  1. True. But, if it gets to a point where one team has been destroyed and is unable to rebuild or mount any kind of resistance to the other team it will start to get pointless.

  2. Wooooo!

    I'm all for it.

I like teams to be either randomly generated or have two team captains who could then pick teams. Also, I think there should be a few days at least where we have a cease fire in effect. Obviously, people who play the most will have the clear advantage so in order to give each team a good start is to give us some time to let each team to get a decent start. I think having a 4 day cease fire starting on a saturday. Also should start on a server wipe which would hopefully be on a saturday. I don't know what the update schedule is but I think the admins have control over server wipes if needed.

My second thought is what conditions would need to be met to declare a winning team? Destroy enemy team base? Kill all enemy team players a set number of times? This will need some extra thought and planning.

The other thing I can foresee a problem is with neutral players being caught in the cross fire. If there was a way to put a motd on the server when you join to warn others of our little war would help. Also, I know each team will probably be killing neutrals on site since we can't determine who is who until they are close enough for the name to appear. The cross fire and mistaken identity may drive people away from the server which we don't want.

It will be tricky, but I think this will be really fun for all the GC members who which to join in.

  3. I've watched Ebil play this on her twitch stream. Cooperation is key. If you can get even a small group of people together right from the beginning you have a huge advantage over the other players. I think the most unique thing about this game is the crafting, otherwise it's just a huge rush for materials and surviving the animals and other players. The actual "world" will be giant once it goes to official release. The alpha map is still pretty large though.

Making your "base" takes some forethought and you need to plan ahead to survive later in the game. People can actually rob and kill you when you're logged out so if you're not careful you can go to sleep and wake up the next day with all of your stuff gone.

Still, it's interesting. I've watched Ebil a couple of times and still find it intriguing. If GC had a server and got enough outside players to make it interesting I'd throw down and join.

  4. I've read great things about the new Kavari APU's that AMD just put out, but they are a lot more expensive than the APU you have in your build. Still, for a HTPC it seems pretty solid.

Yeah, the SSD would only improve load times and you'd store all of your media on a standard HHD anyways so you're pretty set.

Are you just wanting to store and stream media or do you want to do game streaming to your tv as well?

  5. Somehow I feel like I've posted this before...

Anyways. Way back in 1998 when I got my 3rd or 4th PC. One that could actually connect to the internet I signed up for my first email service (Juno!). I didn't want to use my name and the game I was disgustingly into at the time was Final Fantasy 7. So, my first email was Limitbreaks. I used this for email and chat. I was a frequent user in Game Room: 1 on Yahoo chat and all the other regulars started calling me Limit. I used this later when we started using Cheetachat and I made my next name, Automatic_for_the_Limit. Combining my favorite R.E.M. album and my already established name of Limit. It's been shortened to AutomaticLimit in recent years but everyone still recognizes me as Limit.

Actually, I've named my upcoming freelance graphic design business AutomaticLimit as well.

  6. I've played on the Dallas server several times now and I can say that its a lot better experience for me and my older computer. Still need to tweak some rates. I'm enjoying it. Like to see more people join.

I do have one problem. Every time the server changes the map my game crashes. I've looked up the error and found a few forums say it my be due to some display or resolution problem. I've tweaked my display properties according to the info I've found but still crashes. I'll double-check my drivers to make sure there's no problem there.

  7. Interesting. I'll give it a try. However, I did recently update the driver for the Realtek Gigabit lan. It was actually in October they has the latest driver update. I was only getting 100 Mbps with the old router because thats all it was capable of. Got the new router in November. Still, it's worth a try.

Also, I had a thought. Would the port on the modem cause the entire network to 100 Mbps? I have an older cable modem that was provided by my ISP and they no longer use them. I've tried looking up the model online but the manufacture doesn't actually list it's port speed. It's possible that its only a 10/100 base T. However, that doesn't explain why I have been getting 1 Gbps before.

I've received a email from Netgear stating they need more time to look into the matter and will contact me soon.

  8. True. I go AMD mainly for the price/performace. Nothing against Intel or Nvidia, but I'm.... frugal and the most bang I can get for the buck the better. By the time I get around to finishing my next build AMD will probably have the next socket out for probably not that much more than I'm going to be paying for this hardware.

Asus is awesome, but I'm going to stick with MSI for this build due to the fantastic quality of my last MSI board. What else are you putting in your next build Wolf?

  9. Guess that would be helpful.

    It is a Netgear WNDR3400v3

Running on an onboard Realtek PCIe Gigabit lan.

Running all cat5e cable from the cable modem, to router to my pc. Everything else is running on the wireless which has been superb thus far. Running two iPhones, two laptops, an iPad, and media streamer using Netflix. I loaded video on all the devices simultaneously and nobody had any lag or dropped frame rates.

I think I have another Pcie nic card I could through in there to see if its the Realtek, but that requires work. I may have time to do that tomorrow if I don't hear back from Netgear.

  10. Update:

I wired the router to my Macbook Pro and its only giving me 100 Mbps there as well. I tried to force it to 1Gbps and it just shuts the connection down. There may be something wrong with the router. I've contacted support about the problem so hopefully they'll replace it if there is something wrong with it.

  11. I've restarted the router from the browser. I just unplugged it and I'm still getting the 100 Mbps.

The QoS has a selector that you can set the priority to a port, application, service, etc. I selected port 1 which is the only port that is occupied. Everything else is running on the wireless and is set to a lower priority.

  12. Yo,

So, about a month ago I got a new router. I set it up and everything was running as it should be. Getting the 1Gbps over wired that I was suppose to. I only set up the QoS to set my port the highest priority, I set up the wireless security and everything is running fine. Today I noticed my connection is only giving me 100 Mbps. Double-checked everything and nothing in the settings has changed. Drivers are up-to-date and I can force the driver to give me the 1 Gbps full duplex but its still not registering it in my network connections. I checked the manufactures faq and no real help there. Any ideas?

  13. I'm still looking at the MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2 with the FX 8350 processor for my next build.

The FX 95** are good, but they run really hot so if you want to overclock then you'll need to liquid cool them.

AMD are really pushing their APU processors and there is nothing on the road map on the next gen FX processors, but I think they just haven't announced anything yet.

As for video cards I'm looking at the R9 280X, which are just rebranded 7970 Gigahertz editions. If you're not looking at running games at 4K then I would stick to a 270 or 280.

    S.

  14. Yeah, go for a SSD for your boot/os drive.

Also, I would wait for the non-reference 290 cards. The 290's run very hot even though AMD says that is fine. You can mess with custom cooling, but I'd wait to see what the oem's come up with before shelling out extra cash for gpu cooling. Sure, you can clock the card down to operate at a temp you want, but why not get max performance AND cooler core temps without the hassle?! The 280X are out of reference now and are performing very well for the price point. Could always crossfire them down the road too.

  15. Holy dust balls, Fenix. Clean that case out! Mine is pretty bad also so I shouldn't be talking. :P

I'm going with the Haf xB case. Really digging the test bench design. Going with the top windowed version and get it powder coated. Plenty of room on the front for the H100i and going to do it in a pull configuration. Right now I'm just going with a cpu cooler and maybe a custom loop in the future. The Haf xB has a decent amount of room, but I've seen a few custom loops done in them with very little tubing and plenty of room at the bottom for more radiators and larger pumps.

  16. Yo,

So, with my next build I'm going to dive into the world of liquid cooling. I'm most likely going to play it safe with a Corsair H100i for my first attempt, but I want to get some tips from anyone here who have built their own or have any experience. A quick Google search lists a lot of forums and sites and I've bookmarked a few for future reading but if anyone has a trusted source or guild that they would recommend I would appreciate it.
