Did someone say 24/7 dust2/aztec/cbble/season?
-
Any specific maps you're thinking of?
-
If I read that right, you save about $130 by buying all that stuff together, but could save $85 just by dropping the two software pieces. Seems pretty pointless, unless you specifically want all the rest of it.
-
Tomorrow is still September, so it would be $15 for tomorrow through September 2012.
-
Bump.

I paid a month or so ago. Am I good?
I have you down for September 2012 ZD.

The real question is how de_cpl_fire got to be on. Deleted.

The thought occurred to me that it might be nice to cut the amount of spare ammo the AWP carries on the server to reduce the amount of spam. It seems like the game was a bit nicer back when 338 cost $125 per magazine. Good idea, bad idea?

Shut down the Linux server for today. Please use Retrocedence (connect retro.gcftw.com).
-
Not tonight for sure.

Testing a new server setup.

Just plugged this in and even with the volume turned way up, the noise cancellation is very effective. Nice because, as a stand-up microphone, it will probably be a foot or more away at all times.
-
Normal response to, "I'm using CAL Casey's config," would be, "welcome to 2006."
-
I just ordered a stand-up mic that was supposedly delivered today (UPS says "Front Door" which hopefully doesn't mean they left it on the sidewalk). The $20 weird silver thing from Logitech. I'll post back how it sounds once I get it hooked up.

FTP access is restricted to a small number of admins who configure the servers. There are a lot of problems that can be caused by someone if they don't know how the server is set up. Downloading logs of course is harmless, but there are not options to give someone partial or restricted access to the FTP for a gameserver.
-
Is it difficult to change configs? If it's not, maybe switch between the 2, and do a blind test, then ask people on which nights they felt reg was better.
It depends on what you mean by configs. We did this (except not blind) with the admin plugins. It is a bit of a hassle to change the admin plugins, as the second one needs to be configured once (takes quite a while for SourceMod to get it set up the way you want), and all the admins of course need to be aware of the change because the commands are named differently. Changing a variety of server cvars is not difficult at all, but you have to know which ones are likely to effect registration (there are a lot of cvars, type 'cvarlist' in console sometime). Most of the cvars that effect registration (interpolation, rates, etc.) are configured on the client side.
-
Use FileZilla for FTP. It's free, simple, and works like a normal FTP client.
-
Complaints about registration are appreciated. We just got done looking for a difference between Mani and Sourcemod (the two major admin plugins) in terms of server performance over a few weeks, unfortunately with no result. That means that other options are now being considered, as the performance for Retro is not really holding up after the June 26 update (server-side framerate cut in half).
If you know of specific servers of a similar size (over 20 active players) that definitely (and consistently) play better, please PM me to let me know which ones specifically. The only one I've heard so far is the Fish. Being able to look at how these servers are set up in terms of OS, plugins, and some cvars may be very helpful.
If you can run a trace and post it that would be interesting as well, to see if there are routing issues common to players who are not getting good registration.

After conferring with mohawk, the tentative opinion is that there is no evidence of cheating in the recorded demo. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Jack Burton Burrito's (sic) will be unbanned when I finish downloading the current logs or when his ID is posted, whichever is sooner.
Flux will either be unbanned or remain banned once the recorded demos have been reviewed.

Oh I thought I did that already.

(1) We want to keep a friendly atmosphere where players treat each other with respect, or at a minimum don't treat each other badly. This is supported by policies against swearing and insulting other players. If someone wants to insult someone, they will have to put it into language that will diminish or possibly cancel its offensiveness. A policy specifically against swearing at people would be difficult or impossible to enforce.
(2) Different things are offensive to different people. Some people would let their kids watch zombie movies but not R-rated comedies. Some people would do the opposite. CSS specifically is really not that gory; even if there were a clear equivalence between violence and bad language, to my eye it's tamer than what you'd see or hear at 9pm on broadcast TV.
(3) No swearing keeps the noobs out. Often enough, the people who can't control themselves are the very same people who theoretically shouldn't be playing an M-rated game.
