  1. Ok, went by the Apple store. They determined the hd was borked. They said they would replace it under the Apple Extended Care and reload the OS for me if I wanted them to. But, they would only put the same size hd that it had. And I would have to leave it for the day and hope they had time to get to it. And they would do it free of charge. Well I had already purchased a new bigger hd that I wanted to use. And they were fine with that. I asked if they had anyway I could get my files off my existing hd. They wouldn't really help with this, because they don't offer that service any longer. But, they let me borrow one of their external hd's with a boot system on it to get my mac up and running. I was then able to hook up my external hd and copy all my files from the borked hd to my external drive. I just installed the new hd and am in the process of reloading the OS.

Quite the learning experience. After I get everything back to normal, I will do a backup. Then create my own boot system on another external hd in case I should need to do this again. Thumbs up to the folks at the Apple Store.

  2. So I ran Onyx on my MacBook and while it was verifying the startup drive. It said it was corrupt and to repair it by booting from the OS X install and using Disk Utility. I booted from the install disk. Ran Disk Utility and it aborted halfway thru saying it can't repair the drive. That I needed to backup all my files and reformat the drive. Then re-install OS. Problem is, it will no longer boot up when I restarted it. Just sits there at the gray apple screen with the spinning wheel below it. Is there any way I can retrieve my files? Or do I go forward with the reformat & install OS. Then restore what I can from a 3 month old Time Machine backup?

Any and all help is appreciated

  3. Oh.. wait. This is for your personal machine? If so, then you should not take either and get Microsoft's Security Essentials. It is free and works better than both in regards to detection and system performance. It's what I use on my home computers and I could use Symantec Endpoint if i wanted to but why would you use it over something else.

And do not discount the need for an antivirus for Macs.

My apologies ZD, I did fail to mention this is for my home pc. And Thank You for all the information. It's been very helpful.

And yes, I am running a free version anti-virus program on my MAC.

  4. Thanks guys. Im not a big fan of either one. I've been using AVGFree for a while now. But it doesn't have a firewall that I'm aware of. And I'm looking for more real-tine protection for my one remaining pc. As I've gone to MAC for all my other machines.

I'm open to suggestions if there are better solutions out there.

    Thanks again

  5. Just wanted a chance to respond to this. Seeings how I haven't really banned anyone as of late. It seems a little strange to have to come here to respond to a complaint.

You were initially slapped and given a verbal warning about team attacking (myself whom you attacked) because it was the second time you blatantly team attacked. Next round you did it again, so I slayed and verbally warned again. Next round you do the same thing, so I slayed you again. Now I could understand if this was happening in a battle, but you did it right as we left spawn at start of round with nary an enemy in sight. The next step was going to be a 1 hour ban, but apparently you finally connected the dots and stopped team attacking.

Unfortunately, I've watched you play when I'm on and you have a pattern of team attacking like this. There are a couple others who do this also. And I think it's just a new group of players playing on our server testing their boundaries so to speak.

    That's all I have.

    Peace.

  6. Lunk, is that an extended clip? I was under the impression that the stock clips were 6+1, but 7+1 worked fine. What is that Wilson at?

Actually, the stock clips are 7+1. And that is one of Wilson Combat's Clips. It is also a 7+1. It just has an extended lip on it. Which I'm finding quite comfortable for my little finger to rest against. Went to the range yesterday and ran 150 rounds through it. That new Grip Safety makes it much more comfortable to shoot.

The first clip in this list is the one I ordered.

  7. Nice All Killer.

Here's a couple of shots with the Wilson Combat Drop in Grip Safety and Pachymar Wrap-Around Grips.

BTW Laz, I sent my NA in last Friday and got it back this past Thursday. Less than a week turn around time for the recall.

  8. Laz, check the colt website. There is a recall on several guns made after March 2007. My New Agent is one of them.

    Here's some of the info.

Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC has determined that the Slide Lock Safety and the Recoil Spring Guide Pad in certain Colt model pistols were not manufactured to Colt specifications and must be replaced. All of these Colt models were sold after March 2007 and the range of serial numbers affected by this product recall is as follows:

    1911 WWI Replica (O1911) From: 4597WMK To: 5414WMK

    1918 WWI Replica (O1918) From: 1001WWI To: 3431WWI

    New Agent (O7810D) From: GT01001 To: GT04505

    Combat Elite (O8011XSE) From: CG10000E To: CG11293E

    Defender (O7000D) From: DR33036 To: DR35948

Talo Night Defender (O7000NDF) From: NDF0001 To: NDF0400

    Colt Recall

  9. i was reading somewhere that the lcp's had alot of problems their first run of them. misfires and all kinda stuff, even had some recalls.

is that all taken care of now? or does anyone know.

That's all been taken care of. Only issue we ran into with it is: When you load the clips with ammo be sure and tap the clip against your hand to make sure all rounds have seated fully against the back of the clip. Otherwise you will have mis-feeds & jams. Because of the tight tolerances with the gun. Other than that it shoots really well for such a small gun. My 71 year old father-in-law shot the center out of the target from 7 yards with the thing.

    @ Laz,

I really like the Colt NA. My groupings are great all within a 2 inch area. I'm just down and left a bit from center on the target. Just need a little more practice. I wish the thing had the Glock trigger on it. My Glock 26 seems to be smoother and easier. Maybe once I fire a few more rounds thru the Colt it will get better. Only shot 150 rounds thru it so far. It is definitely a very nice carry piece.

  10. Nice ride man, a replacement or an addition to the stable?

Replacement, my wife wasn't to keen on me having 2 bikes atm. No room in the garage for 2. I need to get my workshop/secondary garage built for all my tools & toys. :smillie_smilling:

  11. screw you and your non snowing winters.

i'd be lying if i didn't say i go out to the garage and start the bike...just because. it's snowing here. still. again. :bang:

Have to admit, it was only 40 degrees here this morning on my ride to work. But it was 72 on the ride home. :D

We had a couple of days a few weeks ago where it was 30 degrees in the mornings, those were a tad cold riding to work.

  12. I'm looking to see if any of you have used any design software for the Mac. I want to create my own plans for a Shed/Workshop I'm building in the backyard. It will either be 16 x 16 or 16 x 20. But I would like to see it rendered in software first then be able to compile a list of materials off of that rendering. Is there anything out there other than an Auto Cad (read expensive) software?

  13. Finally got a Product key. Just needed to sign up for a Microsoft Live ID.

I'm not doing a dual boot atm. I did a fresh install on my old laptop and it seems to working pretty good. Other than the fact that my old laptop still has an issue with locking up, I'm thinking it may be heat related at this point.

The whole task bar is a bit different still trying to get that adjusted to my liking. I'm also going to try to download AVGFree and install it. I want to see what happens.

On another note: I purchased a Maxtor 1TB Central Axis Server yesterday. What a DUD, wouldn't work out of the box, setup kept failing, firmware update failed. What a POS. Now I've got to find another backup device, because my old NAS died. Guess I'll have to go with a USB or FireWire setup.
