  1. Hello!

I did a few builds personally and at work using SSD drives.

One thing I find myself wishing is that I got a larger SSD drive!

I spent the time to review newegg to find a decently reviewed SSD drive that had fast WRITE speeds.

All SSDs are going to have fast read speeds, but WRITE is where it's at.

With that said, I would get at least a 240GB SSD.

You'll notice you'll be slowly installing new programs that you want to run fast and take advantage of the SSD's speed.

    I.E. GAMES!

Your load times for games will be very fast compared to your old magnetic HDDs.

Brands, I've used Intel and GSkill with no issues.

I have bought Kingston SSD, but that was awhile ago when SSDs were new. Still works, but it's "slow" compared to newer SSDs.

  2. What makes that one appealing to you?

Cost, Screen resolution, or how thick the laptop is? :P

Here is another refurb from Newegg that is better!

  5. hello from the crypt

Hope all has been well sim!

$500 budget is going to get you into the Intel Haswell core i3 & i5 (on sale) range of most HP and Dell laptops.

Is there a brand you want to avoid?

    Know what size monitor?

    I'd suggest a 15.4" or 15.6"

Does he care for Win7 or Win8?

A great place to start to research and find codes, current sales, etc is DealNews.com

  6. I really enjoy it. Especially cleaning up the top toolbars, which is valuable real estate on a laptop with a small screen.

I am sad that I lost all my saved tabs, and by default it doesn't ask me if I want to save my current tabs or not, just saved them be default. (I like choice!)

I'm still getting use to switching from Xmarks to FF Sync in regards to tabs.

  7. I've been beta testing it and very happy with it!

I haven't had any issues with it not recognizing any of my Hardware, and even suggesting proprietary drivers. i.e. nVidia Video Card and Broadcomm wireless chipset.

I am still getting use to the "mac" style windows and the "social networking" additions to the OS.

Also, I'm a fan of Dropbox and won't be using Ubuntu One.

  8. Yup! I found it!

    The stealclient.dll was 0k . lol.

I now have CSS, TF2, and HL2DM setup under C:\HLServer

Now I just need to find sever.cfg files for HL2DM and CSS.

And some hacking to get into the internet on campus :)

    Alright I'm all setup!

Im sure it's wise to update the servers right b4 I leave to the lan, haha.

  9. Hey Mookie

Thank you so much for all the info!!!

At the moment, the LAN party is on Saturday and I've setup a TF2 and HL2:DM server on the laptop.

Im having issues though with TF2 and getting it to connect to the steam cloud. (Want unlocks if I can get internet access)

I've set sv_lan = 0 but it seems to be unable to access the steam cloud. (Yes I have internet atm)

There is prob.a 5% chance I'll have internet access. but if I can get my laptop to connect and just that. I would be happy. That means the server can at least connect to the Steam cloud.

Any help would be awesome! Thanks again.

    Quick note:

When I log into steam on my laptop. then start up the server. I have access. All is well. But that means I have to play on my laptop (which I wont)

I get an error when I start up the server without Steam open. Saying the steamclient.dll is not setup to run on Windows . I can get u the exact if u need it.

    Another note:

I might have messed up something with the directories when I installed HL2:DM.

I think Im going to delete it all and redownload today. And put them in separate folders. (Was hoping that I could save HDD space, but idc atm)
