  1. Last night was a little better than the first one. I still maintain that the only really interesting plot comes from Hiro's story line. Bored stiff with Claire and her flying boyfriend (get him an original ability for pete's sake.) Peter's was interesting and the way Mohinder and Claire's dad was able to get the Haitian into their plot was kind of interesting.

I guess I like Hiro because he actually uses his ability. Too much talking!

  2. congrats.... whatever you do... Do not think you can afford alot more now. Don't buy stuff you will pay on for years based on your current monthly income.

I went from 7 an hour 2.5 years ago to about $500 in taxes getting taken out of my current paychecks. It took me a 2 years to get out of "oh my, I can buy anything" phase and the debts it accrued, but im in the good now and its much better.

Yep. About 13 years ago I went from 9.00/hr to 25.00/hr. I immediately accrued debt and started living up to my income. Big mistake that I am still paying for even today. Sad thing is, that when I got that pay raise I calculated that if I put the extra income into my house I could pay it off in three years. Needless to say I didn't. In fact I probably owe a little bit more on it now than I did then.

  3. I watched the premiere. I guess one word says it all. Ambivalent.

I am still sore over the lame conclusion last year. They made us think something cool was going to happen but everything played out exactly according to script. (not their script but what you would expect to happen... well their script too)

I just don't know if I can get excited about the characters again. Hiro has the only interesting story line right now.

  4. I just looked the trick up and am now even MORE impressed! Most tricks seem like they revolve around 'duping' but this is pure skill. Reminds me of some coin tricks. I'm going to have to learn this trick now!

  5. I only know a couple. The one where you can flip only the card they picked over in a deck of cards. Then some uses of a 'tapered' deck. I find stuff like this fascinating!

  6. congratulations!

I have some advice for you. Enjoy them while they are little. By that don't always think that "It will be cool when they are/can/go". Enjoy them at whatever age/stage they are at. And I say this seriously... enjoy changing diapers.

    Secondly, take LOTS of pictures!

  7. if someone can make one that made music that'd be coool

That is doable. Make it on the principle of the the player piano with notches that trip a 'hammer' that hit a certain tone. There would be other ways too but that sounds simple and came to mind first.

  8. I came across this website. He has some very ingenious woodworking projects. I find them fascinating since I enjoy working with wood and I really enjoy clever stuff. At his site he has two 'marble machines'

    Marble Machine 1

This one is pretty neat. Runs on a motor. I really liked the xylophone part. There is a youtube video at the bottom of the page.

    Marble Machine 2

This one is awesome. Again, a youtube link at the bottom. I love the wooden gears. In fact, my son and I are going to try to make one using gears like that. I have some ideas that I think will make it easier to cut by using the same principle as a box joint jig. We already cut the circles out of 3/4" plywood now I have to make the jig.

On a side note. Check out his pipe organ (yes he made a pipe organ totally out of wood and from scratch) But you HAVE to check out his binary adding machine. Talk about ingenious!

Then I cam across This guy's website. Awesome stuff and if you like 20's jazz/blues even better. As far as his contraptions go you have to watch his

    WAY COOL! Don't miss the
. While not a 'wooden machine' it is pretty cool. But as far as 'marble machines' go...

    .

While the video is not very high quality the machine is still great!

  9. This is the town I lived in from the ages of 1 to 6. I find it interesting to see it on the news. I really don't have anybody there that I would know so it is kind of distant interest. I keep looking for the house I grew up in on the videos. I'm think it would be flooded but not sure. I rarely recognize anything when I watch them.

    The devastation looks pretty bad.
