  1. How long do you guys figure s939 cpu's will be available? I'm taking a peak at the 4800+ at the moment, and wondering how much longer they'll be available. I want to wait for as long as I can, but I dont want them to disappear on me! :D I know it'll be a while, but how long of a while do you all wager?

  2. Bought F.E.A.R. today, and played a couple levels. I am currently running at stock speeds for everything (2.2ghz) and maxed EVERYTHING w/ 1152x864 res (cause my monitor doesnt support the one higher one :bang: )

    FPS:

    min - 35

    average - 66

    max - 155

    FPS distribution:

    0% below 25

    13% btwn 25 and 40

    87% above 40

I then changed to what I like the looks of better - everything the same except Textrure Filtering at 8x

    FPS distro:

    min - 34

    average - 77

    max - 175

    FPS dist:

    0% < 25

    25 < 8% < 40

    92% > 40

Maybe I'll try with OC some time soon. Should boost them both a bit (though I dont really feel like need it)

  3. Dang! They just want you to buy of course, haha smart marketing.

    DOESNT PROVIDE PHANTOM POWER!?!?!? :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

    WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?!?

Wow. That blows me out of the water. K, there's no way i'm buying that. My condenser needs phantom. BTW, thanks for letting me know that. I was gonna check before I bought, but now I dont have to. Wow. that's like selling a built computer without a heatsink. Stupid. :bang::bang:

On a lighter note, I'm glad you're enjoying recording. Some saturdays when I record I'll start at 10 am and then realize i'm getting hungry at about 7 or 8 pm :D

  4. Im not sur you should!

Yu already have a decent card for the input right?

And its asio compatible with low latency isnt it?

Just make sure your cubase is set up to recieve it in asio format and you shuld be good to go. If you use the fast track, you have to selct it INSTEAD of your card so...

True, but my card doesnt support xlr input. I'd have to get an adapter :erm: or something else to put it into my card. If i get something else (or use my behrninger eurorack) then i get (or can get) static from the extra wires. $100 is not a lot... but maybe you're right. Well, its somethign to consider anyway for the future. :D

  5. got it

    works.

GT player distortion: yup weak. Good tone, no attack

Was interesting to get it all back to onboard sound for tonight but got there.

    Came with:

    Gt player express

    Abletone live 5

    Sessions

Maudio Protools 7 (trial of course)

currently at 11 ms delay at max quality. Not too bad I guess.

    Itll do for $90!

Awesome! I'll have to get me one of them now! :boing::boing::D

  6. BTW, I ran prime95 for just over 2 hours and 0 errors, max 36 temperature.

As for RAM, this is all the info in my bios. Not sure what some of it means though  ... actually, what most of it means.

    Memclock - 400MHz

    Cas# latency Tcl - 3

    Min Ras# active time (Trans) - 7T

    Ras# to Cas# delay (Trcd) - 4T

Row Precharge time (Trp) - 3T

Row cycle time (Trc) - 16T

Row refresh cyctime (Trfc) - 18T

    Read-to-write (Trwt) - 5T

Write recovery time (Twr) - 3T

    1T/2T mem timing - 2T

    S/W DRAM over 4G remapping - enabled

    H/W DRAM over 4G remapping - enabled

Also: DDR voltage set to auto. I would assume that means 2.6. I read in some forums that OCZ ram likes 2.7 a little more, so could that be it? Yup, feelin' the noobishness atm... :bang:

  7. sounds like your current ram is unstable at current speeds. have you run dual 32mb super pi?

if it's the ram then change your divider in bios so your ram is clocked lower.

I'll check out the bios. Currently RAM is set to auto for timings/speed (400 is the speed i do believe). (32mb super pi... )

  8. use the highest multiplier possible unless you want your ram higher.

And with the ram you suggested I get I would assume this would have a high possibility of success? :D

I DL'd 3dmark06 but it wouldnt install. "Critical error" or something. So i downloaded from a different site, same thing. I need to reinstall windows (and the legal copy i have at that) i think. sigh. but it takes so much time...

Sounds like you are having too many errors Dark, How long did you have the system before you overclocked?

I would make sure the system is stable at factory default speeds for about a week before I would clock it up.

Too me seems like a memory problem. Try this out http://www.memtest86.com/ and see what it says. I was having some issues similar to yours and this program is built ito my BIOS. It told me one of my sticks was bad so I replaced it. Everything running smooth now.

Really? I've had this thing at default for about 4 weeks, then jacked stuff up a little bit. This windows seems to have been giving me a little bit of trouble from teh start, and i just figured it was stupid things going more wrong with it. But it could be as you say i suppose. I'll check taht program out

    Thanks!

  9. use the highest multiplier possible unless you want your ram higher.

  10. Thanks for the info on the purple.

My voltage atm is 1.35 I do believe. It was set in the bios and I havent changed it ever (though it's not on auto, it's on manual). 1.35v @ 2.54 at one point, and it still loaded windows and ran it for about 1/2 hour before i restarted and downclocked it (just so that I could beat my roomy's P4 @ 2.53 for fun :D)

Found out why my pc froze when I installed X-Fi platinum: my dvd burner. Whenever i put in a dvd it would freeze my pc. So i uninstalled it in system devices, restarted, then reinstalled it. It's fine now and X-Fi is beautiful! Now to get that usb key working...

What's the diff between using an 11 multiplier and a 10 with different cpu utilization amounts?

  11. When installing my X-Fi card, i downclocked to about 2.42ghz. I ran the stress test again(CS:S), 2xAA and 4xAF @ 1280x1024 (vsync off, dunno if that matters or which is better). I also had adobe audition running (rec sofware) with about 20 files open in it, Norton still running, etc.

I got 155.8 average fps. It went up... hmm... dunno why? I even had another program running.

I then bumped EVERYTHING to max and got 148.8 fps average. Though, some things were bright purple and they werent supposed to be... ???

I tried restarting CS:S and ran the test again. Purple was gone, but fps went down to 144.7, which I'm just fine with by the way :D

Where can i find a copy of 3DMark06?

Edit: I had audition running for all of the tests.

  12. Got my card today, had 1/2 hour to install it. I put it in the pc, went into bios and disabled onboard sound, booted to windows, popped in the cd, FROZE.

Restarted, downclocked to 2.42 from 2.49, (220x11), booted up, got in and put on the drivers, works fine so far.

My optical cord is only 6' though :bang: which means i need another 6' of it to reach my receiver. I'll test it out for the headphones tonight though in unreal :D

So far no annoying hiss/clicks that come wiht onboard haha :peace:

Maybe do a little recordding tomorrow. But i'm still liking the sound of the fast track!

    Currently installing software...

  13. I have some weird glitch for unreal, so when i try to view fps it tells me i've got about 45 000 000 average. Yeah, dont think my gtx is that good :P

Every once in a while it'll show about 100-120 correctly for average, on any of the maps. I think dawn is averaging about 100 or so. Never seen it under 80. The loading screens get me over 500 :D :D

I think for OCing I'm running 226x11 at the moment. I do notice a significant decrease in load times compared to the 2.2 , but i'm happy as is for the moment. Idle at 29 still with hottest reaching about 35.

Bush: I dont like to turn everything to max in every game anyway. Sometimes I like some of it down a little to get more of a 'real' look to it - not so cartoony. Besides, you always woop my pph anyway :bang::D

  14. Will download that AVG soon. I tried to DL it, and it did, but then it said some files were corrupt. Personally I've been getting that a lot lately, and i think it's the genuine window's crap doing it. I have a legal copy though! just not installed on it yet...

I knew there was a reason I always hated norton... besides, I dnt even download anything.

Yes I have 2xAA and 8xAF on for UT2k4 but I don't see any glitches and doesnt make a fps difference. I also run at 1152x864 res. I know its a wierd res but I can get 85hz sync at that and if I go any higher res my old montor drops to 75hz and it killz me eyes.

K, just curious. Ryan (my roomy) was getting some glitches, but he has a 9600 all in wonder, and an old hp he's using.

I'm using 75hz and yeah, it hurts after a while :(

  15. So I've been using my Verbatim U3 usb key (2 gigs) for the last week and it's been great. Plenty of room. Today I go and plug it in at school to get my C programming files off to bring them home and when i plugged it into my pc it froze. I mean, completely froze it. I tried it on my roommates, and it's fine on his, so i transferred the files to a separate key i have and that worked fine. Therefore, it's not the usb key itself, cause it worked on my roomy's, it's not the files, cause they're on my pc now, and it's not my usb. What the heck is it???

I installed some nero yesterday that came with my dvd burner (including InCD etc). Could these conflict with eachother somehow to make my usb key not work? Note: it came with some form of software that opens automatically when you plug it in, called U3 or something like that.

  16. Audition seems to have things kind of "done for you" ifyou know what I mean, taht cubase you'd have to do yourself. It's very straight forward, there's a tonne of options for fx and they're VERY configurable and customizable, save your own presets, etc etc. You have 144 blank tracks sitting there waiting to be filled (i think this is the max, though i've never broke 20).

I've also slowed a song. You can choose to slow it w/out losing pitch, or you can slow pitch too, or jsut drop pitch, whatever you want pretty much you can do with audition. I dont think there's much if anythign that you can do with v-instruments (though i prefer the sound of real ANYDAY) but then taht's expensive.

Yeah, i'd assume fasttrack would work with it, i think i'll get it.

Laz: you can choose input to record with in your software options so i doubt you'dneed to go disable onboard sound every time. Just select the device you want to record with in the software.

I'd assume also that the quality would not be bad at all with the 48. Sounds good enough to me, but anonymo might have a say in that...
