Alright, I have decided that dual video cards just isn't worth it. I still like the ability to go quad core in the future, and I won't need a psu that powerful for just that. What about my raptors? Should I rip them out of my old system and run my OS of of them?
-
That raises another question: On my current setup, I am using dual 74gb Raptors in raid 0, but they are only 1.5gbps. What advantages or disadvantages would that create?
Another thought: I chose this mobo simply because it uses an Nvidia chipset, is quad core compatible, and I can expand to dual 8800's later on.
What kind of PSU would I potentially need for a dual 8800 and quad core setup?

I have done my best to help you guys out on some tech questions, so now it's time to help me! I plan on building a new system very soon, and don't want to spend over $2,000.00 including shipping.
Below is a list of components that I have been wanting for some time. Most of them are top of the line, so there is plenty of room for flexibility as far as prices go. Tell me what you think!
evga 8800 GTX $579.99
2 gb OCZ ddr2 800 RAM$245.99
ASUS P5N-E SLI mainboard$139.99
Western Digital 500gb sata 3.0gbps Hard Drive$149.99
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz cpu$509.99
Antec TruePower 550w PSU$99.99
Lian Li Full Tower aluminum case$219.99
Grand Total (excluding shipping)------$1945.93

Where did you get a copy so soon?

Voyager is great. The original series has to be my favorite. Generations is good too. I can't watch deep space 9 for some reason.

I would suggest going to the device manager and uninstalling the drivers with the mouse in. Right after, remove the mouse. Then reinstall the mouse and let windows auto-install the drivers. If that doesn't work, try manufacturers or third party drivers if you can find them.

I was looking at that blender the other day. Insanely powerful.

If you were alliance, I would probably take that offer.

I would also go DVD instead of multiple cds, for simplicity.

I believe that USB headphones have a built in sound device. That's how some headphones are able to do 5.1 surround.

There will be no easy way to send that large a file over a p2p network. The only solution I can think of would be to use a FTP program. It would take many days to send the file though. It would be faster to mail a HDD like someone posted above.

I bought the Audigy 4 last year, and I have been very happy with it. I know I posted about this card before on this thread. I would stick with Creative as opposed to a knock off, but that's just the audiophile in me talking.

Once I installed XP pro onto my machine (60 gb hard drive), and it registered as only having 2 gigs left after the install.
Anyhow, never knew that about sp1.

Stories like this make me nervous about buying on Ebay. A friend of mine bought a bike for 4 grand and the guy took off with his money.

I think for the features and games it is way too overpriced. Most people don't even have a TV that can take advantage of BluRay. Besides, buying either HD-DVD or BluRay this early in the game is foolish in my opinion. Wait until there is a clear victor and one becomes standard.

I have always wanted a PDA with wifi. I wonder what web pages would look like at that resolution.

I agree with Cujo. Save yourself some dough and grab an external drive.
I know it's above your price range, but WD has some nice 500 gig drives for fairly cheap.

I had a similar problem with my new LCD. When using the DVI port, the image was scrambled, and I couldn't see the UI in windows, even when I restarted. So then I hooked my CRT up and discovered that the refresh rate was set to 75 hertz, which made my monitor freak out. After I set it to 60, everything was fine.

So this motherboard would work just fine with one video card? Just wondering because I don't know much about SLI boards.

First of all, the author is wrong on several accounts. Defragmenting not only improves performance by making sure the files are not scattered across the platter, but reduces wear and tear on the hard drive itself. Imagine never defragging your drive, and how the hard drive must seek back and forth on the platter, creating unnecessary wear just to read one file.
Partitioning is very useful and sometimes necessary (like in linux) for any computer. It is also much safer to store data on a partition separate from your system files (although for essential data, a completely separate hard drive would be best). Go ahead, try to install two different Windows operating systems on one partition.
Edit: ok, he said defragging was important, but he didnt list the most important reasons.

replaced it with the stock hsf for right now
im on the new comp right now getting source set up to test it out, what temps are ok? im getting 39c installing and running all the drivers and copying files on my network.
That sounds right. My rig runs at around 27-35c at idle, and no more than 40 at load (I think, Ill check when I get home from school). Anyway, its certainly not bad for stock.
Let us know how many fps you get with all maxed settings, and native res on that LCD (even though you probably use vsync normally).

The realism was much needed. The only complaint was the defibrillator scene, but I guess it's feasible.
I liked how it wasn't as complex as some of Brosnan's films, which I think let them concentrate on making each scene and set very realistic and convincing. Having a simple plot leaves some things to the imagination, which I believe is important for any game/movie.
I also loved the ending scene when the classic bond music came in. That reminds me, I need to start buying the collectors editions.

Why would you need to take that off? Normally heatsinks attach via the clips beside the cpu. Heck, I actually recommend getting a new case.

Alright, but I don't want to go crazy on the price either, while still sticking with name brand.
A friend of mine is using a 440w psu with his 8800 and a 2.6 amd x2. I think 550w will be fine, but I really should go higher just to futureproof. I would hate to have to buy another PSU if I ever went quad core.
