  1. I have the same vid card, and I got the same "not enough power" nvidia message shortly before my PSU gave it up amd croaked.

    Im still thinking underpowered psu.

Can you post the specs on your new one?

    Its the top one

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...alTake_456.html

not as bad as I had feared, but not great. As I understand it, the 6600 and 6800 use more power than the 7800 and up. Nvidia had **lowered** the PS requirement to 30amps for an sli system. You just barely meet that requirement with that psu, but you arent running two cards.

I gotta step out and leave it to the more techie people. Still sounds PSU'ish to me.

BTW, heres a list of recommended PSUs from DFI ( makers of OCing motherboards). Dont read the whole thing, just the first list.

Heh. I got the third one down last week. Havent used it yet, but i guess it was a good one (enermax 600 sli)

  2. How much of a difference does the 2mb cache make compared to the 1? I mean, I've been looking at the 4200 and 4400, and (on the prices i see) it's almost 150 more for the 2mb 4400. What does this extra mb help with exactly? Like, the difference between 80 and 90 fps is not noticable at all, is this along those same lines? Can someone please educate me? I dont want to waste money...

  3. dark archon, that case is about 4 years old! send it back! get a newer case with 120mm fans. they move a lot more air and are a lot quieter. i've built a system with that case before and it's not one of my favourites.

LOL! Guy ordered me the wrong case. He got me the lanfire instead of the v2000a i wanted. Now i told him to take it back and decided instead to go for the armour w/ the 25cm side fan and window. Thanks guy(s)

  4. X-Razer!!

It's always a pleasure! Fraggin' against or alongside (but more pleasurable along side - games a little easier then :P) :D Nice to see you here too, and i'm currently working/purchasing pieces for my new pc that i will build this summer :D Then maybe with more than 20 frames i can do a bit better against ya! ;)

Yep, looking forward to GC... er... 2k7 that is. We'll see what happens when it comes out. First thing's first! :D

  5. dark,

    YAAA protools rocks indeed!!!

Ya alot of musicians do use macs but Pc's are starting to move in. Since the p4 and amd64 have such g5 like power at lower costs many home musicians are finding pcs are the better route.

I havent used audition. If I could I'd go sonar as I like it a bit more than pro-tools for it's midi and recording interface however Tools has all the STUFF!!!! EXPENSIVE!

Most Pc DAWS are using a p4 but I have seen some 64amd's on sale as well.

I'm using Cubase VST32 as SX lacks drag and drop midi files from any VST. That means any midi groove file from RMX has to be brought in through the file menu!!! YUK!

yea I've been in other studios (mostly pro-tools).

Dude have you seen digital performer on the mac. NICE!!! it's right there with tools. They've got this hit point midi feature for video syncing that ROCKS!

anyhow do you have any VST's or GS. Kontact is Gigastudio copy.

fill me on on what you do.

    Aug

I'm not heavy into the recording yet, just dabbling in it for now (as far as teh engineering and production goes... i have the musicianship part down pat :D )

I'm not sure what comes with audition. I am using Boss's 770 though for programming at the moment, but no midi. I simply record it real time. I prefer that cause then you get a bit more of a "real" sound as it's never repeated lines...

I just uploaded a "soft" sample of my stuff to my site (check sig) and I have just finished the last song for my cd that i've beenworking on for 2 years. The song on the site is crap bitrate for size purposes, and my sister is going to be the singing, i just wanted a template to work with. Anyway, that's it for now. GL with your new pc (or soon to be) !

  6. I also run a "recording studio" out of my appartment for my own works. How many tracks are you putting through cubase? I'm using adobe audition, but have also used cubase. I know my pc is old but im running 14+ stereo tracks and it starts to bog down pretty bad. I do also know that audition isnt the easiest on my hardware. However, I've recorded at various studios and the best ones are using mac's... though i'm sure you dont want to go that route, neither do i!

However, the second best that I've been to have been ones with amd cores. Of course these are running pro tools and the likes, not cubase or audition, but dang they run it well. Have you been to other studios to see what they're using and what works for them too? How many tracks are you running? waht bitrate? that all changes stuff too for the audio.

this is simply out of curiosity :halo:

  7. Well, I'm now still leaning towards the Premium. I hate the layout of that other board unfortunately. Especially if i eventually have dual 7900 gtx's. Then i'd have one CRAMPED pci slot left, which makes no sense to me. very poor design imho :(

  8. Hmmm... I'll have to ponder a bit more then. First off, I'm in Canada, so I cant order NewEgg :bang: stupid newegg... what were they thinking!!!! they could make a lot more money if only they'd ship to canada...

So I suppose I'll check around for price differences here, and see what I can come up with. Again, thanks.

  9. Thanks Cobalt! Yeah, I am now officially sold on the Premium to be sure! :D

Yes, new pc it is (except case of course, remember i'm the xaser 3 dude) ;)

NOFX, thanks, but i do want something to last the next few years, not just 1 or 2 :P, and the hobo thing... yeah it was just a play on words. Luckily i'm not a hobo... or am i????

    Thanks again Cobalt!!!!!!

  10. So I've been looking at both Asus's Deluxe and Premium boards. I think I like the layout of the premium a little more, but can you guys give me some thoughts on them? I cant decide which one to get out of the two. BTW, for the deluxe it's the one WITHOUT the fan cooled chipset that I was looking at.

Incase it matters, I will be using my pc for gaming, of course, but also for music rec and production, probably a little bit of graphics (video editting, etc) and the like. I like to use my pc for a lot of different things. I'd appreciate some guidance! :D thanks

    -Dark.

  11. Oh i'm sure you guys know more about it than me, but the price was right for one. I'm a student :(

I also liked the looks of it. Maybe I'll end up regretting it, but on the flip side the only thing i have to compare it to at the moment is my old pc. I'd like to live and learn this time i suppose... Thanks for the advice though, and feel free to keep it comin'! It IS my first build! :halo:

  12. Hehehhe...in the end that IS all that matters!

:D:spin2: Yep!!! All the eye candy in the world cant make you good!!!! (though, i know it DOES help a lot. I feel left behind... :( )

But not to worry, the new system will be built this summer! Idea (in the making)

    -Xazer III V100A case (Thermaltake)

-700watt psu (not sure brand yet)

    -7900gtx

    -Asus A8N Premium

    -X2 4400+

    -2GB (2x1GB) PC3200

    -X-Fi Elite Pro

Something like that. Not set in stone yet... though I have already ordered the Chassis! :D

FYI I do use my comp for much more than gaming. I also (sort of) run a rec. studio in my appartment. A small sample of the music I do (I play it all) is here. That's why I am interested in the Elite Pro. I rec with Adobe Audition 1.5 software, LineVI Spider 2 2x12, refitted squier with EMG's (I love the action), BCRich Beast bass, and my crappy crappy comp. Oh yeah, program with Boss's 770. I can play drums, but not at these speeds. :(

  13. Dell 4500 (5 years old soon!)

    -P4 2GHz

    -1 GB Ram (2x512 @ 266)

    -nVidia 6200oc 256 BFG

    -HD 1:40GB Maxor stock

    -HD 2:120GB WD

    -Creative Audigy

    -Mon 1:19"NEC 8ms RT

    -Mon 2:17"Dell CRT

-Behringer Eurorack UB1202 Sound Board for mic input

-Custom Senheizer headset mic (modified by me to fit on my headphones)

    -Sony 6.1 755watt HTS

    -Sony MDR-XD200 phones

    -Microsoft Media keys

    -Logitech G5

OOOOOLLLLLDDDDD!!!!!! And slow, but I can still give Bushwack, Wentz and Lex a run for their money in UT2k4 Ons @ 20-25fps ;)

  14. Yes I have heard of them before too! I do like them.

For the ogg files I simply dl'd them then used a free download (4musics ogg to wma converter) which you can simply google and find that way. Ogg files are like mp3 except smaller and better quality. I recommend anything from the covanent progress or viel of rememberance. Most of the rest are taken live with CRAP quality.

You can find a sample of my stuff at my site, and Sympathy here.

  15. LOL Wentz - more like the other way around :D

And thanks guys. Ola has been spying on me and has already found this thread :P and seeing as EternlShadow is my roommate, i just yelled into the other room for him lol.

Sweet deal. Hoping to have a good summer, so if things go as planned it will be!

Anyone here like metal? I mean, either black or death... :peace:

I might get on the servers tonight, hopefully...

  16. Sweet, thanks Flitter

I'll just take the sig out for now until i resize it, no problemo!

I am planning on building a new machine this summer, and I know the new one will run ut2k7. As it stands i can only run 2k4 at about 15-25 fps (25 being a good day and map),so i'm really looking forward to the new machine. Im still pretty happy with mine right now, as it's pushing 5 years this fall :D

Thanks for the welcome and offer, one that i shall most certainly keep in mind!

  17. Hey guys, just joined the forum and thought I'd drop a line to say hello. "Hello."

GG's tonight once again, i must admit. I am gonna be gone for the summer, but I should be able to get a few frags out of you yet in the next week... :D
