I am interested. to be honest half the time I have no idea what my body is burning at the time. I wouldnt use it until I started getting into my excersize routine which I have been putting off. blood weenieing may suck but at least I can get an idea if i am making progress

236 - My weight has fluctuated all week, checked each day at the same point of my morning routines. I actually shot up to around 240 earlier in the week. I was not feeling well all week though, just started to clear up yesterday. I am just surprised that my weight can vary so much day to day, makes my daily check in feel useless, I should just check every other day or something.

FYI, I have not played it, but my brother bought it and I hear him playing it constantly. It sounds addicting, after hearing it for awhile I cant get the beat out of my head. Glad I don't have a PSP, I have enough games to play as it is

I will probably bring my 360 just because I tend to bring it anywhere nowadays, its still all packed up in its travel case. I dont have any party type games for it, just Halo3, CoD4, GTA4, and PGR4.

For me, based on you saying the screen goes blank while "inspecting hardware", my initial reaction is that it's related to your video card. I mean, you always get the warning "screen might flash" blah blah blah. I don't know if you've switched to a newer vid card since you last installed or what. Or maybe it's switching to an unsupported resolution. Either way, if you can boot off ubuntu, then it is more than likely a software issue.

Hah that just reminded me of a problem I had with my voodoo3 back in the day. It would lock up on windows2k if ran in 640x480 for anything more than 30 seconds to a minute. This made installs of windows pretty much impossible, basically I had to install with another video card, download drivers, shut down and race with the lockup to get drivers installed before it locked. once I ran in a more normal 1024x768 res, it would be rock stable for weeks between power cycles. I never was able to figure out why it did that, many different win2k install discs were used over the years at different service pack levels.

A little off topic I know, though I guess it just reinforces the video card theory a little more...

hrm, I still think it sounds familiar to some problems I had with a bad disc awhile ago. However since you have two that ruins that theory. If you are overclocked I would go back to stock for the time being, and remove unnecessary hardware then retry the install.

When the screen goes blank does the cd drive keep reading? Imw ondering if its something simple like changes display output to the other video port, be it VGA or DVI at that point, that has confused me on some older hardware during linux installs.

Which OS? Is the disc a known good disc and undamaged?

or if u play music the same chords are used on guitar amplifiers and things of that such like speakers

We always called it the fear factor. If you did something that put the pucker factor at 10... you didn't do it again (or at least made the move with more caution).

 

Best advice I give to rookies is to learn the limits of your bike. Learn to do nose wheelies, not to show off, but to know the stopping limits of your bike so you know when to stop and when to lay it down. Also, get some track time in at a local track--you'll begin to learn teh limits of your bike (wiggles, brake bias, rebound, dampening, etc).

I agree with all of that, but first I would recommend the motorcycle safety coarse provided in your state. These can teach you the basics of riding safely, and at least in ohio they provide the bike so you don't scar up your own.

Always know the limits of your bike, then stay around 80-90% of them so you have that added buffer should something unexpected happen.

Whats that advantage score compare to? I ignored that 3dmark because of its one run license crap, I wanted to use a benchmark for tweaking.

I hope their drivers have overcome some of the issues I had with them in the past (hl.exe used to crash every day, for example)!

my hl2 still crashes on quit if that's what you're referring too. happens on both ati and nvidia cards.

 

if i could sell my 8800gtx for 300 right now i'd buy one of these 4870s. though i'm really waiting on a 1gb version. i've sworn i'll never go back to 512mb of ram.

My hl never crashed on quit until my new machine with vista, or maybe it always crashed silently on quit so I never noticed? I just kind of figured it's looking at a integer return code from the app, and hl for some reason gives a nonzero response.

Finally got around to tweaking it to as far as I can go without major cooling upgrades.

3DMark06 gave me a rating of 16428, thats with my 2.6ghz cpu clocked at 3.61(seriously, I am amazed!) and I OC's the 9800 by75mhz both cpu and memory. I am content with this config, and I will probably move it closer to stock since I do not actually have a game that needs this performance. But its nice to know I have it here.

for the record, I did need to start upping the core and cpu FSB voltages. I have some idea's on how to get even better cooling and I may revisit this system someday to see how far I can OC, but that will be sometime down the road when I dont look at this pc and have images of so much cash flying out the window...
