  1. In college I hated beer. In college, beer means: MGD, Miller light, Michelob, etc if you're lucky; otherwise its whatever brand has a 24 pack of cans on sale for 5 bucks.

There are many more styles of beer than our traditional Pilsner (yuck). I find that the style of beer I like are typically Amber or darker. Bass, Harp, James Page (both their Amber and Brown), New Castle Brown Ale, Guinness, or Black & Tan or Black & Brown. Oh -- and don't let me forget India Pale Ale -- yum!

Yay. There are some bars where you can order little mini samplers of a few style of beer to see what you like.

  2. Well, I opened it up last night to see if the fans were running. The fans on the video card, processor, and power supply were all running. The front 90 mm case fan was running, but the rear 120 mm that pulls heat out of the case was not. It was not connected to power.

I blew everything out with some compressed air, plugged the fan back in and hopefully this is the fix. Thanks!

Do you know what kind/spec of the power supply you have?

    COOLMAX CX-450 ATX 450W

  3. Sometimes I'll be playing CS and my screen will go completely black and the machine will reboot. This just started happening about in the last month or so. The machine is about 3 years old --

    motherboard: ASUS A7V8X-X

processor: AMD Athalon XP Barton 2600

    video card: MSI GF4 TI-TD8X 8900-060

    RAM: 1G Kingston ValueRAM

    Windows XP

Any ideas -- I have 2, although I'm not sure how to verify either.

    A. My video card is going bad

    B. My memory is going bad

I like the memory idea better -- since CS is about the only memory intensive app I ever run on the machine -- and I think I bought really cheap RAM. Also, occasionally (less frequent) CS will die with a memory read error. Anyone know how to verify either of these -- or other ideas?

  4. It seems to me that playing on the server has been helping. I've found that if I log in and stick around, it doesn't take long to get a 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 game going; and it takes actual players to attract other players. Last couple of nights, I've seen a few repeat (non gc) players. Several of them even stuck around after the server switched away from Assault -- for 4 maps even!. I don't know, but I'd guess that those repeats aren't random and they have the server bookmarked. What doesn't help is playing on Retro and hoping someone else will do the work of getting a game going on Immut.

That said, I logged in and played a few rounds on Retro last night -- because I craved a full game; Considering that I really believe in the custom maps or even the not so common stock maps -- I feel so ashamed :boo:

  5. Played 1.4 - 1.6 on PDDS and then Hexapalooza when PDDS went down.

Bought source as soon as it came out, but didn't play much because I couldn't find a server that I liked.

Started playing regularly again when I found GC.

  6. Ahh, not really a leading question. I really prefer to play on IMMUTABLE -- because of the custom maps. Lately when I log in and there are no other players -- there is nothing to do because no bots are playing. I'll sit there for about 30 minutes max running around shooting random map junk until I get fed up and go over to Retro. If there were bots to play against, I'd probably stay longer and with any luck, maybe a game would start :D

  7. are you an indie developer...and what's your flavor?

Not an indie developer ... I mostly write in Java -- for a computer-based testing company.

  8. Well, I can't seem to find the "Welcome Mat" that was mentioned in the response to my joining. So I figure I will post something here instead. I just joined last night. I play as "Mostly Harmless" -- note the space. There is someone else with a similar name but without the space. :P

I may just play as my old character name -- "Bewildered", but I really love the Douglas Adams reference. I've played here for about 4 months. Simply put, the reason I joined is that I've been searching for a community like this for a very long time -- since Purdue Doug's Death Shack went down for the last time. I like the community here and I don't want to see it disappear.

In life, I'm a software developer from Minneapolis, Minnesota; and for the two or three days per year that it isn't winter, I'm an avid cyclist. Hope to see you in the game!
