  1. Given the response in the private UT TWL forum, I'd say yes.

But alas, you can't see those right now can you..... :)

    -Fk

I'd forgotten that the TWL forum was private. There has been lots of talk there lately though no decisive action. Could we let DarkArchon have the TWL password temporarily so he can get in on the discussions there rather than try to recap everything here?

  2. lol Cannon! you kept running me over with the manta and killing me with the hellbender! I needed you to get out of the vehicles! :D

still waiting on that linky... ;)

:smiling2::smiling2: That was probably about the only time I gave you some decent competition! I think that map was cramping your usual style!

Once in a great while this old fart does OK. I loved playing against Bushwack on Severance a few weeks back on Nep. Both of us were trying to take out the other's primary node. I'm usually the one that's too late but as I took out the node I hear Bush whining something like, "Man, just one more shot!" That made my evening especially when Bush was the one that taught me how to correctly take down nodes with a shock rifle during a TWL practice session. :smillie_smilling::smillie_smilling:

  3. The hard part with building a scratch PC is not the physical building and connecting especially in these days of Windows XP. The hard part is all of the decisions on what's compatible with what, and what's the best bang for the buck, etc... Fortunately, I've got several good friends that live and breath this stuff. I often wait to see what they do and when the dust settles just duplicate their systems. I suspect there is that kind of expertise floating around on GC... :smillie_smilling:

Personally, I favor NewEgg for components followed by Mwave. Tiger Direct is OK but it's saying something that I get little from them even though they have a direct outlet about 40 minutes away.

  4. YEah no more official practices here, not in the past 9 months anyway. I don't mind now, but I think I was the last to not show up at 8:00 any more. I still remember my first practice with the team. Total chaos -like a bunch of freakin' monkeys running around with guns.

I like pubbing now, I can wait till 2k7 for cuase there will be n00bs 100 fold. Remember trying to jump on the manta for a ride [2k4 demo] only to crush yourself when you get multiple flak from your "teamates"?

It was never clear to me that there was a regular time for TWL practice or I'd have tried to be there more often. I wish I'd have joined sooner when everyone was more into it. Of course then I'd have spent a lot more time watching than playing as we weren't desperate just to get a full team.

  5. I wouldnt mind playing against your team for some practice if you need someone. With all the noobs on SCK in the last two days, it'd be a welcoming... welcoming something. Dang, sometimes I wish my diction was ..... what's the word... gooder :)

There doesn't seem to be enough interest do anything meaningful in TWL at this time. I'm up for it if we could enough people to play.

  6. There must be some issues with the master server. This afternoon it seemed like all was well with about the average number of servers coming up and being played. Just now only 2 servers came up and it didn't show Nepenthe though I know Nepenthe is up as it's in my favorite list???

Just finished 1 hour by my lonesome :(

Temerity as our private match server has been supported by just us UT guys - *not* by GC dues (speaking of which, Flitter matching half of the private server is getting to be a bit much given the amount of use its been getting lately (*cough*). Three month bill came and went a few days ago so we are good thru Feb but we need to go to full member support at that point if we want to keep it)

Anyhoo - we *are* going to UT2K7 - when the demo drops, our 18p pub goes away (if it is still around at that point) and become the demo server - once full game is released, demo becomes our 2K7 pub.

    A complete flip over.

Now, if we still want to maintain a 2K4 presence, in whatever fashion, it can be addressed then. Bottom line is as far as GC is concerned, our one pub flips to 2K7 regardless - hopefully this time we will have enough admins and long term leadership in place to keep it going from the start.

This sounds like the way to go with Nepenthe, thanks.

I think you should have asked before paying that 3 month bill for Temerity. I don't see us being able to have enough people for TWL and it seems like kind of a waste. I don't want to see you eat the whole expense though. How much is a 3 month bill and what's a fair share to contribute? Also I believe I used paypal last time but don't remember the email address I sent it to.

  7. I've been keeping an eye on Nepenthe a bit, cause I like to play with y'all, but for the last few weeks I cant find anyone online that is GC let alone on Nepenthe. I've got /-=GC=-/* on my buddy list, but no go. Did everyone die or something?

It has been very slow. It used to be where you could jump on Nepenthe when it was empty and have a host of people joining up in no time. These days I'll jump in sometimes going through 3 or 4 complete maps with no one joining at prime hours.

We really need UT2007 to breath life back into things.

  8. Did you ever install the ECE bonus pack?

Not sure we are redirecting that on the speedy redirect server

let me look - hang on

    -Fk

Yeah - that's bonus pack stuff

Get the mega bonus pack - install that

    http://downloads.unrealtournament.com/ut20...004MegaPack.exe

Then - very important - get the 3369 patch (the link says ut2003 - ignore that - its the real thing) - then install that next

    http://downloads.unrealtournament.com/ut20...inPatch3369.exe

    You'll be all good

    -Fk

Well, I thought I'd already had this stuff installed and I wasn't having problems before vacation but doing as you suggested seems to have fixed my problem.

    Thanks Flitter!

  9. How about some more info to help decide? How much does it cost to support 20 versus 18 versus 16? I agree that things are getting dismal but there are still some good crowds on occasion and I always hear lots of compliments about GC being a good place to play.

I'll be on vacation starting tomorrow for about a week. Good luck with the match.

  10. Hrm screw vacationing in hawaii or alaska, I'm goin to cannons house

These pics are a bit old but here is a typical party at my place taken by a friend of mine:

This is before I started building my big cabinets that support all of the game systems I mentioned previously:

    http://www.ricksgamerepair.com/misc/big_cab.jpg

BTW, I'm the one on the white T-shirt with the "and you're telling me this because?" stuff on the front.

Not just you CF - though you win for sheer quantity (not roms, I mean I saw a pic of your collection... :) )

My 7 foot tall 4 player MAME behemoth is in rebuild mode otherwise I'd throw up a pic or two...

Spinner prices can come down any time now...

    -Fk

I don't have time to deal with this before vacation but I build my own spinners. If you have a wood control panel and the right interface and like mine I can help you out at my cost which is something like $30.

  11. This thread has turned into my expertise. As Primus knows what I do for living keeps these games alive with the emulation systems I put together. You guys haven't mentioned a game yet that I can't walk over and play any time I want home console or arcade. :smillie_smilling:

    My big machine supports:

    MAME 4000+ arcade games

daphne 20 laserdisc games (all that daphne supports)

vpinball 1751 boards (vpinball stands for visual pinball)

PacMAME 100+ (all pacman type games)

Plus a host of home console and PC games:

SNES 3741 roms (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)

NES 8373 roms (Nintendo Entertainment System)

    N64 1003 roms (Nintendo 64 bit)

    Gameboy 5806

    C64 ~18000 (Commadore 64)

    Amiga (several thousand)

    AtariST (several thousand)

    Apple2 1000+

    Vic20 1000+

    Atari 2600 (maybe all) 500+

    Atari 5200 100+

    Atari 7200 (maybe all) 50+

    Vectrex ~100

    Atari 800 100s

    Atari Lynx 100+

    Colecovision 50+

    Nameco22 (1 - Rave Racer)

    PCEngine 100+

    MSX 100+

    Commodore SID (30,000 sound files)

  12. Really snds like a router along the chain to our server has taken a dump on you - pings are fine - no problems otherwise on this end. Yep - tracert and see whats what.

    -Fk

Don't know how to do that...is that a prog?

    TracerT?

I've been running SpeakEasy's bandwidth test, and most times my slowdowns with net coincide with server probs...but sometimes not...that was why I was puzzled.

I suppose I should give Mediacomm high speed an ear-full, but I doubt they give a crap bout me. :boo:

Oh no!!!! Not another Mediacom victim!! :(:(:( I've spent many hours on the phone fighting with them. Here in the extreme western Chicago suburbs Mediacom is growing faster than their network can handle. They've been beefing up things to handle telephone service but not as fast as they should be. Pingplotter as Flitter describes is a good resource because you can monitor your pings over an extended time. Without fail every time Mediacom came out response was fine as they showed up early in the day. Having some Pingplotter log files was good proof that there were bad times for sure. Also, you can ping different sites. If pings are fine to something like yahoo but bad to Nepenthe it's hard to blame Mediacom.

I believe I there was a small fee for Pingplotter.

If you have a router in the house you might try bypassing it and connecting directly to the cable modem. There has been more than once something with my kids PCs was stealing all of the bandwidth.
