  1. http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370 dlink wants about $160 for that router. it's super g, then some. get this if money isn't an issue.

http://www.dlinkshop.com/product.asp?sku=2275503 is the next option below that. probably a better choice @ $79 if you're on a budget.

berg is right. when it comes to gaming, don't even consider 802.11b routers--only look at 802.11g and 802.11g+.

once you get it, if you have any questions on how to configure it, feel free to leave them here. you should consider securing it, whether it's wep (encryption), mac filter (allowing only specificied network cards), or disabling the ssid broadcast.

  2. is wiring an option? it's messy, but i've heard too many complaints about packet loss in mission critical applications.

in other words, all those obstacles between your wireless card and your wireless router stand to interefere with your transfer. lag spikes are common in gaming, and big data transfers (say copying your roomies mp3 directory) will usually error out.

some people that spend the extra bucks on a super-g or the super dope router may have better luck, but i'd still rather trip over wire at 3am than loose one stinking packet.

if you do decide to wire:

    100ft cat5 network cable

    linksys wrt54g router

    intel 10/100/1000mbit network cards

  3. wow.

i think you mighta missed the train, soul. i watched this again on friday night (for the 4th time) and not only do i think it's better than tennenbaums and rushmore...it might be one of the most interesting and unique movies i've ever watched.

there are atleast two ends of the movie spectrum, one side being "the fast and the furious" and "the life aquatic..." being on the completely opposite end. one isn't more divine than the other, but there's a clear disctinction.

the life aquatic has a complete disregard for cookie cutter hollywood movies. i remember walking out of the theatre feeling like i just watched "the magic school bus" on some whacked out hallucinogen.

    two big thumbs up.

  4. I don't have the steam ID, but everyone agreed on server that he should be banned.

I have a screen shot, but how do we put that on here???

    his name is -=WC=-elchivero

    sunday night, 12h00am EST

his score, 30 - 3, when everyone else is under 10. Aimbot of somekind.

yeah, i verified this, and he's gone. not coming back, either. thanks for the headsup...

  5. We welcome our first GC West joinee...

    Beavis has made the jump.

Please welcome him aboard, and let him know the CS:S>WoW...he's splitting his time between both.

Welcome aboard! as we say out west, i'm stoked!

  6. if you guys would ever like a change of scenery, please stop by west.

-having good players is always good for building a good base on a new server

-having gc'ers that know the rules helps lead by example (rules, community, etc)

-having gc'ers on the server adds a dimension of desirability to gc.

there's been a misconception that gc'ers from the midwest are taking up valuable pub slots. NOT TRUE. even more reason for west pubbers to consider joing gc.

ya'll have an open invite to stop by and hang out for as long as you want, anytime. please do.

  7. Yay.  Don't mind most of the maps just don't like that one.

keep in mind, gamerscoalition members ($50/yr) have voting rights on issues like this. they also get reserves on ALL our servers--3 counter strike, 2 ut, an upcoming DoD:source, and a couple uber-secret private servers.

consider joining today. $50 ain't much, i spend that a week in gas...

  8. h4ng -

if your talk with time warner goes well, breeze by this post.

-what is the exact model of your router?

-what are the exact models of all network cards connecting to the network (unless you only care about your ping)

-run a speedtest. although this won't tell you your latency (ping) sucks, it will tell you if you're getting the thoroughput you're paying time warner for. (test here)

i'm asking for router/network card info to help you find the latest drivers. if you know how to do that, or what to look for, do that first and foremost. also, if you have an onboard network card, and updating the driver doesn't work, you man want to look and see if your chipset manufacturer has a new system INF file available. ask if you need help...

are the pings consistantly high, or is there a pattern of midweek afternoons and weekend evenings? maybe not exactly that pattern... also, a few complaints to sbc yahoo had technicians here. they ended up realizing they were over capacity for our neighborhood and have since upped the cap.

also, re: spyware/viruses. get ms anti spyware beta1 (here). it's good. also, try avg anti virus free edition (here) if you're not running something. even if you are, you need to update definitions daily...we do it 3x/day at work!

  9. 72...and i'm not even going.

just got done looking through last years picture book. wow, this is well done. and man, it looks fun. it would be incredibly cool to get a fragfestwest. the vision lives on...

  10. if that makes your stomache turn, don't look into amtrak, ever. that's got to be the biggest gov't writeoff in history.

it's too bad more legislators don't fly commercial airlines. maybe then they'd see that the american public would be better off with the closure of united/delta/ata/northwest/american/etc. in the name of jet blue global domination.

if you've never flown blue, you need to. really.
