dummy OC" to 3.5Ghz.

    3dMark 06 = 19617

    SM2.0 - 8347

    SM3.0 - 8359

    CPU - 6136

After OCing to 3.8Ghz and GTX275 to 710/1585/1240:

    3dmark06 = 21223

    SM2.0 - 8689

    SM3.0 - 9183

    CPU - 6614

    Max CPU temp: 69

    Intel 860 Lynnfield (3.8Ghz)(Xigmatek Dark Knight cooler) - EVGA P55-sli - 4GB Corsair Dominator 7/7/7/20 - EVGA GTX275 710/1585/1240 -

    2x 640GB WD Caviar Black - Corsair 850HX - Antec 900-2

    3dmark06 = 21223

  9. Well, its up and running with Vista 64 right now. Still doing some little stuff (cables, case wires, etc). Looks great!

Someone wanna set me up with some linkies for today's software to benchmark it?

Question: How has Win 7 been doing? I got a free copy of Win 7 home coming to me, and by the sounds of it I'm going to like it, but has there been too many issues with it?

I don't wanna be O/S gimped for 6 months while they figure out drivers and such.

    Pics details etc later.
