  1. Could be a number of things.  You made reference to your hardware being 8 or so years old. That is pretty old and most likely the electronic components are breaking down. Could be the motherboard. Could be the PSU. It could be the battery. I am leaning towards the motherboard.

It may be time to upgrade.

  2. I am selling my Gigabyte Windforce AMD 290 card. I recently paid off my car and got my GAP insurance refund which paid for a new card so now I am selling this thing. I've had ZERO problems with the card and it ran every game I threw at it without issue.  These cards sell brand new for around the $290 mark and I am asking $150 shipped. It has the original box, disc, and power adapter cables. It's in perfect condition. I just took a few pictures.

Here it is sitting on top of the box before placing it in the static bag and boxing it up.

Here it is sitting below the box in my chair. I just took these pictures on my phone a few minutes ago.

  3. Depends on the games really. Most games will play just fine on AMD CPUs without a hitch (maybe a few fps difference) but some games those few fps make all the difference. I personally prefer the AMD stuff for budget minded builds but currently run an Intel system while I wait for the next gen AMD stuff to see how it performs.

Just picked up a Vulcan 900.  Decided to upgrade from my V-Star 650 as I had outgrown it .. I really wanted a Harley Nightster but Harley prices in Canada are through the freakin roof .. This will hold me off till next season

edit 2008 with 4700km's (the previous owner barely used it)

That's a nice ride. Too bad you are not closer to me; I am selling my 2004 Softail Standard. Cleaning up my finances and I don't ride like I used to.

  5. I stopped playing for a bit because I was never on when others were and I still had a lot of learning to do. I plan on trying to get in to it again soon.

Add me on Steam and I will play with you. It's boring running around alone and makes you more of a target to boot.

  6. I noticed no one seems to be playing or at least playing when I do. I got my co-worker to upgrade his PC after 8 years and play this with me.  We are on Wastes and currently near the location of our old base. He hasn't died yet.  We ran from south-west most corner of the map to Pleasant Valley, i got a Quest item along with shotty and ar-15 and ammo. Now I have the new found bow. Let's do this!

  7. My work colleague and I are still on Wastes. Not sure if that is where everyone (if anyone is still playing) is currently still playing. I am showing him how to play and in 2 hours of play, I got a quest item from outside of the church for the chest near the church. I got a shotgun with ammo and some ar15 ammo. Then we found an AR 15 while heading north-east. He's new but up for playing with us IF we are still playing this game. We stole a police car from a base in Pleasant Valley.

  8. May I recommend a Carbonite account, good Sir.

or iDrive which I like because you can set your password for encryption. There's also "Crashplan" which has integration into a ton of different NAS devices. Yes, I am again about the NAS devices. Great central place in your house to store local backups and then from there backup what is most important to the cloud.

Edit:  The cool thing about Crashplan is that it's free if you don't want to backup to the cloud. If you have a machine at your mom's or something like that, you can have your stuff backup to it and you can make that your offsite backup.  They also have an unlimited cloud plan which may be worth it.

  9. I always do a back-up before everything is loaded, then after the loading is is complete - think I will have to buy another external hard drive soon

The other question remains - to update or not with the windows crap - computer is working fine - i don't want to go through 141 windows updates - are they really necessary?

Not necessary if you do not care about a drive-by malware infection that results in you having to do all of this again... again. Sounds like you need a new computer if it is taking you 6 hours to download 3 programs.  Are you on dial-up?  If so, take it to work or some  place with public wifi or a friends house and borrow his bandwidth.  Then use the built-in backup of Windows 7/8 and do a full backup to an external drive and then back that up to a NAS.

  10. It's re-installing so much software that is the time killer - took me almost 10 days to sort out last time when my poor old XP's CPU blew up.  I always do regular backups on an external Hard Drive, hundreds of CD/DVDs  and 2 Laptops - dread the thought of losing over 800 GBs of compositions, nearly 1 TB video production disappearing into the blackhole of cyberspace.

    Thanks

If that stuff is that important, I would not trust a single usb backup to it. Pick up a NAS unit that has at least 4 drives in it for RAID 5 or some hybrid RAID that Drobo or Synology or some other company uses.

Or spend the money on something like idrive.com and back it up off site.

  11. They patched today that fixes bases a great deal. Multi level. Gate is much taller. Etc. I would play more but with 2 little ones staying with us right now, I just don't have the time.

I'm also frustrated that my 3rd base got abandoned by everyone and then got raided of everything and a new door put on that I cannot open. No one has shared where the new base is and I may try to get to it or rebuild if time permits. I think the cheating is still an issue with teleporters and no-clip weenies.

  12. I've been working at a government agency for the last several months and have very limited access with my work laptop. They do have an "open" wifi connection though and it allows me to connect via a VPN. I picked up a cheap Asus tablet with detachable keyboard for around $300 and it being a Windows 8.1 tablet, it works great. I get around 12 hours of use out of it depending on the use, etc. It's plenty fast and portable. You cannot game on it in any serious way but plenty fine for simple web games.

This is what I got: http://www.amazon.com/Transformer-T100TA-C1-RD-Detachable-Touchscreen-Laptop/dp/B00KX8ONZ2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1423677292&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+8.1
