  1. Ok...Using Windows 7 and D3d10 let's revisit FarCry2 with the new GTX260 in place.

    Settings: Demo(Ranch Small), 1920x1200 (60Hz), D3D10, Fixed Time Step(No), Disable Artificial Intelligence(No), Full Screen, Anti-Aliasing(4x), VSync(Yes), Overall Quality(Custom), Vegetation(Very High), Shading(Very High), Terrain(Very High), Geometry(Very High), Post FX(High), Texture(Very High), Shadow(Very High), Ambient(High), Hdr(Yes), Bloom(No), Fire(Very High), Physics(Very High), RealTrees(Very High)

    * Total Frames: 2246, Total Time: 51.02s

    * Average Framerate: 44.02

    * Max. Framerate: 59.94 (Frame:327, 6.32s)

    * Min. Framerate: 35.16 (Frame:1756, 40.36s)

    Ahhh...now compare to the 8800 GT in sli same settings.

    * Total Frames: 1633, Total Time: 51.00s

    * Average Framerate: 32.02

    * Max. Framerate: 59.22 (Frame:276, 6.17s)

    * Min. Framerate: 14.02 (Frame:1400, 42.15s)

    Much more playable with the larger memory buffer on the GTX 260, when it comes to using 4x AA.

    Cujo was right again. Although I am amazed at the difference in minimum. More to come later.

    I will try running in D3d9 and see what a diff that makes.

    Settings: Demo(Ranch Small), 1920x1200 (60Hz), D3D9, Fixed Time Step(No), Disable Artificial Intelligence(No), Full Screen, Anti-Aliasing(4x), VSync(No), Overall Quality(Custom), Vegetation(Very High), Shading(Very High), Terrain(Very High), Geometry(Very High), Post FX(High), Texture(Very High), Shadow(Very High), Ambient(High), Hdr(Yes), Bloom(No), Fire(Very High), Physics(Very High), RealTrees(Very High)

    * Total Frames: 2029, Total Time: 51.02s

    * Average Framerate: 39.77

    * Max. Framerate: 58.69 (Frame:306, 6.45s)

    * Min. Framerate: 31.72 (Frame:1556, 38.99s)

    I can't believe it...I'd pretty much read that this is the only game that performs worse in DX9 than 10...for me, it's only a 10% delta...so no big deal.

    Here are two eVGA 8800 GT KO superclocked cards. This is the 65 nm G92 core with a 512 MB frame buffer. Each comes factory overclocked with the core running at 650mhz and the DDR3 memory running @ 1950mhz.

    Both cards are in excellent shape, with no damage whatsoever. I bought them a bit over a year ago to run the likes of Crysis, UT3, Oblivion, etc...

    To give you a rough performance run-down with 4GB of DDR2 and a core2duo e8400 I was getting:

    * 16,015-16,143 in 3DMark06

    *Avg. 75 fps (demo) at 1920 x 1200 with no AA or AF, all details Medium in Crysis

    *Avg. 41 fps at above specs with all details High in Crysis

    *Avg. 32 fps at 1920 x 1200 with 4x AA and all details at high/very high in FarCry2

    *Avg. 50 fps at 1920 x 1200 with 8x AA and 16x AF with all details maxed in HL2 ep. 2

    *Avg. 90 fps at 1920 x 1200 with no AA all details maxed in UT3

    These cards can run warm, but I use RivaTuner to set fan speeds at 80%, and that keeps them in the mid 60s C at my house.

    I would love to sell as a set, but am willing to do individually as well. PM me and we can wheel and deal on price. I have this on Craigslist as well...so...

  3. ya, start using vantage.

    edit - some day i'll get around to running it...

    Free version of it?

    OLD setup:

    3DMark06 overall:

    16,015 3dmarks

    cpu: 3175

    sm2: 7325

    sm3: 8293

    New (GTX 260 core 216)

    3DMark06 overall:

    15,571 3dmarks

    cpu: 3170

    sm2: 7281

    sm3: 7731

    So it looks like the general FPS in 3dmark is comparable, but the sm3 is a good 8% lower.

    I will try some real world benches soon.

    Can't wait to try SLI with these, but this card is freakin loooooooong!

  4. So i got my upgrades in and it gave me a nice bumb in 3Dmark:

    Score: 15660

    2.0 score: 7342

    3.0 Score: 7608

    CPU Score: 3266

    e8400 OC to 3.8 at 1.23v and the new gtx260 help a lot.

    I am happy!

    I am curious, about this, because in a couple of days I will post my new 3D mark scores with my new GTX 260 core 216.

    This was my previous with my e8400 at 3.4 ghz

    3DMark06 overall:

    16,015 3dmarks

    cpu: 3175

    sm2: 7325

    sm3: 8293.

    That is with SLI of 2 x 8800 GT.

    I will post up my gain/loss with the single card.

    btw...I plan to get the SLI going again with another GTX 260 once I sell the old 8800's.

  5. This could easily work for teachers...

    only (and I don't have photoshop...so)

    Guy in the hole: teacher

    People outside the hole:

    Superintendent

    Assistant superintendent

    Principal

    Assistant principal

    SLC director

    Department chair

    Student

    Parent

    hmm....

  6. Well, I pulled the trigger on this the other day.

    It was even cheaper when I bought it, Tuesday...$184.99 with $30 MIR.

    Never used MSI before, but reviews were solid and I saw two full articles on the core 216 from EVGA that was oc'd to 624 core...This GPU is oc'd to 655 core. Basically it was running the same fps as the gtx 280 in most games up until 2560 x 1600 with the AA turned all the way up.

    Pretty excited to see if this makes a difference in really demanding games like Crysis, Far Cry2, and Fallout3 versus the 2 x 8800 GT (G92) that I run now.

    If my ducks are in a row, I will sell the 8800 GTs and buy a second for SLI. AnAndTech had a really good review of the new gtx 285, gtx 295, and the oc'd gtx 260...It was the gtx 260 sli setup FTW or neck in neck with the gtx 295 and 4870 x2 in a lot of their real world benches. Right good, I'd say.

    We'll see.

  7. new still in the box, I got a great deal on the 850 model the day after I ordered the 750 so I am trying to see if someone wants it before I send it back.

    Here is the link for it.

    I would say $100 shipped. let me know.

    Specs say "4 pci-e"

    are those 6 pin? or 2) 6 pin and 2) 8 pin?

    And...your personal opinion cause, I think it might be borderline: you think this would run 2 x GTX 260 in SLI?

  8. Sad thing about FO3 extra content is you have to pay for it. I didn't do Op. Anchorage.

    Secondly: why don't my graphics look that good? wow.

  9. I use a Dell 24" 2405FPW @ 1920 x 1200 and it looks and performs great.

    (8800GTX vid card)

    I plan on jumping to the Dell 30" 3008WFP and it supports 2560 x 1600 native res.

    Dell can compete with anyone when it comes to monitors.

    Hook me up with a job like yours!

    Dell 30" !???

    Nice.

    I rock the Dell 2407 and I love 1920 x 1200. Check your monitor manufacturer for compatibility...but if it is the above res...it should be able to play HD content full screen (with little little bars top and bottom) as well as games at standard rez. I don't know many games that do 1920 x 1080...

    Better than rez is the type of panel, the color gamut, backlighting bleed etc...those will be more important.

  10. Yeah, I dl'd both the patch (install that first) and the titan pack this morning.

    Then I remembered that I'm not quite sure where the game actually is in this hovel right now.

    -Fk

    LOL, you will have to enter your DVD key again.

    LO and behold, I got to play for 1/2 hour just now. Better experience than before. The game feels sharper. I had everything at max on my SLI system and was running in the 90s. That was only on "instant action." I tried to get on servers and found only one in my ping range (sub 100) that wasn't password protected or unoccupied. That sucks.

    The true test for me will be if it feels blurry and sluggish on populated servers like it used to. I had those crazy, inexplicable FPS losses (like 90%) on heavily pop servers for certain maps.

    It does feel more crisp, but there are still times when you go "w-t-f just killed me?"

  11. so is this the "patch" for the game?

    Its a free expansion pack.

    http://www.beyondunreal.com/articles/titan-pack-reveal

    I phrased that poorly. I know this is an expansion pack, but what I want to know is if it is also a patch, since it comes in two parts. Cuz, wasn't the news last 2 weeks about a patch to fix many errors etc...? I know we had a thread about that.

    *edit

    http://www.beyondunreal.com/view_story.php?id=12525

    the patch is patch 2.0...but I guess I was wondering if patch and expansion released together...

    no news on that.

  12. Why are you installing drivers?? I have 780i w/ 8800gt and xfi sound card. The ONLY drivers I have installed are for the XFI card. Vista comes with the drivers you need for mobo, and GFX, there is a driver for the GFX through win update, that will say it phailed upon install, but if you reboot, it works. Unless you are using equipment that you have to install drivers for, I would not install any. ie You plug in your onboard ethernet/sound and it works w/o a hitch. On XP for example, you would have to have the drivers.

    I have 2 8800GT in SLI. Windows stock drivers do not support SLI (from all observations at least, I couldn't figure out how to enable...), not only that, but I couldn't get any gpu fan controller programs to work with the stock windows drivers. I got the same fail on update install of new gpu drivers, and I did reboot, but they still didn't install. The only reason I installed chipset drivers was as a last resort to see if that was the prob. Nope.

    Man, I think I'm jinxed. Thanks for your input though. I may just wipe and reinstall, then try again.

    I wonder if a bios update would help?

  13. Ok...to summarize.

    I cannot play any games (see previous posts) after install of latest vista 64 bit drivers for gpu and chipset.

    Every single game will run through the intro movie type crap...then will hang on loading of first level.

    Tried so far:

    crysis/warhead

    bioshock

    farcry 2

    not tried fallout 3.

    I know that everyone has said run with admin privs, etc...but I can't even use quicklaunch or desktop icons to get game up and running. I have to load game DVD and wait for autorun to kick in...then, I have no option to run .exe as admin etc.

    any suggestions?
