  1. Ok first I want to explain that this accusation is pretty darn pathetic. How desperate some people must be to make these accusations just amazes me.

Second, I watched the video several times and both candidates pulled something out of their pockets. Why you ask?

Because the debate rules ( http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2004/deb04main/...teagreement.pdf ) on page 5 specifically allow the candidates to take notes during the debate. It is also cited in this CBS article ( http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/27/...ain645826.shtml ). I tried to find the Memorandum on the Commission of Presidential Debates website, but couldn't. Their website is located here ( http://www.debates.org/index.html ) if you would like to look.

I will however, admit that it definately looks like Bush has something attached to his back, but will not draw conclusions from their.

  2. Sorry I'm not around much, super busy, et all, but...

    Freakin finally.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2004-10...da-saddam_x.htm

Course my absolute favorite part was this...

On Monday, Rumsfeld answered a question about purported links in an appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York only after there were catcalls from the audience when he said he wouldn't respond.

Lost his temper, made big political mistake, gonna get his boss in trouble.

    Gawd I love it.

  3. I hate to say it, but I now firmly believe that a socialized healthcare is the only hope for healthcare in the US. I used to be firmly against it, but have lost faith in our private companies ability to balance profit with protection. New numbers were released like 2 weeks ago...was it 45M without healthcare of any kind? 15% of our population w/out health insurance and another 27% on government health care. yikes.

Wow, you weren't kidding about fluff.

  4. What's interesting Whiplash is that the debate that the media decides happened will not look a thing like the one we all watched. The two sides will tell tall tails back and forth as to what happened, until finally one sticks. And that side is the winner.

Exit polls show Kerry commandingly won the debate, but give the news media a few days, and we'll see where the cards fall.

  5. The fact that its the pledge does not bother me as much as the legislative branch specifically making laws that disavow the judicial branch on a subject.

I think this is a very nasty precedent. Now its the pledge, next time its abortion, the next time its guns, next time censorship, next time....

  6. NewsMax has been around for several years with their "reporting". They are a , realtively, popular site for some "right-leaing" people. While my original comment may be based in conjecture, the site would have been brought up on some type of copyright lawsuit if they were in violation after all these years.

I'm not sure, are all of their articles straigth ripoffs from a mainstream media with embelashment? I see you were referring to the site being around a while, not the article. I would request that you cut the attitude with your posts. I only asked you to explain what you meant, attitude was not required, and is unacceptable here.

In fact, after reviewing both articles, it is not a copyright infringement, nor even close. [

The site does not take credit for everything, the fully give credit back to where it was initially reported and then they add their own text to the rest of it.

One line saying "as reported by" does not satisfy copyright. I encourage you to read the laws regarding derivitive works, which is exactly what this is. After you read about it (I provided a link) if you still have questions I will happily answer. Even under fair use, which could not be applied because of this website's commercial nature, users are required to use small parts and clearly mark what is yours and what is theirs. But I regress, the blantant ripping off of the article is and adding embelashments does constitue copyright infringement.

I did check and both, MSNBC and NBC5i have emails for reporting copyright infringements, perhaps emailing them would help in your fight.

Its interesting you say that. MSNBC sources NBC5i as the copyright holder as an example of proper use of copyright (since they took their entire article from NBC).

I did send an email to NBC5i, though I'm not sure where the word "fight" comes in.

  7. Oops. Sorry Dweez. I was concentrating on ZD's posts and skipped yours. I will voluntarily delete my posts. (done)

I went ahead and created a new thread on the subject of how this article is a perfect example of why 'guerilla news' organizations are bad. ZD if you would like to continue, we can there.

    Here:

    http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...showtopic=13437

Btw, if this incident really happened, it is very sad indeed.

  8. Recently ZD posted this article:

    http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/9/23/103214.shtml

I've often stated in the past that fringe news organizations (both conservative and liberal) are exceptionally bad about distorting facts and not reliable sources.

Since the incident was so horrible, I was surprised that no other news organization had carried it. So I went looking for the source, and yeh verilly I found it.

    http://www.nbc5i.com/news/3719681/detail.html

What I find exceptionally interesting here are 3 elements:

    1. The blant ripping off of the original, copyrighted NBC work.

    2. The added elaboration and exageration of the reported incident.

    3. The flat out inaccuracies from the NewsMax story.

Listed below are some examples of the inaccuracies:

    1. Nobody talked to NBC, as reported by News "max", except the sister. The "allegation" (which I am not calling false...it just wasn't proven) was reported to via email.

    2. "family friends" did not complain.

    3. NewsMax reported that "at one point during the ceremony..." which was not reported by NBC. In fact NBC reported that the Peace Center believed that the family left before the ceremony.

    4. Drake's sister was not reported as saying "some of the crowd was blatantly hostile to those who had sacrificed their lives while serving their country".

    5. This " that might have included a few militants." was added to the end of a paraphrase of one of the director of the organizations statements.

    6. "last week" was incorrect. The rally was two weeks before the article was posted by NewsMax.

    Exagerations?

Adding words like "heckling" "several peaceniks began hurling verbal abuse". Reading the two articles, I'd almost say that NewsMax started directly with the CBS story and then added flair where they felt it was 'needed'.

    Copyright:

Much of the Newsmax article is directly lifted from the NBC article, making this a derived work. See the laws below:

    http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ14.html

I'd also sugguest reading up here:

    http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/

I'd almost call this a textbook example of why not to take articles by these type "organizations" at face value.

As it were, I started this thread because Dweez asked me too.

  9. Terrorist ties existed and that is a lie by Kerry.

When did Kerry say that ZD?

There were WMD found and it has been posted here.  The polish bought some off of the black market.  Our troops found some.  Maybe not massive stock piles, but still WMD have been found.
Not massive stockpiles? How bought not stockpiles and no evidence to support that they were Saddam's. There is a very large difference between the accusation of 300 tons of Anthrax (IIRC) and 2 vials.
  10. Thanks for the link yall. Found a bunch of interesting stuff.

That sight sparked a further question:

It looks like the AMD Semperon has comparable performance to the Intel 3.2G Pentium that I was contemplating (for half the price), and the AMD 64 (for $50 less) by far outperforms them.

Ne1 have any experience with the 64? I know that it supports 32B operations and apparently wails on Doom, but I'm seeking more knowledge before I purchase one.

    Thanks.

  11. ...I seek.

Ok, wassup yall. Now I know, yall are going to say "Whitie's a software engineer, he should know this stuff", well, as an overworked Software Engineer, I haven't had the time (and doubt I would if I could) to keep abreast on the latest and greatest in the hw world. Normally it isn't an issue because I'm not buying computer parts, but...

I'm going to build a new PC for HL2. In fact, the day it goes gold, I'm ordering my parts so that I'm prepared to pwn HL2. My 3 year old PC definately won't cut it. Now I've pretty much sketched out what I'm buying and my pricepoints on most items, except I'm having issues deciding on a Video Card.

My pricepoint is circa $300. Now for that I can either buy a low end nVidia 6800 (with 128M of RAM among other things) or a high end 9800 pro (with 256M of RAM and all the bells).

nVidia, obviously pushing their new hardware, says the 6800 is vastly supperior and therefore I should buy that, even on the low end.

What do yall think? Should I go for the pimped 9800pro, or should I purchase the 'value' 6800?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  12. We are not losing in Iraq.

How are we not losing Iraq? We have seen a steady decline of order and a steady increase in attacks over the last year and a half. Please provide some kind of evidence to support your position.

The problem is the belief that we and the Iraqi police can negotiate with these terrorists.

Not all the people who fight us in Iraq are terrorists. It is a big mistake to pretend that they are.

We need to stop being hopeful for a non military solution, it is too late for that.  We need to get in there and drive them out of Iraq and kill as many as we can.  Keeping them will make Iraq unstable for as long as they have any strong holds there.  They will continue to try and undermine a democracy there.

The people we are fighting in Iraq are not all foreign terrorists that can be driven out. The vast majority of them are the same Iraq people that we are "freeing".

Either way, how do you propose "driving them out"? How do you find them? How do you kill them without killing more civilians, which in turn creates more people fighting us?

I'm sorry, but simple "we need to be tough" solutions won't work in Iraq. We are fighting a guerilla war in Iraq...very similar to Vietnam.

The Iraqi people also need to all rise up and force them out.

They are...they are rising up and they want us out. They do not trust us or our puppet government led by a former Bathist. We had our shot, we turned out to be no different than we were every other time we've fiddled in their country, now they want us out.

  13. Uhhmmm Gond, no offense bro, but you are a bit uninformed. Right now, there only exists order in the Northern part of Iraq ( http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/21/opinion/21krugman.html ) which is exactly why the NIE provided to Bush in July was very lacking in optimism ( http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/09/17/us.iraq.intel/index.html ) which is exactly why insurgents are chilling within mortar range of the US Embassy in Iraq ( http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/...-699341,00.html )

The situation from Iraq is far from under control...in fact we are losing.

  14. No soul you are overgeneralizing.

He said in Aug that he would still have voted to give Pres Bush the authority. He did NOT vote to invade Iraq.

This incident of soundbiting also removes what Kerry said after that, which was he felt that it was an important tool in the President's belt to get the Inspectors into Iraq and keep Saddam from messing with them.

As I said before, not a flip flop
